Hi again, so we thought we were settled but then haven’t been as sure lately. We’re in the third trimester soon and would like to pick a name in the next couple months so we are trying our favorites out. Big sister is Caraline Hope (Caroline with an a). We’re currently considering Marlowe and Margaret (nn Meg or Maggie), or possibly just Maggie on its own. We just started considering Rosemary. I also kinda like Fern but my husband isn’t as into it. We’ve thrown around Heidi but I don’t think that one feels right. Middle name combos are as follows…
Marlowe Mary
Marlowe Noel
Margaret Noel
Fern Noel
Which would you choose for a sister for Caraline? Also, just wondering…what’s the vibe you get from Marlowe? I can’t decide what kind of a name it is really haha
With Caraline Hope I like Marlowe Noel best, but generally speaking I prefer Fern I would choose a different middle name for Fern though as the two -n n- going into each other doesn’t flow well for me.
I love [name_f]Marlowe[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. [name_f]Love[/name_f] the alliteration, the mix of modern and traditional, and it’s just easy to say. [name_f]Marlowe[/name_f] gives me confident, cool girl, self-assured vibes
Marlowe Mary - really like this, they’re both in my master list of fave gal names! So this would almost certainly be my choice of these four.
Marlowe Noel - I am a back and forth on whether I like how this is almost a palindrome. The “lo” to “no” isn’t my fave though. I like how it looks tailored but as said a couple of times (lol), I also probably (but again going back and forth) prefer Noelle for a girl because I know a boy Noel where it’s pronounced “Nole”.
Margaret Noel - If Caraline were Caroline, this would be my top name as another classic. I love Maggie - and I also know a Margaret nn Peggy which is fab! But I guess if you’re going for Maggie or Meg as the nn then you’re getting the playfulness of Caraline.
Fern Noel - Fern is sprightly and pretty like Caraline but I don’t love the N of Fern running into the N of Noel, and I think a longer middle would better complement Caraline Hope. So Fern Margaret or another long name.
So I’m thinking 1 as they currently are but 4 would be up there with a new middle - lots of good possibilities!
Finally, Margaret Louise nn Marlowe is an option. I’d go for Marlowe if you really want it but it’s an option!
Edit: finally-finally, I also really like Rosemary nn Romy - Rosemary Noelle
Marlowe feels like it fits Caraline best, but is probably my least favorite out of these (nothing wrong with it—the others just appeal to me more). I get vintage, storybook vibes for Marlowe, like the name of a princess or someone important in a book. Also slight sea vibes since Mar stands for sea in my native language.
I like Marlowe Mary the best, because Noel sounds too much like a boy’s name for me (like, if it were her first name, teachers might think she’s a boy till they met her). However, I know there are girls who’ve been given James for a middle name, and it’s not that far behind. Sound-wise it’s r actually quite pretty!
I’d totally go [name_f]Marlowe[/name_f]. It’s pretty and has a cool vibe. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] go well with your daughter’s name too.
I like [name_f]Marlowe[/name_f] the best with [name_f]Caraline[/name_f]!
I think if you love [name_f]Fern[/name_f] you might be able to get away with [name_f]Marlowe[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f] or even [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Marlowe[/name_f] if your husband ends up liking it more down the road
From your options though, if [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is an honour name I would choose [name_f]Marlowe[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] as they both start with the [name_f]Mar[/name_f] (and I have seen people use similar names for first and middle combos and have them sound pretty like this one) but if not then I would pick [name_f]Marlowe[/name_f] [name_m]Noel[/name_m]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] or just [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] definitely fit best with [name_f]Caraline[/name_f], stylistically. And I love them!
[name_f]Marlowe[/name_f] kind of works. At first glance, it’s completely different from Caraline–it’s a unisex surname with modern usage, not a timeless, ageless classic. But you could spin it as a respelling of [name_f]Marlo[/name_f], which is a vintage feminine nickname, as [name_f]Caraline[/name_f] is a respelling of [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. It’s not a perfect fit, but you can make it work.
You might name her [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], nickname [name_f]Margo[/name_f]. It has the same sounds as [name_f]Marlowe[/name_f], and you get your [name_f]Meg[/name_f] / [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] nickname options, too.
With Caraline, I like Margaret Noel and Margaret Mary. Heidi would fit great if you are just worried about it not sounding right with Caraline.
Marlowe isn’t my taste but I’ve met a little girl named Marlo and she really fits her name. She’s spunky and sassy so that’s the vibe I get. I just find it different stylistically than Caraline which is classic like Margaret.
Oooh that makes sense. In that case I think you should stick to it! Honor names are probably what I’d value the most. Plus, it sounds nice!
Edit: I just looked at the meanings and together they’re very wintery. Reminds me of wood on a fireplace. I like it!
With [name_f]Caraline[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_m]Noel[/name_m] is my favorite! They’re such a great pairing. I want to like [name_f]Marlowe[/name_f] but it feels quite trendy and unisex, not my vibe unfortunately. It also makes me think of [name_m]Kit[/name_m] [name_f]Marlowe[/name_f] and the work of his I’m most familiar with is [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] [name_m]Faustus[/name_m], which I found interesting to read but also kind of weirds me out lol (I didn’t like A Picture of [name_m]Dorian[/name_m] [name_m]Grey[/name_m], either lol).
I LOVE [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] though, and I think [name_f]Caraline[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] is so beautiful! I would love to meet a [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_m]Noel[/name_m] or a [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f], or even a [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]?
