Name Dilemma's

[name]Hi[/name] I have been a long time lurker, scouring forum’s for potential names but never posted. But now we are having such trouble naming our baby girl that I need some advice. This is baby # 4 for us and our last so I’ll never be able to name another child again so I really want her to have a name that I love.

First problem is that hubby and I don’t agree on names. At all. We had so much trouble naming our other 3. Our tastes differ completely. Hubby is very into trendy and popular names. But even then he is picky, he doesn’t like anything that sounds too weird, he’s not really into classic because he says they are old and boring. I don’t hate trendy names, and our kids have all ended up with popular names because it’s all I could get hubby to agree too but they aren’t really my first choice and if they have to be trendy, I like them to be slightly unusual. Anyway we have a shortlist but none of them feel completely right to me. Our other children are [name]Riley[/name], [name]Jackson[/name] and [name]Piper[/name].

[name]Addison[/name] - this is hubby’s favourite, I don’t hate it and it’s probably my favourite of his choices but a mother within our social circle has a daughter with this name and it feels a little weird to me to use it. Also not sure if I really like the idea of two “sons” in the same family.
[name]Alexis[/name] - another of hubby’s favourites. I don’t love or hate this name, not sure I can see my daughter named it though.
[name]Isabelle[/name] - another hubby favourite. I know [name]Isabelle[/name] is a pretty name but I am not overly fussed on it. Never have been. I suggested [name]Annabel[/name] which I actually prefer but hubby didn’t really like it.
[name]Imogen[/name] - I really like [name]Imogen[/name] and hubby kind of likes it but it is super popular here in Australia… top 50 and I already know 2 other little [name]Imogen[/name]'s.
[name]Indigo[/name] - Hubby does not like [name]Indigo[/name] but he adores [name]Indi[/name]. If we went that way I would prefer to have a whole name. He likes [name]Indianna[/name] even less and I went to school with an [name]India[/name].
[name]Samara[/name] - I like this one because it is not trendy like the others and I love the nickname [name]Sami[/name] after a very good friend I had that I adored. But I’m not sure I’m 100% in love with [name]Samara[/name] and I’ve never been a fan of [name]Samantha[/name], it feels a bit clunky to me.

Hubby’s all time favourite name is [name]Mackenzie[/name] but I am not a fan. There is a good chance that here in Australia her name could be shortened to [name]Mac[/name] or Macca and that just makes me shudder. [name]Don[/name]'t particularly like [name]Kenzie[/name] either. Names I really liked but hubby rejected include, [name]Amelie[/name], [name]Evelyn[/name], [name]Everly[/name], [name]Harriet[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Hannah[/name], [name]Vivienne[/name].

I really like [name]Arden[/name] and [name]Eden[/name] as well but they don’t flow with our surname which ends in -dron.

So just wondering if anyone else has any other suggestions and/or opinions on our short list. Middle name help would also be appreciated. Hubby wants to use [name]Kate[/name] as a mn which is nice and flows well with most names but it is my middle name and his sister’s name. None of our other children have family middle names so I think that its a bit weird if she does. I wanted the name [name]Caroline[/name] for a middle name in honour of a family friend but it doesn’t really flow well with any of the names we have on our short list and makes it all a bit of mouthful.

Sorry for the novel but thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

I feel for you! It sounds like your wishes have been nudged to the side a bit :frowning:

My first thought was [name]Linden[/name]: trendy sound to please the husband, maybe. Plus the nickname [name]Indi[/name]. But it sounds like it doesn’t go so well with your last name. Other [name]Indi[/name] names might be too fussy next to your other children’s names (like [name]Lucinda[/name] or [name]Rosalind[/name])

I am in the U.S. so I am not sure how these names come across, but I think they fit well with your other three and are not too weird, but not at the top of the trends:
[name]Ava[/name]-ok this one is pretty popular
[name]Halle[/name]
[name]Hailey[/name]
[name]Calla[/name]
[name]Mira[/name]
[name]Maren[/name]
[name]Delaney[/name]

I actually think [name]Hannah[/name] is the best fit from your rejected list. I gotta say, I am not crazy about his choices! I hope some other berries can jump in and help you  Good luck!

Not sure you’ll like any of these suggestions, but here goes.

[name]Addison[/name] – since you’re worried about your friend/acquaintance naming her daughter that, could you use [name]Allison[/name] instead? Or is that too dated?

[name]Alexis[/name] – what about [name]Alexandra[/name] and you can call her [name]Alexis[/name] if you want?

[name]Isabelle[/name] – I’m not a fan of this name, so I won’t be of much help here. Several weeks ago, a poster posted the name [name]Elizabelle[/name]. It had mixed reviews. But if you went with something like that, you could use all sorts of nicknames that you couldn’t with [name]Isabelle[/name], like [name]Eliza[/name], for example.

[name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Indigo[/name] – no suggestions, sorry.

[name]Samara[/name] – I actually like this name a lot. But if you’re just trying to get to [name]Sami[/name], why not just name her that? I knew a girl named [name]Sami[/name] when I was growing up and it wasn’t short for anything.

You have some good names to start with, but you said it yourself with [name]Addison[/name] - you shouldn’t have a boy [name]Jackson[/name] and girl [name]Addison[/name] in the same family, especially because -son literally means “son.” Another reason you’ve mentioned not to use it is your friend’s baby. [name]Allison[/name] would be better in that case, but still ends in -son. That in mind, [name]Alexis[/name] (or [name]Alexandra[/name]) beats both.

As far as [name]Isabelle[/name] goes, you don’t seem to like it that much. Thankfully, there’s myriad belle names out there. [name]Arabelle[/name]/[name]Arabella[/name], [name]Christabel[/name], [name]Amabel[/name], Rosabel, Lunabel, [name]Claribel[/name], [name]Corabelle[/name], [name]Willabelle[/name], Belphoebe, Belina and [name]Belle[/name] itself, which is shockingly not in the top 1000 (in the U.S.).

Perhaps instead of [name]Imogen[/name] you might consider [name]Geneva[/name], [name]Ginevra[/name], [name]Iona[/name], [name]Isla[/name] or [name]Emmeline[/name].

[name]Indigo[/name] and [name]Indie[/name] are great names. [name]Indra[/name] and [name]Indira[/name] are two other options.
[name]Samara[/name] is also lovely. This is my favorite on your list.
I strongly dislike [name]McKenzie[/name] and all related names.

Your kids all have a surname kind of feel to them, so I think [name]Addison[/name] is a great match. Here are some other suggestions:
[name]Ellery[/name]
[name]Avery[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
[name]Lawson[/name]
[name]Reagan[/name]
[name]Madison[/name]

As for your list…
[name]Addison[/name]- love with your sib set
[name]Alexis[/name]- nice choice. I like [name]Lexie[/name] for a nn. [name]Alexa[/name] is another option?
[name]Isabelle[/name]- maybe [name]Isobel[/name] for a spelling? It reminds me of [name]Imogen[/name].
[name]Imogen[/name]- nice name. Not sure it goes as well with your kids, but it’s nice.
[name]Indigo[/name]- not my style. Maybe [name]Indira[/name]? I like [name]Isla[/name] and [name]Ingrid[/name] best of the I names…
[name]Samara[/name]- not a fan of this, but if you like [name]Sami[/name]… Maybe just use that.

Good luck!

What about [name]Mirabel[/name] (nn [name]Miri[/name]) or [name]Bryony[/name]? Other suggestions would be [name]Greer[/name], [name]Maeve[/name], [name]Kaia[/name] or [name]Kylie[/name]. [name]Addison[/name] always reminds me of [name]Addison[/name]'s disease :(. [name]Alexis[/name] or [name]Alexa[/name] are beautiful as is [name]Isabelle[/name]. [name]Both[/name] very popular but timeless. [name]Imogene[/name] doesn’t fit with her siblings but still beautiful. [name]Both[/name] indigo or [name]Samara[/name] also would work well I think.

Is [name]Riley[/name] a girl or a boy?

I think you might want to avoid any unisex or -son ending names for a girl if you already have a unisex name ([name]Riley[/name]) on a boy and a -son ending name on a boy. I kind of want to wait to give my two cents until I know that info, haha

I like [name]Samara[/name] best from your list. If it helps, samara is the name for the helicopter seeds that come off maples and other trees. I love that connection

[name]Riley[/name] is a boy. His name was number 3 the year he was born unknown to me and I haven’t liked how many we run into. So I try and steer hubby away from at least top 10 names but he really likes the popular ones.

[name]Samara[/name] is probably the favourite on the non rejected list. Hubby is definitely not sold though so that might take some work. Still mourning the loss of [name]Evelyn[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name] which I preferred more and thought might slip into the popular side enough for hubby but no. But keep the ideas coming, I have a couple I’ll share with hubby to see if he approves.

I think [name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Samara[/name] would be the niice choices for you.

[name]Maddison[/name]
[name]Alexia[/name]
[name]Alessa[/name]
[name]Isaline[/name]
[name]Isadora[/name]
[name]Iseult[/name]
[name]Geneva[/name]
Gienna
[name]Evadne[/name]
[name]Indira[/name]
[name]Kaia[/name]

I too prefer [name]Samara[/name] from the short list. It has a pretty sound, an uplifting meaning, and is uncommon enough to be striking.

Some thoughts:

[name]Samiya[/name] (means ‘elevated, supreme’)
[name]Samira[/name] (means ‘friend’)
Inara (“ray of light”)
[name]Serena[/name]
[name]Regan[/name]
[name]Kendall[/name]
[name]Shelby[/name]
[name]Avery[/name]
[name]Ellery[/name] (somewhat close to [name]Everly[/name] / [name]Evelyn[/name])
[name]June[/name]
[name]Blair[/name]
[name]Mallory[/name]
[name]Hollis[/name]
[name]Macy[/name]

[name]Ainsley[/name]
[name]Cassidy[/name]
[name]Cecily[/name]
[name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Darby[/name]
[name]Delaney[/name]
[name]Delilah[/name]
[name]Ginger[/name]
[name]Greer[/name]
[name]Hollis[/name]
[name]Keely[/name]
[name]Laney[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Marley[/name]
[name]Madison[/name]
[name]Payton[/name] / [name]Peyton[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Sasha[/name]
[name]Sloane[/name]

Here’s some names that you could have [name]Indi[/name] as the nickname for:
~ [name]Cindy[/name]
~ [name]Indiara[/name]
~ [name]Indira[/name]
~ [name]Mindy[/name]

[name]Melinda[/name] (nn [name]Indi[/name])
[name]Miranda[/name] (nn [name]Indi[/name])

[name]Waverly[/name]
[name]Shiloh[/name]
[name]Nella[/name]

If you seem closest to agreeing on [name]Addison[/name], what about something like [name]Adelie[/name] or [name]Adalyn[/name] or [name]Adaline[/name]? They have similarities to [name]Amelie[/name] and [name]Evelyn[/name] that you like as well. I know how big a struggle it can be to agree on names, I definitely feel your pain. Best of luck

[name]Imogen[/name] is my favourite on the list, followed by [name]Samara[/name] as it’s cute and uncommon. [name]Samara[/name] [name]Isabelle[/name] would be pretty.

Oh, and Adalind.

Since you really dislike [name]Mackenzie[/name] I would pick [name]Addison[/name], despite it sharing the same ending with [name]Jackson[/name]. Your son might end up going simply by [name]Jack[/name] when he’s older, and I can see an [name]Addison[/name] very easily answering to [name]Addy[/name]/[name]Addie[/name]. If my name were [name]Piper[/name] I would be pretty perplexed if my little sister was named [name]Isabelle[/name] or [name]Samara[/name] - they come from such a different corner of the great baby naming universe!

I would throw [name]Addison[/name] out in that you have a friend with a child who has that name. [name]Alexis[/name] is very pretty and has great NN potential ([name]Lex[/name] or [name]Lexi[/name]). [name]Isabelle[/name] is beautiful and less popular that [name]Isabella[/name], which is a plus. [name]Imogen[/name] I would also throw out due to popularity. [name]Indi[/name] can work fine as a stand alone name. [name]Samara[/name] is also very pretty and not trendy like you said, I love the nn potential for this as well ([name]Sam[/name] or [name]Sami[/name]). I also like your list of [name]Amelia[/name], Everlyn, [name]Harriet[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Hannah[/name], and [name]Vivienne[/name]. Other suggestions I would say for you that you and your husband may agree upon are:

[name]Emerson[/name] (Has the feel of [name]Addison[/name], [name]Evelyn[/name], and [name]Everly[/name])
[name]Emma[/name] (kinda like [name]Emmeline[/name] and [name]Imogen[/name], but a bit more simple for DHs liking)
[name]Annetta[/name] (similar feel of [name]Harriett[/name])
[name]Tula[/name] (reminds me of [name]Indi[/name])
[name]Ava[/name] (reminds me of [name]Eden[/name] without the problematic ending of your surname)
[name]Kennedy[/name] (similar to [name]Mackenzie[/name] without the potential of the NN)
[name]Sydney[/name] (the same style as [name]Evelyn[/name])
[name]Anna[/name] or [name]Holly[/name] (reminds me of [name]Hannah[/name])

This is a random suggestion but I feel like [name]Quinn[/name] has the same feel as your other children’s names and might appeal to your husband. Good luck!
