Name for our daughter…help

I’m 14 weeks pregnant. [name_f][/name_f] Our top girl name has been [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] for years. [name_f][/name_f] I love the way it sounds and during a time in my life that I was starting my life over I moved to a place that had a ton of [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] trees. [name_f][/name_f] So for me they symbolize new beginnings and brought me so much joy. [name_f][/name_f] We haven’t decided on a middle name other than I’d like it to be a subtle [name_f]French[/name_f] name like mine. [name_f][/name_f] Our two tied names are [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] and [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] in third [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] Something I don’t care for about [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is how fast the name is raising and now it’s been seen as a trendy name. [name_f][/name_f] As someone that had the 4th most popular name for my birth year that definitely gives me pause.

[name_f][/name_f]

Our other top name is a completely different vibe. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] [name_f]Rossi[/name_f], both family names which would be really special. [name_f][/name_f] I do like how uncommon they both are and I think they sound really pretty together. [name_f][/name_f] I would call her [name_f]Valley[/name_f] for short.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]An[/name_m] issue I have with this name though is if we do have more kids our girl and boy names wouldn’t go with this one.

[name_f][/name_f]

I’m not sharing any of our names with friends or family so any feed back would be helpful. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f] Thank you.

I love [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] or [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]!

[name_f][/name_f]

I personally think you should go with a name you love and it sounds like [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is that name. Have you thought about doing [name_f]Rossi[/name_f] Magnolia/ [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] to avoid the first name being more popular than you’d like or do you hate it?

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

I feel Magnolia is the name to use - it has so much symbolic meaning for you, it gives Maggie, Lolly, Nellie, Nola, Lia; and it’s never going to be a “six kids in class with the same name” name. If anything, the trends are moving (slowly) to mid century names.

Hope comes across OK over the internet, but I am not super keen on any of your middle names. To me, Magnolia & Vivienne compete, not complement; I don’t love how the A of Magnolia runs into A of Adeline and visually that they have so many repeat letters; and I like Claire but don’t see it as the Frenchy-French name - it’s of course very French but I mean, it seems more Irish to me. If had to choose would go Claire, then Adeline. Actually, Magnolia Claire is very pretty & delightful!

If you’re not sure, perhaps consider: Magnolia Lucette; Magnolia Cosette; Magnolia Delphine; Magnolia Marie-Claire; Magnolia Sabine; Magnolia Sylvie; Magnolia Zélie; Magnolia Frances; Magnolia Faye.

Either way, I don’t think you should let worries on popularity hold you back from this name. I’m not sure it’s as much like that these days, especially for girls’ names.

What’s more likely to feel trendy (as @tori101 reminded me of) is the sound: we are just heading out of peak E names and L sounds in girls’ names. So you may still get several Ellies, Eloises, Lilys, Milas, Laylas, and Matildas in your daughter’s class. The nn Valley (if you go Valencia) will fit into that trend. It won’t escape!

That said, and turning more fully to it, Valencia Rossi is a super swish name - as in a showstopper. If these names reflect and speak to your heritage, then maybe that is a good switch? How would you feel about giving up Magnolia?

Rather than popularity (as neither popular and / but both trendy in a certain L way), think you need to decide if you want something “Southern”, sweet and charming, or “international”, assertive and glam.

Hope this helps! :sparkles:

Magnolia Vivienne is gorgeous - elegant, meaningful and lovely. While Magnolia is on the rise, I’m not sure it will become a Top 10 name, if that makes sense.

Valencia Rossi is pretty and strong too (and I do think Magnolia and Valencia work together). I guess it depends how much you focus on sibset matchy-ness, or whether you’re okay with the names just not clashing? Each kid is an individual after all

In weighing up the two names, I’d say you could ask yourself:

  • what’s more important: family names or the symbolism of Magnolia?
  • do you want something sweet, floral and sparky (Magnolia) or something sleek, sharp and international (Valencia)?
  • can you imagine not using the name you’ve had for years?
  • which nicknames do you prefer: Maggie, Nola, Na, Nolie, Mags - or Valley, Leni, Via, Val?

I love [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] [name_f]Rossi[/name_f]!

I like both, but it sounds like [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is the choice for you. While trending, it is by no means going to be in the top 10 any time soon.

I don’t know if my advice will be helpful as the names you have picked are literally show stopping!!
[name_f][/name_f]I am a big fan of [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- and I love the significance it has for you and the meaning it holds on your heart [name_f][/name_f]. I love all the nickname options too. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite middle pairing is [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Valencia[/name_f] is also stunning [name_f][/name_f]- and I love the connection it has to heritage and family. I think family names are easier to understand connection to [name_f][/name_f]. And [name_f]Valley[/name_f] is such a cute nickname

[name_f][/name_f]

I think my heart leans to [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] [name_f]Rossi[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]. Future’s are unknown and maybe future names don’t get used or your style changes [name_f][/name_f]. It feels like you may have more hang ups with [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]

[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is such a lovely name! [name_f][/name_f] I can understand your concern as it is currently much higher than I thought it was in the national rankings, but I do agree with the other berries that I find it hard to believe that it will ever break the top 10. [name_f][/name_f] Plus, popular names now aren’t nearly as popular as they were in our generation! [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is such a special name to you and it is clearly where your heart is. [name_f][/name_f] I would use it with no concerns whatsoever. [name_f][/name_f] :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:[name_f][/name_f]. [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is so very lovely! [name_f][/name_f] I also think [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Valley[/name_f] or [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Rossi[/name_f] would be lovely if you decide you’d like to keep one of the family names in there—Magnolia [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] is a bit rhymey for me, but I do like [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] or [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_m]Valentine[/name_m]!

[name_f][/name_f]

Good luck!

I love [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] and [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]! [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] [name_f]Rossi[/name_f] is also very nice but definitely gives a different vibe than [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer the sound of one or the other with the last name?

I adore [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], I agree that Marigold’s rise in popularity is having a particularly hot streak right now. I would say that whilst [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] [name_f]Rossi[/name_f] is a sweet name, if it’s not going to match the sibset, I personally wouldn’t choose it.

[name_f][/name_f]

I think [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] or [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] sound wonderful together. I think you could still use [name_f]Valley[/name_f] as a nickname too if you went with [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]!

I adore [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]. [name_f]Gorgeous[/name_f] name. Although it may be rising in popularity, it has plenty of nickname options that would set her apart from others. I know a [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] called “Nolie” or “Nola” which I find darling. Go with the name you love and always have loved! I think you’ll regret it if you don’t.

[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

I’ve never met someone else named [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]. I do know a [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] though, but it’s a very pretty name.

I happen to think [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] and [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] sound like sisters.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is nice.

[name_f][/name_f]

I do like [name_f]Rossi[/name_f] a lot.

I think [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] and [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] do have similar vibes.

[name_f][/name_f]

I too would be concerned with how fast it is rising but it seems to be the name you love and it has significance for you. So I think you should use it. Of the combos, my favorite is [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f].

I personally love[name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- stunning. I think the As run into each other too much on [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] feels like a bit of a filler middle to me, although it is a pretty combo.

[name_f][/name_f]

It sounds like [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] holds really special meaning for you, and so I would definitely lean towards using that [name_f][/name_f]- it may be rising but it’s unlikely to be number one, and it has so many nickname options that little Magnolias will be able to differentiate between each other. I was surprised to see it’s 138 in the US when it doesn’t appear to rank in the UK at all, but 138 here is [name_f]Zainab[/name_f] which I’ve hardly heard at all. [name_m]Even[/name_m] with the bigger data set of the US, Magnolias only accounted for 0.121% of babies in 2024. All of which is to say, there’s popular and then there’s popular, you know?

[name_f][/name_f]

I do think [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] and [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] could be sisters, but appreciate it depends what else you’ve got on your lists. In isolation, [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] [name_f]Rossi[/name_f] is very[name_f][/name_f] cool, it’s almost giving [name_m]Bond[/name_m] girl or supermodel vibes!

Thank you [name_f][/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] Actually a long time ago I wrote down [name_f]Rossi[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] in my note app for baby names. [name_f][/name_f] The problem with [name_f]Rossi[/name_f] is that it doesn’t sound great with our last name.

Thank you [name_f][/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] I do like those middle names because they don’t sound very french, it’s similar to my middle name. [name_f][/name_f] You mentioned that [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] ends with an A and [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] starts with an A and I didn’t even notice that. [name_f][/name_f] I don’t care that as well, now that I see that.

[name_f][/name_f]

Honestly I’d be sad to not use [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] but I’d also be sad not to use both of my family names. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]My[/name_f] husband suggested today [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] [name_f]Rossi[/name_f] at first I thought maybe that could work but I’m not crazy about how that looks written down. [name_f][/name_f] But maybe if I’m desperate not to have to choose between the names I’ll do it, lol.

I wonder if [name_f][/name_f]- with a last name in play [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Rossi[/name_f] [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] XXX flows and looks better?

[name_f][/name_f]

(Also you should keep [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] in running as no A to A situation. I just find them in competition with each other but they do look smart and tailored together).

Thank you, I love them too which makes it so hard to choose.

[name_f][/name_f]

Those are good questions and I’ve been trying to ask myself what is more important to me, what [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] means to me or honoring both sides of my family and I honestly don’t know. [name_f][/name_f] I thinking maybe when she’s born I will know better….hopefully lol

[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] may be rising in popularity but it’s definitely not going to be in the top 20 any time soon, I don’t believe the top 50 either, so she will still be unique enough in the classroom for sure. And it’s a beautiful name. I’ve honestly never met a [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] in real life. [name_f][/name_f] I say you’re safe from it being overly popular :sparkling_heart:
