Name for adopted daughter

If you really love [name_f]Lola[/name_f], then that is what you should go with. In 2014 it was #236 in popularity, that is some solid representation. It isn’t a strange one-off name that will cause a lifetime of headaches. Overtime the overriding and stronger association will become the baby for friends and family.

I like [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u] best. For what it is worth, you are right to follow the advice of the professionals guiding you.

I love [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u], I think that’s beautiful!

I love [name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u]. I think it is adorable and I’m surprised people make that connection. If you really love [name_f]Lola[/name_f] I think you should go for it.

I definitely say go for [name_f]Lola[/name_f] Ru! Someone will always have a negative impression of a name; I received the same comments for [name_f]Viveca[/name_f]. If you love a name go for it, people will shut their mouths about the name once she is here.

I like Livi [name_f]Collette[/name_f] the best. Livi is less common but super easy to say and spell. It’s lively you know.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Portsmouth. Congratulations on the new addition to your family! I love your name ideas especially [name_f]Lola[/name_f] Ru and [name_f]Ava[/name_f] Ru. [name_f]Lola[/name_f] Ru evokes an image of a smiley happy go lucky child, which is interesting given the meaning of [name_f]Lola[/name_f]. [name_f]Ava[/name_f] Ru makes me think of a calmer, quieter child. On balance I prefer [name_f]Ava[/name_f] Ru mainly because of the meaning of [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. Life and Knowledge go really nicely in my opinion as meanings. [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] is nice too if you wanted to extend Ru - [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] means friend. Good luck!

I love [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_f]Colette[/name_f]… adorable

I love [name_f]Lola[/name_f] Ru! Everyone has something negative to say about every name. I just started telling people we hadn’t picked a name until after our second daughter was born because I was sick of the comments. Go with the name you love (which is amazing anyway!) and don’t worry about it

Wow!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] this response! So insightful and really interesting.

If you love [name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u], go for it, it’s adorable! Another option would be to go for a longer first name with [name_f]Lola[/name_f] as a nick name. I think [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u] would be pretty

So true Leighmiller! Someone will have something to say no matter what.

Thank You ladies! I’m pretty sure I have definitely narrowed it down. Also, thank you for dropping the Chinese name thing. The truth is that even though it sounds nice in theory it’s just another multi faceted issue that isn’t black and white and must be dealt with by each individual family.

There are some names that mean nice things in [name_f]China[/name_f] but you would never ever name an American. Like du du and dong. I’m serious! Also there are nice sounding names that mean awful things that you would never want following the child whom you love. Like not a son, wishing for brother, and other names that identify these children as orphans.

So to those who kept the thread focused on naming thank you! To those offering parenting advice please be mindful of others parenting decisions. So often society feels entitled to intrude into the affairs of adopted families because we’re not biological. As a matter of fact adoptive families jump through hoops, training, and counseling for a very long time to prove we are worthy to adopt. It’s hurtful to go through all of that and have people that have never been in your shoes judge you about a decision they will never have to make. There are multiple visits with social workers post adoption for years. They write up reports on your parenting and interview the child. I promise on behalf of all adoptive families everywhere if something occurred to you 5 minutes ago or from a documentary, we have researched it to death and came to a decision that we hope is right.

My only addition to this are two names my Chinese friends have as their middle names:
[name_f]Mei[/name_f] - beautiful / plum
[name_m]Zan[/name_m] - support / comfort

I personally love [name_m]Zan[/name_m] and my friend loves it so much she uses it as her professional name an adult. It comes across more as funky rather than belonging to any particular culture (in fact most people think it is short for [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]!)

[name_m]Zan[/name_m] is beautiful! I have not heard that one! Definitely adding that one to the list!

[name_f]Lola[/name_f] is sweet, I wouldn’t think twice about meeting a [name_f]Lola[/name_f] at all! It’s a fun, spunky name but I don’t know how well it would age, perhaps as a nickname?

I also like [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], it’s mature but work well on a child with many cute nickname options like [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_u]Ever[/name_u] or even [name_f]Ella[/name_f].

[name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_m]Zan[/name_m] “[name_f]Lola[/name_f]”
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] Ru
Aila [name_f]Paige[/name_f] (met the sweetest little Chinese girl named this yesterday…pronounced eye-LAH)
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Liv[/name_f] “[name_m]Zan[/name_m]”
[name_f]Lotus[/name_f] [name_f]Ava[/name_f] “[name_f]Lola[/name_f]”
[name_f]Liliosa[/name_f] [name_f]Collette[/name_f] “[name_f]Lily[/name_f]” or “[name_f]Lola[/name_f]”

Good luck on your adoption journey!

Congratulations!
My favourites are definitely [name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u]. I agree if you love [name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u] then you should use it! If you’re still looking for names to add to the list then here are some suggestions:
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] (so much nickname potential)
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Annie[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] ([name_f]Ella[/name_f])
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]

Good luck

You are welcome. I am a social worker so really identified with your story. Really happy for you
