Husband and I love the nickname “[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]” for a girl, but don’t love [name_f]Winnifred[/name_f] for a name. Any other suggestions for a first name that we could get the “[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]” nickname from?
[name_f]Winona[/name_f]
Winry
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]
[name_u]Whitney[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]
[name_f]Wendy[/name_f]

[name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f]
[name_u]Wynn[/name_u]

[name_f]Arwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Edwina[/name_f]
[name_f]Winsome[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowen[/name_u]
My first thought was [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]/[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]/[name_f]Gwendoline[/name_f].
My favorites are [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], [name_f]Arwen[/name_f], [name_f]Anwen[/name_f], [name_f]Winona[/name_f], and [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
What about [name_m]Wynton[/name_m]? It’s a musical name inspired by [name_m]Wynton[/name_m] Marsalis.
Also, how about one of my favourites - Elowyn?
My husband and I plan to name our daughter [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] too! Great choice ” but like you we aren’t in love with [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] so here are some of the names we considered…

[name_u]Winter[/name_u]
Eventually after digging through old census records, ancient names, surnames, and many other records, lists, and even dictionaries we found something we could both agree on, so I’m sure with you guys will too! Good luck!
Ceridwin or [name_m]Delwin[/name_m] I think would work.
If you can’t warm up to [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_u]Winslow[/name_u], or [name_f]Winona[/name_f], would you consider one of the old Anglo-[name_m]Saxon[/name_m] names with the suffix “-wynn”, meaning “joy”? They have rather a Tolkien-esque feel.
Elfwynn “elf joy”
Ethelwynn “noble joy”
Ashwynn “ash tree joy”
Oswynn “God’s joy”
Saewynn “sea joy”
Perhaps they’re a bit too much for you, but they definitely would shorten nicely to [name_f]Winnie[/name_f].
