Name for British and mostly Swiss baby, slightly/quirky uncommon names?

We are expecting our first child. I’m really interested in your opinions on these (are they slightly quirky/uncommon/do you like them?) and especially similar suggestions, seeing as these are the only ones we could scrunch up. Thanks in advance

[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Erica[/name_f]
[name_f]Dora[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Juno[/name_f]
[name_f]Marina[/name_f]

My OH loves [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] but I myself think it’s a bit “meh” to be very honest… As for middle names, we’re currently considering Émeraude, Sévérine, [name_f]Lumina[/name_f] or [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]

Very nice choices! [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] is a favorite of mine and I think [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] is very underused and I would love to hear more of it.

I love [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]!

My favourites from your list are [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Marina[/name_f]. [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] is beautiful, I also really like [name_f]Juno[/name_f] Sévérine - perhaps [name_f]Juno[/name_f] [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f].

Suggestions:
[name_f]Bridgette[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]
[name_f]Karina[/name_f]
[name_f]Kirsten[/name_f]
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_f]Monika[/name_f]
[name_f]Nessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Sonia[/name_f]

Thanks :)!

boyandgirl

Seems like [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] is the winner. [name_f]May[/name_f] I ask what you like about [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]?

ceruleanstardust Thanks, [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is really great :)!

[name_f]Juno[/name_f] [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]… Hm. Actually, as a middle name to [name_f]Juno[/name_f] [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] is charming! I didn’t think I’d find any combo that could make me even consider this name… And [name_f]Juno[/name_f] [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] does have a very classic/[name_m]Roman[/name_m] feel, doesn’t it?

I love the the lacy, romantic, underused quality of [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]. It also reminds me of the [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] [name_u]Temple[/name_u] version of The [name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_f]Princess[/name_f]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though the character was mean, I remember being in awe when I heard [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] in that movie for the first time. So beautiful!

[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] is my favorite

I really like [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], [name_f]Marina[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]. [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] is one of my favourites. It’s very elegant and uncommon.

Though I love [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], I’m not keen on [name_f]Dora[/name_f] (perhaps because of the cartoon).

[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] doens’t appeal to me - sounds a bit harsh. I prefer [name_f]Larissa[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] or [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]. I like all the names on your list except [name_f]Dora[/name_f]. [name_f]Juno[/name_f] is my favourite.

Sévérine is so beautiful. What about [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] Sévérine?
Have you considered Ludivine or [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]/[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]?

Oh, interesting. Thanks  I think these might (?) be very American associations with the name? I’m currently ok with considering it as a middle name… which my spouse is pleased about. But it’s just not first name material to me personally.

Thanks  Sévérine is a version of a name my mother wanted to give me as a middle one (but in the post birth “haze” it didn’t make it on the bc…)

I think if we were to go with [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] Séverine I’d want to add a really “upbeat” 3rd name? [name_m]Just[/name_m] because both names have somewhat stern meanings.

No, I haven’t considered either! Thanks :)!

Thanks :)! [name_f]Larissa[/name_f] sounds a but like an unfinished version of [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] to me (I know, it isn’t).
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is gorgeous in English but I don’t like the [name_m]German[/name_m]/Swiss [name_m]German[/name_m]/[name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciations, tbh.

[name_f]Juno[/name_f] is also my favourite  I’m just somewhat concerned it won’t “stand the test of time”/will be seen as a faddy name, but I do really love girl’s names that end in an “O”

It really seems like a everybody likes [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] :)! (Whereas [name_f]Carina[/name_f] and [name_f]Erica[/name_f] seem to be less popular).

[name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is lovely but a bit too “godly” imo. But maybe [name_f]Dora[/name_f] is a better nickname used for… idk. [name_f]Eldora[/name_f]? Callidora?

That is true, [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] is definitely elegant and uncommon.
With the truly uncommon names I sometimes worry a famous criminal or storm will come a long in the next few years and it will be forever tainted… (maybe a weird concern).

Congrats!

In order of preference:

[name_f]Marina[/name_f] (so lovely and underused!)
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] (I like it with the soft “s” sound as opposed to the “z” sound)
[name_f]Juno[/name_f]
[name_f]Erica[/name_f]
[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Dora[/name_f] (reminds me too much of the explorer)

[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] reminds me of The [name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_f]Princess[/name_f] too! Could be a bad/good association depending.

[name_f]Marina[/name_f] and [name_f]Juno[/name_f] are probably my two other favourites. [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] is nice too. [name_m]Ah[/name_m] they’re all lovely choices, even the ones that aren’t my favourites.

I’m fascinated by [name_f]Emeraude[/name_f]! [name_f]Severine[/name_f] and [name_f]Lumina[/name_f] are also gorgeous middle name choices.

Thanks  Émeraude was actually a suggestion of my little sister, there’s an actress with that name she apparently likes. I don’t know the actress but I like the name  And seeing as we’re from a partially [name_m]French[/name_m] speaking country, why not use a [name_m]French[/name_m] middle name? (Also, my first name is also [name_m]French[/name_m], so yeah…)
Sévérine is a version of my unofficial middle name (so we’re basically copying my mother’s tastes with that one  )

Sometimes I feel like [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] would be the best choice (we both like it, I myself actually do love it. it’s classy and rather uncommon, OH would definitely agree…), but then I see the more exciting [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_f]Marina[/name_f] and [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] and am like… “but… but the quirky names!!” :o

My favorite of those is [name_f]Juno[/name_f], followed by [name_f]Marina[/name_f] and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]. [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] is OK but the sounds are a little harsh for me, and there was an American TV show [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] Explains It All in the 90s that makes it sound a little dated. [name_f]Erica[/name_f] was pretty popular in the US in the 80s so doesn’t stand out for me. [name_f]Dora[/name_f] has a pretty frumpy image in the US, but I like [name_f]Eudora[/name_f] and [name_f]Isadora[/name_f].

Suggestions:

[name_f]Allegra[/name_f]
[name_f]Callista[/name_f]
[name_f]Eudora[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
[name_f]Linnea[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Marissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Nerissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Ondine[/name_f]
[name_f]Selena[/name_f]
[name_f]Serena[/name_f]

I adore [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], and Sévérine is beautiful, too. [name_f]Dora[/name_f] is lovely but it seems incomplete to me. Cleodora? [name_f]Pandora[/name_f]? [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]?

I really like [name_f]Serena[/name_f] (as a first) and [name_f]Odette[/name_f] as a middle name. Thanks :)!

I think we’ve realised that we want a underused and somewhat timeless name. Basically like [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] but less popular/a little bit quirkier… Which is why [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Marina[/name_f] and [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] are currently our top 3… But Idk… I love [name_f]Juno[/name_f] but the name seems currently rather modern (despite being an old name) so I wonder whether it will date.

I agree, [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] is a bit harsh… Unfortunately.

This is so difficult.
