[name_m]Hi[/name_m] - We are expecting boy/girl twins within the next 3 weeks and are having trouble with the little girls name. We already have a 16mth old son, [name_m]Zachary[/name_m] who also gets called [name_m]Zac[/name_m] as we like both names equally. For the boy twin we have settled on [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], as we like [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]/[name_m]Jake[/name_m] equally and it fits with [name_m]Zachary[/name_m]/[name_m]Zac[/name_m] well. We are however at a total loss for the girl though. We want a name that goes with [name_m]Zachary[/name_m] & [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] but does not necessarily have to match as she is a special case on her own. What complicates things is that we already know she has a serious heart defect and other organ problems which means she may not live that long, so have been trying to find a name with a great meaning as well. All suggestions welcome. Thanks
Wow.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]? It means ‘favored’ in the bible she exemplified prayer.
To me it sounds like a perfect name and combo.
[name_m]Zachary[/name_m], [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] and [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]
ps. I have a few friends who had babies with serious heart defects and other things, and two of them are now healthy 4 and 5 year old girls. Pray your heart out (if you do that kind of thing), you never know what could happen.
I would choose a name with the desired meaning. I know it’s not a nameberry fave but I would name her [name_f]Hope[/name_f]. It’s an obvious choice but a beautiful one. As a name I feel like [name_f]Hope[/name_f] got a lil dated in the 80’s and isn’t used at all anymore. But that makes it an unusual choice that is new and refreshing.
Best of luck. Lots of people here sending you positive thoughts and prayers.
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Flamingo & Rainydaygarden, thanks for the kind words and those options. [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] is actually a name I like but my partner is not as keen. He has previously suggested [name_f]Hope[/name_f] however, although I was a little unsure of going with a name which represents her condition in that way. I want to make sure the condition does not define her as a person, and with a name like [name_f]Hope[/name_f] I kind of think it will. Would be interested in hearing other peoples opinions on using a name like [name_f]Hope[/name_f] for a baby which at best has a very small chance <15% of surviving the first year? Along with any other suggestions as well, thanks
Your daughter should be named whatever name you like best. Her purportedly having a heart defect doesn’t mean she needs a different name.
First off I’m sorry about your daughter and her heart condition and my thoughts go out to you and your partner. A name that sprung to mind to me was [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] which means beloved child.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about something with a strong and empowering name meaning for her?
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] means “Strong woman”
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] means “Strength and mighty in battle”
[name_f]Esme[/name_f]/[name_f]Mae[/name_f] mean “[name_f]Beloved[/name_f]”
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] means “God’s promise”
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] means “Good news”
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] means “Blessing”
Best of luck
Okay, here are some more suggestions:
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]
[name_f]Savannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Samantha[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] (I’m seconding sunkissedchild)
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] (also rooted in the Bible like [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] and [name_m]Zachary[/name_m])
I chose names where the second letter is an “a” because I noticed that in both of your boys.
hmmm well if your partner likes [name_f]Hope[/name_f] but you think it might be too literal, which i agree with, what about a name that means hope like [name_f]Nadia[/name_f]?
or maybe [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] or [name_f]Noemi[/name_f]? with [name_f]Noemi[/name_f] that one you can call her [name_f]Emi[/name_f] for short that goes along with your boys short nn. [name_m]Both[/name_m] mean “my delight” which I think is super cute
if you like [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], have you tried asking about [name_f]Anna[/name_f]/[name_f]Ana[/name_f] instead? Maybe he doesn’t like the “H” sound in [name_f]Hannah[/name_f].
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] i helped! good luck, your little girl is in my prayers
Praying for your precious baby.
I was also thinking of [name_f]Esme[/name_f] (beloved) or [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (gift of God). I do like [name_f]Hope[/name_f] but you should only use it if it fits for you.
My heart goes out to you. Stay strong and know that many people in the Nameberry universe will be thinking of you. It’s wonderful to hear that flamingo has known children who have prospered in spite of serious congenital conditions.
I agree with Casilda that you should choose the name you like best. Is there a particular meaning you would like her name to have? Perhaps you’ll be able to find a name you like that also has the meaning you desire.
I think the suggestion of [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] is nice. While thinking of Hebrew names like [name_m]Zachary[/name_m] and [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], I did think of my own name - [name_f]Naomi[/name_f]. I do think it goes nicely with [name_m]Zachary[/name_m] and [name_m]Jacob[/name_m].
My other thought was a name that means “dawn”. [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] and [name_f]Zora[/name_f] are three that I know. I thought of “dawn” as a celebration of the dawn of her birthday and for every subsequent dawn that she is with you. Or perhaps a name that means “thanks” or “gratitude”, although I cannot seem to find any.
Best wishes to you and your family. xooxo
I also agree with Casilda to choose the name that you love. If you’d love to have a name with a special meaning for her I found these:
[name_f]Amy[/name_f] (means love)
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] or [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] (both mean strong)
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] (I’m also seconding sunkissedchild’s suggestion because of the great meaning)
Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you, your family and your unborn little girl in this hard time and we are hoping with you that your daughter will be able to live the best life she possibly can.
I have to put in another vote for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].
It seems you want your daughter’s name to be meaningful, yet not “in-your-face.”
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Leona[/name_f]? In my highly-recommended baby name book here at home, the given meaning is “strong as a lioness.” I find that so inspiring.
My other immediate thought was of the name chosen last year by a close friend for her daughter: [name_u]Teagan[/name_u] Kardia, which all together means “beautiful” ([name_u]Teagan[/name_u]) “Heart” (Kardia.)
On a personal note, the doctors told my mum to expect the same things for my baby sister. I remember mum sitting us down and telling us, “the baby may be special.” My sis was born 100% healthy and is now a gorgeous 20 year old sweetheart of a person, attending University and loving life. Her names are [name_f]Naomi[/name_f], which means “pleasant one” and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], which means “my God is abundance.”
Go with your instinct to name your girl, as with your boys. Their names are very handsome.
However long your daughter’s life, be assured it will be meaningful. Blessings upon you and your family. [name_f]May[/name_f] you find strength to thrive during a trying time.
I’ll try again, though I really love [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] with your boys…
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Eve[/name_f]? Easily called the adorable [name_f]Evie[/name_f]. [name_f]Eve[/name_f] symbolizes feminine life… Either it will celebrate your little girl and the life she will live despite the odds, or it will celebrate and commemorate the little precious life that she will have lived within you.
[name_m]Zachary[/name_m] ([name_m]Zac[/name_m]), [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] ([name_m]Jake[/name_m]) and [name_f]Evie[/name_f]
I like this choice, and pray for the best outcome for your family. You should be granted the strength for whatever comes your way!
I’m so sorry to hear about this. I’m kind of leaning towards [name_f]Grace[/name_f] or some form of the name. It’s always been a favourite of mine or I would go with [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] which means “My joy, my pleasant one”
First off, prayers for your precious baby! I agree with other posters that I would not name solely based on the illness. I would go with a name you love that goes great with your boys’. I love suggestions of [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Leona[/name_f], and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]. [name_m]How[/name_m] about:
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f]
Sending prayers your way! I think Raphaella would be lovely with [name_m]Zachary[/name_m] and [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]. It means G-d heals in Hebrew.
Thank you all for the suggestions, many of you seem to agree with me about [name_f]Hope[/name_f] as well which makes me think we are doing the right thing by avoiding it in this situation. I really love the meaning of [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] as well and although not that keen on the full name the nick-name [name_u]Mattie[/name_u] is very cute. Also really like [name_f]Eva[/name_f]/[name_f]Eve[/name_f]/[name_f]Evie[/name_f] as a suggestion as it goes great with the boys names and has a great meaning. Other suggestions I have added to me list to discuss with my partner are [name_f]Grace[/name_f]/[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]/[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]. Also, if it helps her middle name is going to be [name_f]Christina[/name_f] after my grandmother. Thanks again
I agree with the poster who said that regardless of your daughter’s health, you ought to give her a name you really love. [name_f]Althea[/name_f], one of my all-time favorites, means with healing power/ to heal.
