Okay so I am in [name]LOVE[/name] with the name [name]Felix[/name] and it has become one of my favorite names of all time. However our last name is [name]German[/name] and starts with Sch. I’m afraid that [name]Felix[/name] will clash with it and be too hard to say fn and ln together. What do you guys think and would you use it anyway?
[name]Mischa[/name] I’m going to assume your last name is Schwartz (for simplicity sake).
In [name]German[/name] [name]Felix[/name] Schwartz sounds absolutely fine and without any odd complications. I can see how in English it’s a bit more trouble-some but I think that the -x and Sch- sounds are distinctive enough that (at least in my accent) it’s hard to make them blend in unfortunate ways.
I also [name]LOVE[/name], [name]LOVE[/name], [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Felix[/name] and wish it weren’t becoming so popular in the US. It’s almost breaking my heart. It’s the only name that’s really stuck with me since I was 8.
[name]Felix[/name] Sch… mightn’t be the easiest name to say, but if you [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Felix[/name], I wouldn’t let that stop you from using it! It’s a great name.
I think it will be fine. I you love [name]Felix[/name], go for it. And [name]Felix[/name] is a strong clear name that has to be spoken to its last syllable anyway, so folks aren’t really likely to slur it together with your last name.
[name]Felix[/name] has been popular in Germany for about 25 years now (#10 in 2012) and many [name]German[/name] Family names start in Sch (so does mine), so it really doesn’t sound weird to me. [name]Felix[/name] is a lovely choice!
What if you pronounced it/spelled it Felik? It’s kinda weird, but it would help keep them separate. If that doesn’t appeal to you (it doesn’t really appeal to me, haha), then just use it. It’s an awesome name.
I don’t think it’s awkward enough to discount using it! [name]Felix[/name] Schwartz, [name]Felix[/name] Schwab, [name]Felix[/name] Schultz, [name]Felix[/name] Schooner, all sound fine to me! It’s a little heavy in the S sound, but it’s not something most people would trip over when trying to say.
I think [name]Felix[/name] would be fine with a [name]German[/name] “Sch” name. Since [name]Felix[/name] has been popular in [name]German[/name]-speaking countries for awhile now, I’m sure there are other men with similar fn and ln combos.
