Hello! We are awaiting baby girl #2 next month and I’m hoping to get thoughts on some of our name options. Our oldest is [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] (goes by [name_f]Cece[/name_f]) and these are some of the names we are considering:
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is my favourite name, so that’s of course my favourite from your list I also love [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] isn’t for me, but I would love [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] or [name_u]Bernie[/name_u]. I’m not personally a fan of the rest.
I really like [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] with [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Cece[/name_f]’. My second favourite is [name_f]Valerie[/name_f]. The potential nn of [name_u]Vale[/name_u]/[name_f]Valley[/name_f] is very cute.
I like [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] the most with [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]. [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] and [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] are also lovely.
I think I like [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] best with [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], maybe because they don’t also end in -a. They match without sounding matchy.
But I also really love [name_f]Diana[/name_f] for you too.
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Dottie[/name_f]) - [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f], to me, feels pretty dated. I think [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] is a cute nn, though.
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] (nn Liddy) - [name_f]Lovely[/name_f]! Would make a perfect sister name for [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f].
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] - Also very sweet, though it doesn’t have quite the same feel as [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], imho.
[name_f]Diana[/name_f] - Might be my favorite with [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]!
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] - Sorry, just not a fan personally. Personal taste aside, though, [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] sounds so harsh next to [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f].
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] - Does not have an appealing sound to me personally, but I also feel like it doesn’t quite pair very well with [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], tbh.
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f] - Nms, but I think it could work.
Overall, [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] or [name_f]Diana[/name_f] would be just perfect! [name_u]Love[/name_u] both of them with [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this could help a little.
I love [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] that is my favorite from your list and I really like it with [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f].
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Dottie[/name_f]) - I like vintage names but this feels too old lady to me. Maybe [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] nickname dottie instead?
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] (nn Liddy) - I like this
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] - love [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] my favorite option
[name_f]Diana[/name_f] - this is okay but since it’s not common I think it’s really tied to [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Di[/name_f] that could just me though
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] - this is my second favorite name on your list. I like the spunk [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] has and the nickname [name_u]Ronny[/name_u]
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] - I think this is more common than your other choices esp with [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] sharing nickname [name_u]Val[/name_u]. Aside from popularity, I don’t really like this name that much for no particular reason.
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f] - same as [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f]
If [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is a name you are open to my favorites are [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] & [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] & [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
My vote goes for [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] or [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], with a slight lean towards [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] just because the nickname [name_f]Dotty[/name_f] is so cute!
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Dottie[/name_f])-[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] is so cute. I love it w/[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] too. It’s super unique yet not weird. [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] is a clever nn. I also like [name_f]Bette[/name_f] & [name_f]Betty[/name_f]. And [name_f]Nettie[/name_f]!
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] (nn Liddy)-[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is pretty & goes well w/[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] too. I just don’t care for Liddy for some reason. Something about it looks off. Maybe [name_f]Lydie[/name_f] would look nicer, but it’s still not my personal favorite.
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]-So sweet. It’s fun & spunky, but feels classic. Is it too cutesy w/[name_f]Cece[/name_f]? I think maybe a bit rhyme-y, but not a deal breaker.
[name_f]Diana[/name_f]-Not sure why, but I can’t get into this one. It just seems like one of those baby boomer names that isn’t ready for a comeback yet.
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f]-I’m not a fan of this one. It just sounds fussy.
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f]-This is fun! I never see this one peoples’ lists, but I quite like it. It has a cheerful sound.
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f]-This is fun & different. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Ginny[/name_f]? [name_f]Cece[/name_f] & [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] would be adorable.
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] - Cute, I like [name_f]Dotty[/name_f]. Gives me the same vaguely Catholic but fresh vibes as [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f].
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] - Absolutely stunning name. Elegant with an edge.
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] - Cute, though I usually wouldn’t match it with [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and I think it tends a bit too close to [name_f]Cece[/name_f].
[name_f]Diana[/name_f] - I do like this name in theory, what with the [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] connections and all, but it’s too dated for me in practice.
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] - Again with the vaguely Catholic vibes, but with more hairspray. NMS, personally.
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] - I think this is a great name! I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Valeria[/name_f] (Malaria) but this one has feminist pop-punk energy.
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f] - I’m sorry, but this has got to be one of my least favourite names. I don’t like state names in general, and with the addition of the nickname [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] (not a fan) and the first six letters, it’s just one of those things that I can’t find the appeal in. That said, I think mine is a fairly unpopular opinion, so don’t let me discourage you.
My favourites from this list are [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], and [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], with [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] winning out because of how utterly adorable “[name_f]Cece[/name_f] and [name_u]Val[/name_u]” sound. Good luck and stay safe out there!
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] - I like clunky [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f], but it’s a bit of style mismatch next to ethereal [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f]. If my older sister were [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and I was [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f], I might feel short-changed. But nicknames [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] or [name_m]Benny[/name_m] might soften it up a little. Not a huge fan of [name_f]Dottie[/name_f].
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] - [name_f]Lovely[/name_f], and sounds nice with [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f], if a little similar.
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] - Like previous posters, this is my favorite option for you. It has the same Mediterranean, celestial imagery as [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f], and a cute fresh sound.
[name_f]Diana[/name_f] - This shares some of the positive qualities of [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], but I just can’t picture it on a baby or little girl.
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] - I go back and forth on [name_f]Veronica[/name_f]. It’s spunky and kind of fun, but I feel like [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] is always the vixen/bad girl in media. Nickname [name_f]Vera[/name_f] would pair well with [name_f]Cece[/name_f] and might make me like it more.
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] - I don’t think [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] is ready for a comeback yet, but the possibility of [name_f]Cece[/name_f] and [name_u]Val[/name_u] is so fun I almost want you to go for it.
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f] - I share some people’s hesitations over the word “virgin” literally being in this name, but I like [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] and [name_f]Ginger[/name_f] as nicknames.
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Dottie[/name_f]) I think [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] is a really cute nickname
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] (nn Liddy) I like [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]!
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] A nice name
[name_f]Diana[/name_f] I love this name
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] A nice name
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] Beautiful name, probably my favourite from this list
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f] A nice name
I think [name_f]Cece[/name_f] and [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] are super cute together but it feels like a stretch coming from [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f]. [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] sound much better together and is a more natural way of getting to [name_f]Dotty[/name_f]. I feel like she would either be [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] or [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f]. If you called her [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] regularly, I think she will end up being [name_u]Bernie[/name_u]. I only say from experience. I thought my daughter [name_f]Zara[/name_f] would have the nickname [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] (which I had always loved from it’s a wonderful life) But zuzu is just such a completely different name, and when they are little you want them to know their full name and basically I have a [name_f]Zara[/name_f], not a [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] (as much as I would have liked to make that stick).
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] or [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]!
I really like that [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] has its own sound and doesn’t repeat the -ia ending of [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] - but even though [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] does, it’s such a lovely pairing with [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f]!
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]/[name_f]Dottie[/name_f] could be worth considering! If you like [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f], how about [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]?
[name_f]Diana[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] are my favorites!
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Dottie[/name_f])- I don’t love [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] or [name_f]Dot[/name_f] is adorable!
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] (nn Liddy)- Feels a little too modern for [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], but is also one of my favorite names. Liddy is cute too
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]- This is one of my favorites! I think it’s cute and well-known while also being not too common.
[name_f]Diana[/name_f]- This is my favorite! [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Diana[/name_f] have the same feel, and [name_f]Diana[/name_f] is a gorgeous name on its own.
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f]- Not my favorite, but a good choice.
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f]- Feels more like a mom name to me than a baby, but sounds good with [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f]- Not really my style, but cute! I love [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ginny[/name_f].
Bernadette and [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] are strong and elegant names. [name_f]Virginia[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], and lydia are a no. [name_f]Diana[/name_f] and [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] aren’t bad.
