Days away from my baby being born and still on the fence so looking for the feedback to help with my decision making. Which of these names do you prefer?
[name]Silas[/name] [name]Matthews[/name] or [name]Drake[/name] [name]Matthews[/name]
INSIGHT:
My last name is fairly common so looking for a first name that’s not nearly as common yet still sounds nice.
The name “[name]Drake[/name]” is paying tribute to his half-English and half-Chinese background (it’s Year of the Dragon and [name]Drake[/name] means ‘dragon’ in old English). Naturally everybody assumes it’s named after the rapper, which is kind of annoying but i can live with it since he’s also Canadian and I like him. My mom associates it with the meaning of “male duck” (i didn’t even know that was the meaning until she said it)
“[name]Silas[/name]” we just like how it looks and i think it’s a bit more unique. Where [name]Drake[/name] seems to have a strength element to it i find [name]Silas[/name] to be charming and slightly less pretentious/trendy sounding.
I love [name]Drake[/name]! My DH is also Chinese and our babe will be born in the year of the Dragon too. I would love to have considered this name but DH won’t go for it due to Canadian born rapper [name]Drake[/name] (who’s music I love and we are from Toronto as well).
I love the sound of it and what it stands for so my vote is definitely on [name]Drake[/name].
[name]Silas[/name] is a very nice boys name and I agree it sounds a little more ‘gentlemanly’ but I have an association with it to the character from the Da [name]Vinci[/name]'s code.
I love [name]Silas[/name] much more than [name]Drake[/name] (which is a male duck). However, I think [name]Drake[/name] [name]Matthews[/name] flows better than [name]Silas[/name] [name]Matthews[/name] (both names end in an “s”). Why don’t you take both names to the hospital with you and make your final decision after meeting your son. It’s always good to have a couple of choices because the one you’ve chosen may not “feel” right or the baby may not “look” like that name.
I’ll certainly be trying that approach. My biggest concern is looking at the baby and getting lost with a “he doesn’t look like an any name at the moment” type situation and end up just as conflicted as i am now so hoping at least be leaning in one direction or the other before hand.
I much prefer [name]Silas[/name]! [name]Silas[/name] [name]Matthews[/name] sounds great, and I agree, [name]Silas[/name] sounds much less pretentious than [name]Drake[/name] does to me (maybe it’s the rapper thing). Then again, I’m drawn to softer names, and [name]Silas[/name] has a softer feel to me than [name]Drake[/name] does. [name]Silas[/name] [name]Matthews[/name] is fabulous!
I love [name]Drake[/name], it’s a favorite. I like that it’s a subtle nature name and gives the nn [name]Draco[/name]. Also love the link to his heritage.
I would go with [name]Drake[/name] [name]Matthews[/name]! It has a spunk to it and it has the heritage and family background! They both are beautiful choices so he will have a awesome name either way!
And I agree with what was said earlier, choose when you see him and at that moment you will know!!
I really love both names! [name]Drake[/name] [name]Matthews[/name] flows better and is easier for me to say with a southern accent. So, my vote would be [name]Drake[/name].
I would choose [name]Drake[/name]. They are both nice, but I like the nature reference with [name]Drake[/name] (I also think of it as a male duck). I’ve always thought the name [name]Drake[/name] with the nn Ducky would be adorable

Personally, [name]Silas[/name] is the name of a villain - either from Da [name]Vinci[/name] code or a popular soap opera in the UK…

[name]Love[/name] [name]Silas[/name]! [name]Drake[/name] reminds me of a dragon or the rapper. But I do agree with PPs that it doesn’t flow the best with [name]Matthews[/name]. Is is possible to do [name]Silas[/name] [name]Matthew[/name]? I assume [name]Matthews[/name] is an honoring name, and I think [name]Matthew[/name] would honor just as well! (sorry if you’ve already answered this, I didn’t read the entire thread yet)
