Name dilemma

right now i love a few names that i feel a lot of people wouldn’t lol. if i really love them, i’ll use them and won’t care what others have to say. although, i want to make sure these names would still be usuable and not seen as “bad.” can you berries rate or give comments on the names below and maybe middle name suggestions too? tysm!

girls: honey, goldie/marigold, charli/charlie, sunny, bee/bea, lois
boys: crue/cru, sol, renly (wren-lee), reu (roo)
either: murphy, banks

I think that for the most part your names are all useable (whether or not they’re all my taste is a completely different and honestly sort of irrelevant question).

Goldie/Marigold, Charli/Charlie, [name_u]Sunny[/name_u], Bee/Bea, and [name_f]Lois[/name_f] are all names with a solid history of use, no issue there. [name_u]Murphy[/name_u] and [name_u]Banks[/name_u] are definitely not unheard of, they’re enjoying a bit of extra popularity lately due to the trend for surname names. [name_u]Sol[/name_u], [name_m]Renly[/name_m], and Reu are all useable, especially [name_u]Sol[/name_u] and [name_m]Renly[/name_m] which are modern but definitely not unheard of. Crue/Cru looks a little off to me, I think it would be better to spell the name as [name_m]Crew[/name_m], but like I said that’s personal taste and not really any of my business.

Personally, [name_f]Honey[/name_f] is the only one I would suggest you reserve as a middle name, since while it does have a history of use, it’s a tad juvenile and I can just imagine some types of people being a little gross about the fact that it’s a pet name that’s pretty commonly used now towards women. [name_f]Lois[/name_f] [name_f]Honey[/name_f] would be stunning though!

Overall though, there’s nothing ridiculously outrageous on your list, you seem to have a trendy/modern thing going (especially for your boys), with a bit of a cottagecore edge with your girls.

i think they’re all usable! some notes though
honey - i would only do this as a middle, or as a nickname (maybe to anna/annie, honor, hannah or any an- name really)
crue/cru - something about the spelling of this feels off to me? like someone misspelt crew. is there a chance you’d like cruz?
reu - a valid spelling, but i personally prefer the rue spelling myself, it feels more complete on its own than reu does

i love goldie, sunny, bee, lois and sol!

girls:
I love them and think they are so cute and mostly very usable.
[name_u]Love[/name_u]: goldie/marigold, sunny, bee/bea
Like: honey, lois, charli/charlie

boys:
I think they are all usable. I haven’t ever heard of renly but i love it!
[name_u]Love[/name_u]: renly, reu
Like: crue/cru, sol
I love rue as a stand-alone name but i think it could also be used as a cute nn for rueben or rupert.

either:
they are such cool names and think would be perfect for a boy or girl (although i see murphy more for a boy)

Overall I think they are very nice names and could use especially as now there are so many unique names becoming popular.

I wouldn’t recommend [name_f]Honey[/name_f] because it seems unsuited to use a term of endearment as a name. All your other names are fine in my opinion.

Apart from [name_f]Honey[/name_f], [name_m]Crue[/name_m] and Reu I don’t see any problems with the names.

[name_f]Honey[/name_f] I would truly reconsider as a first name; nameberry is a bit of a bubble on names like these, the internet in general is. To me, it’s no different than naming your kid sweetheart and can therefore lead to very awkward situations, not just being called [name_f]Honey[/name_f] by people that you definitely wouldn’t want to call you a term of endearment but also with other people overhearing somebody calling you [name_f]Honey[/name_f] and assuming things that just aren’t true. To that you may say, why should it bother my daughter what other people think, but I think there are people you wouldn’t want to be associated with “honey-wise” and that makes you feel the constant need to explain your relationships to other people.
Basically similar to how at a certain age, as a young woman, you might say “Dad” a lot more than usual when out alone with your father just so people won’t assume that you’re a couple.

For a [name_f]Honey[/name_f] that would be the case a lot more often though and with almost everyone.

[name_m]Crue[/name_m] - with that spelling makes me think of cruel, that was what I read initially anyway.

Reu - just feels like a misspelled [name_u]Rue[/name_u] to me.

My thoughts (and of course these are all my opinions so it’s completely subjective, haha!)

Honey - 5/10. I think Honey is super sweet and I love it especially as a middle, where I’d give it 7/10. Might be a little tough to use in the professional sphere, which is why I rate it lower, but you can always use Honey as a nickname for absolutely any name (I especially love Bea nn Honey - I mean, how creative is that!) Combos: Juniper Honey, Mirren Honey, Lula Honey
Goldie - 6/10. Super sweet and growing in popularity, but I prefer it as a nickname for Marigold. Combos: Goldie Faye, Goldie Lou, Goldie Farrah
Marigold - 10/10. On my list and one of my favourites. I like Maggie, Maisie, and Goldie as nicknames. Combos: Marigold Laine, Marigold Arya, Marigold Niamh
Charlie - 7/10. Super cute on a girl and super fun. I like it best as a nickname for Charlotte, along with darling Lottie. Combos: Charlie Nuala, Charlie Liora, Charlie Bluebell
Charli - 4/10. I prefer the previous spelling and I am honestly reminded of the Starbucks cold brew, haha! Combos: Charli Nell, Charli Leonora, Charli Skye
Sunny - 8/10. As a first, I have to give it 6/10 because it runs into the same issues Honey does with sounding formal or professional. I adore Sunny, however, and I love it as a middle or even a nickname. Combos: Evelyn Sunny, Leola Sunny, Quinn Sunny
Bee - 5/10. It’s cute but once again I struggle to see it professionally or on an adult. Combos: Petra Bee, Marisol Bee, Luna Bee
Bea - 7/10. Absolutely adorable and usable, and seems much more grown-up than Bee. Combos: Bea Lavender, Bea Bellanore, Bea Tatiana
Lois - 7/10. This name feels so clunky to me I’d never considered it, but looking at it with fresh eyes I think it could actually be an adorable vintage choice. Now I kind of want to see it used for a little one! Combos: Lois Esme, Lois Elle, Lois Olive

Crue - 5/10. I don’t love this spelling of the name. Crew is my personal favourite. However, I really like the sound. Combos: Nolan Crue, Sterling Crue, Hartwin Crue
Cru - 6/10. I prefer this to Crue, it seems more simple and energetic. Again, I really love Crew! Combos: Cru Thaddeus, Cru Glacier, Cru Leighton
Sol - 8/10. My goodness, I wish Sol saw more use! It is simple and stunning and has a gorgeous meaning. This is my favourite on your boys’ list. Combos: Sol Evander, Sol Inigo, Sol Acre
Renly - 7/10. I discovered Renly for girls a while ago and loved it. This is the first I’ve heard it for a boy but I think it works incredibly for either (especially since it’s not too popular.) I like the nn Ren. Combos: Renly Viorel, Renly Ferdinand, Renly Atticus
Reu - 5/10. I think this one would be a bit confusing as I’d think “ray-oo?” I’d suggest Roux or Roo as an alternative, or perhaps Ruan / Reuan / Rune nn Ru/Reu. It would make a great middle because it’s short and simple. Combos: Monty Reu, Murphy Reu, Miles Reu

Murphy - 7/10 boys, 3/10 girls. I love it on a boy, it sounds cute and vintage, but I just can’t picture it on a girl. Combos: Murphy John, Murphy Caldera, Murphy Sacha / Everly Murphy, Willa Murphy, Oak Murphy
Banks - 7/10 boys, 4/10 girls. Once again I love it on a boy. Not so sure about it for a girl - I think it could work as a middle, otherwise I’d suggest Banksia or even Banksy, with the nn Banks. Combos: Banks Watson, Banks Nicholas, Banks Drumlin / Aria Banks, Maeva Banks, Livia Banks

lovely list!!

[name_f]Honey[/name_f] - I’ve been in love with this name since I was very young, and first saw the movie [name_f]Honey[/name_f]! If you haven’t seen it, [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] [name_u]Alba[/name_u] plays a woman named [name_f]Honey[/name_f], and I just thought it was so cool and pretty. Although that’s my first association with it being used as a first name, my strongest association is Miss [name_f]Honey[/name_f] from [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], and I just love that so much. It makes the name feel very sweet, kind, and loving to me. I’m aware that it’s more of a gp though, and maybe not best suited as a first name. While I think it could work, I wouldn’t want to put any possible difficulties on a child, so I think I’d keep it as a middle. I think it could make a sweet nickname too! For any name really, as it’s most commonly used as a term of endearment!

Marigold/Goldie - [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is another one of my favorites. It’s my favorite flower, associated with a holiday very dear to my heart, and I have a few personal associations with it. Because of that, it’s one of my greatest loves. It makes me happy every time I see it :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I definitely think it could work as a first, it fits in nicely with the currently popular trends of nature/flower/colorful names. [name_f]My[/name_f] personal favorite nickname for it is Maggie!! I think [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] obviously works perfectly as a nickname for it, but I also think [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] would make a cute first name! Very sweet, warm, and honey filled.

Charli/Charlie - love [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] so much! I’m not a fan of the [name_f]Charli[/name_f] spelling, it feels a bit incomplete and a tad too trendy for me. I think [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] is the sweetest though. I think it works as a first name, or as a nickname, I personally love it with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. However, nickname names are very in, and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] would fit in perfectly.

[name_u]Sunny[/name_u] - so sweet and warm! I’d love to meet a little [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]. I do think it leans slightly masculine to me as a full first name, because I think of [name_u]Sonny[/name_u]. I think [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f], [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], or [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] would make sweet full names for nn [name_u]Sunny[/name_u], too! It also reminds me of [name_f]Sunflower[/name_f], [name_u]Sunrise[/name_u], [name_u]Sunset[/name_u], and [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f] - all of which I love as middles!! This is also another one I think could work as a nickname for any name!

Bee/Bea - super cute! I personally prefer the [name_f]Bee[/name_f] spelling, because I’ve seen [name_f]Bea[/name_f] is often pronounced as bee-uh or bay-uh, and the [name_f]Bee[/name_f] spelling removes that issue. I also love the association with bees - so sweet! I think I personally prefer it as a nickname (Ruby, [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], & [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] are my favorites), but I’d absolutely swoon if I met a little Bee!!

[name_f]Lois[/name_f] - not my personal favorite. It still feels a bit too old to me, but I love a lot of names that other people feel that way about, so I still do think it could work! I think maybe a more current sounding middle could balance it nicely. I like the [name_f]Lois[/name_f] [name_u]Lane[/name_u] association, but I do also think of [name_f]Lois[/name_f] [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] too, which maybe isn’t the best!

Crue/Cru - this one isnt my personal style, but I still find it very cute. I think I prefer the [name_m]Crew[/name_m] spelling, as it feels slightly more complete. [name_m]Crue[/name_m] isn’t bad either though, it reminds me of Motley [name_m]Crue[/name_m]! This name does feel more trendy compared to some of your other names!

[name_u]Sol[/name_u] - so, so adorable! I think this is such a cute name. It also feels the type of name that can suit any age, I can absolutely imagine a grown man named [name_u]Sol[/name_u] (perhaps because of its similarity to [name_m]Saul[/name_m] and Sal)!!

[name_m]Renly[/name_m] - this name has such a special place in my heart :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: it’s 100% boy to me, because it makes me think of [name_m]Renly[/name_m] Baratheon from Game of Thrones (which is a lovely association in my opinion)!! It makes me happy to see someone else love it, especially for a boy. It’s on my gp list, but that’s only a personal preference as it feels a tad too trendy for my style. I loooove nn [name_u]Ren[/name_u] too, as [name_u]Wren[/name_u] is one of my top boy names!!

Reu - I’m personally not a fan of this spelling, but I love [name_u]Rue[/name_u] a whole lot! I completely understand this spelling comes from [name_m]Reuben[/name_m], and it does make sense, but it feels incomplete as a full first name compared to the [name_u]Rue[/name_u] spelling. I think Roo would be very cute, too!! this name is so gentle and sweet, I really love it for a boy. There’s also similar sounding/long forms [name_u]Rooney[/name_u], [name_u]Rudy[/name_u], [name_u]Rune[/name_u], [name_m]Rufus[/name_m], [name_m]Rupert[/name_m], and my personal favorite [tied with [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] though]: Rufio! I think it works as a full first name too though!

[name_u]Murphy[/name_u] - one of my favorite boy names! I personally don’t like it on a girl, but thats because I associate it with a male character I love dearly, and therefore feels 100% masculine to me. I love the meaning and soft sound of it, too! I think it’s such a handsome name. I suppose it can work on any gender, but I do strongly prefer it for a boy!

[name_u]Banks[/name_u] - I’m not a fan, I’m sorry. It feels very trendy to me, and it reminds me too much of, well, just banks. It also feels very strongly like a last name to me. It can technically work as a first though, as it does remind me of [name_u]Hilary[/name_u] Duff’s daughter! I personally wouldn’t go with [name_f]Banksy[/name_f] (I’d still with just Banks), because I think a lot of people would assume you named them after the artist!

I love [name_f]Honey[/name_f], [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_f]Bea[/name_f] & [name_f]Lois[/name_f] for girls, and [name_u]Sol[/name_u] & [name_u]Murphy[/name_u] for boys! :sparkles:

(sorry but a lot of this will be negative, just my honest thoughts)
Names that are just nms: Goldie/Marigold, [name_u]Sunny[/name_u], [name_f]Bee[/name_f]
[name_f]Honey[/name_f]: um, a bit too celebri-baby
Charli/Charlie: this is actually starting to grow on me, but I immediately associate [name_f]Charli[/name_f] with [name_f]Charli[/name_f] D’Amelio so make that what you may
[name_f]Bea[/name_f]: I pronounce this bay-a, and I actually think this is a [name_u]Berry[/name_u] fave-but I like it too
[name_f]Lois[/name_f]: This is also growing on me
Crue/Cru: OMG THIS NAME IS SOOO COOL
[name_u]Sol[/name_u]: I actually really love [name_u]Sol[/name_u] on a girl! I think boy is ok too
[name_m]Renly[/name_m]: ok ig
Reu: so short form of [name_m]Reuben[/name_m]? [name_f]Pretty[/name_f] cool
[name_u]Murphy[/name_u]: again ok, I’ve been seeing [name_u]Murphy[/name_u] a ton on NB lately
[name_u]Banks[/name_u]: [name_u]Banks[/name_u] is another super cool name, just haven’t seen it on non-celebrity babies yet but I think it can totally work

If there’s a name you love, go for it. I don’t think any of these are unheard of. Some are more common as nicknames and I prefer the longer form as the given name (ie [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] instead of Reu) but that’s definitely just a personal opinion.

Here are some honest thoughts:
In general, you’ll make your kid’s life easier if you use the most common spelling of a name (though I feel honor names or culturally significant spellings are worth the inconvenience). I’d pick [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] over [name_f]Charli[/name_f], [name_m]Crew[/name_m] over [name_m]Cru[/name_m] or [name_m]Crue[/name_m] (also, Cru/Crue look a lot like Cruel or Crude to me).

I hadn’t considered the [name_f]Bee[/name_f] spelling before but I kind of love it, especially as a middle. Maybe [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] [name_f]Bee[/name_f]? I also really like [name_f]Bea[/name_f]- I used to know a little [name_f]Bea[/name_f], she was adorable. You might get some confusion on how to pronounce it - bee or bee-ah.

Like others have said, [name_f]Honey[/name_f] might be best in the middle spot. It’d be cute on a little kid but it’d be uncomfortable as an adult.

I agree with others that Honey could definitely be problematic as a first name. I would also avoid Renly and Reu because they will probably be misspelled/mispronounced often. The others are perfect, though!

[name_f]Honey[/name_f], [name_u]Sunny[/name_u], and [name_u]Sol[/name_u] feel too “out there” for me personally. I wouldn’t necessarily use the other names, but I could see people not questioning them or making fun of them.

I like both [name_u]Murphy[/name_u] and [name_u]Banks[/name_u] a lot! Especially for a girl.

[name_u]Murphy[/name_u] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_u]Murphy[/name_u] [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]
[name_u]Murphy[/name_u] [name_m]Crew[/name_m]
[name_u]Murphy[/name_u] [name_u]Rue[/name_u]

[name_u]Banks[/name_u] [name_f]Bea[/name_f]
[name_u]Banks[/name_u] [name_f]Lois[/name_f]
[name_u]Banks[/name_u] [name_f]Wrenley[/name_f]
[name_u]Banks[/name_u] [name_u]Murphy[/name_u]

I think these are all useable! I actually have a little cousin named [name_f]Bea[/name_f] and as far as I know nobody has had anything negative to say, we all thought it was adorable. I think [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] works 100% too bc it’s used as a nn for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and there are some celebrities with that name. I think some people might see [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] or [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] as being “cutesy” but I don’t think that’s really a bad thing? [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] nn [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] might get a slightly better response though but I think either way is adorable! I think all the boys options are totally useable. The only one I have a comment on is some people might stumble on the pronunciation of Reu, Idk if that would bother you or not but it is easy enough so I think even if you had to correct people they would get it after that if that makes sense (:
