I’ve always been intrigued by Name Days (you can read more about them here, and find your name and/or birthday!) so I was wondering:
Does your name have a name day? If so, when is it?
If you could rename yourself with a name that has a name day on your birthday, what would you rename yourself? For instance, my birthday is on the 5th May and I would rename myself Irina Judith
apparently my name has 4 name days, none remotely close to my actual birthday
the listed options for my birthday are a general consensus of variants of about 3 or so names, so i’ll only have first names: should i rename myself, i would be either astra or bernard.
[name_f]My[/name_f] name (Felicity) doesn’t have a name day but international variations of it does and they’re my actual birthday or the day after!
Mine is [name_u]August[/name_u] 11. (I had looked that up before several times and just needed to double-check). We didn’t really observe them when I was a child, but knew families who did. [name_f]My[/name_f] brother got little name day presents a few times by his godparents and I was obviously super jealous because I didn’t. That’s why I looked mine up for the first time, but I forgot about it soon. It’s too close to my birthday to do both and the story behind it isn’t exactly uplifting anyway.
No, my parents had the name picked out before I was born and they would have had no idea what “name days” even were! Total coincidence! Aww thank you
[name_f]My[/name_f] name is a saint’s name so it does have a name day but interestingly it’s celebrated on very different dates in different countries.
But my culture doesn’t really do name days (which I think is a shame because it’s a fun concept and who doesn’t love presents!). For fun, I’d rename myself [name_f]Almina[/name_f] Leini (the two names from my birthday list that intrigued me the most).
[name_f]My[/name_f] parents definitely weren’t thinking about this when they named me and [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] doesn’t seem to have a directly correlated name day so I was really surprised to find out that [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] correlates with my birthday! It’s really wild that I was accidentally sort of named correctly for my day.
Yessss, my name has a name day. Three in fact, but the closest to my actual birthday is the 4th of [name_u]July[/name_u]
I would rename myself to [name_f]Marina[/name_f]. I can’t choose a middle because I don’t like many of the names, and the ones I DO like, are too matchy with [name_f]Marina[/name_f]. (Rowena, Ilina)
[name_u]Awesome[/name_u] post though, I never knew about name days!!!
[name_f]My[/name_f] name does not have a name day. How sad. Funnily enough, there is a similar name to my name on my birthday though! So maybe close enough?
Basically 3 options for girls names on my bday, so I think I would go with [name_f]Stela[/name_f] but change the spelling to [name_f]Stella[/name_f].
There are also quite a noticeable amount of [name_f]Violet[/name_f] variants that have my birthday as their name day. A cool thing to notice, as [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is my sister’s name.
i couldn’t find a day for my real name, but i did find that my birthday, may twentieth had a load of lily names! i have a lily tattoo, so i’m pretty excited about that!
I’m from a country that celebrates name days so yes, both my first and middle have Finnish name days! It was also important to me to give my son at least one name with a Finnish name day (he ended up with two) - name days are a big deal to my family and it’d be sad to not have one to celebrate. They’re kinda like mini birthdays to us.
I’m not comfortable with sharing my birthday but if I picked a new first and a new middle name based on my Finnish name days (so picking something from a different country’s calendar but the same day as my name days), I’d go with [name_f]Agata[/name_f] [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]!
My first name (nor any of its variations) doesn’t have a name day, but my middle name ([name_f]Rose[/name]) has two name days, both of which are within about three weeks before my actual birthday!!
If I renamed myself using my birthday name days, I’d name myself [name_f]Zsófia[/name] [name_f]Aili[/name]
