I’m a long time fan of Nameberry, but this is my first post.
My husband and I want to start TTC later this year, so I’ve been thinking about Names!
I have a girl’s name that I’m leaning towards, but I would love some honest feedback from a few name nerds.
The name is Margaret Calla
A couple of questions:
[name_m]How[/name_m] do feel about [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]? It feels classic and underused to me, but my friends seem to think it’s very old lady.
Does Calla work with [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]?
Thank you in advance! I’m really looking forward to the extra insight and opinions!
I think [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Calla[/name_f] is terrific! I definitely don’t think of it as “old lady.” I know a number of young Margarets with vibrant personalities. I would call it a versatile timeless classic and I think [name_f]Calla[/name_f] works very well in the middle.
I absolutely adore [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. It’s what I would want to name our baby if only my husband would agree! It’s such a classy name, has so many nickname options, and a great history. I have a 14 year old student named [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], and I know a toddler [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Maisie[/name_f].
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Calla[/name_f] is nice, especially if it has significance to you.
Tell your friends that “old lady” is back in style. ”
One of the historical nicknames for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is ‘[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]’, so you could call her that if you can’t find a middle you like.
I like [name_f]Calla[/name_f]! It balances out [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]'s length and harsher consonants.
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Calla[/name_f] is a beautiful choice! I think it sounds very balanced with the softer [name_f]Calla[/name_f] to even out [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]'s harsher syllables. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] feels like a timeless name to me, not too dusty.
I agree that [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Calla[/name_f] is terrific and seems to meet all your criteria! Plus, you could even do the nn [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] for even more of a nature-tie-in! A few other “C” floral/nature names:

[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] coral might work.
I love [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. I have a daughter named [name_f]Margot[/name_f], and I wanted to call her [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], nn [name_f]Margot[/name_f], but my husband only likes names that don’t have a nickname so we didn’t use it. I think it’s classic and beautiful and there are a lot of nicknames available for it. [name_f]Calla[/name_f] is very nice as a middle.
I think it’s really pretty. Old lady names are definitely in style now ([name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] to name a few), and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] works well. Plus, it has SO many great nickname options as others have pointed out! I’d say go for it.
My friend just named her new addition [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. It has gotten a very positive reception from everyone. They call her both [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], which is a cute nickname for when she is little. I personally also like [name_f]Meg[/name_f]. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Calla[/name_f] is lovely.
