Name for my main characters

I’m writing a book about a gay trans guy and his friends going through hugh school. I thought about [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] [name_m]Theodor[/name_m] (nerdy, shy, reserved, sweet, witty, honest, loyal and a dog lover) for my main guy and then [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] or [name_u]Francis[/name_u] [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] (football jock but he’s super cool and he loves frogs, dogs and horses) for the guy that he ends up dating.

Could I have your opinions on these names so far and maybe some name ideas for the following characters:
•An enby using she/they pronouns: she is a total badass, they have a heart of gold though and she always takes in the stray kittens on their street.

•A genderfluid, ace guy using he/it pronouns: it is super sweet and a plant obsessed hufflepuff. He is a dork and quite loud.

•A cis bi girl (poc) using she/her pronouns: she is funny, honest and independent. She relies on her friends to keep her comfortable though, her [name_m]Meyer[/name_m] briggs personality is INTJ

•A cis dude (asian) using he/him: he is really shy and gives of kid at the back of the class, listening to music vibes. He’s really just your ‘average’ teen dude.

•A queer and questioning person (either gender) using xe/eir/he/she pronouns: xe is a musical theatre kid and she loves the outdoors. He is obsessed with marvel and eir is super cute.

[name_u]Jasper[/name_u] is great; sound like it really fits the character! I actually thought [name_m]Theodor[/name_m] was a spelling mistake, so I think [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] might be a little less confusing.

Out of the two options, I prefer [name_u]Francis[/name_u] [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] the diversity! [name_m]Just[/name_m] a piece of advice, which you can totally ignore, since it’s obviously up to how you feel comfortable writing. Switching up the pronoun use is a great way to establish the pronouns they use and also a wonderful way to display diversity, however, I probably wouldn’t do it mid sentence. I’ve read a book with a genderfluid main character, and the author tended to swap the pronouns every chapter/couple of chapters. Otherwise, the writing can get a little difficult to read.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] I helped! You might just have to scroll through lists and see which ones fit the idea of the character you have in your head. Sometimes I find perfectly good names, but they just don’t seem to suit my character. Name Generators are also useful! Good luck

Thanks a lot, I think I definitely prefer [name_u]Francis[/name_u] aswell. There’s a lot of great name suggestions here, I especially like: [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_u]Blair[/name_u] and Justice/ [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] and Finley/ [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], [name_f]April[/name_f], [name_f]Orla[/name_f] and Yasmin/ [name_m]Raphael[/name_m], [name_u]Julian[/name_u] and Oliver/ [name_f]Andie[/name_f], [name_u]Zion[/name_u] and [name_u]Reed[/name_u].

Ooh, yeah that’s a fab point about the pronoun changing. I was thinking of doing separate chapter in each characters pov so that might help even more and then I can split pronoun usage like you suggested as I can see how it would get confusing.

Thanks for the comment about the diversity! Im tired of reading books just about white cishets when I’m a queer ace trans guy so I thought I’d make it as diverse as my friend group so people can relate to it. Thanks for the tip on name generators aswell

[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: I forgot to add that I’d had [name_m]Theodor[/name_m] spelt that way at first because the character was going to be Danish but then I added more characters so [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] might be less confusing so I might change it, thanks again

No worries, I’m glad I could help, and I’m happy you liked some of the names!
