Name for our first baby (girl)

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone,

My wife is due with our first baby, a girl, in [name_u]March[/name_u]. We’ve been loving this site for a while now, but recently discovered these forums and all the great suggestions you all make, so we are hoping you can help us too!

Here’s our current short list, to give you a flavour of what we like:

[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] is my favourite, as it feels fresh but traditional and I love all the nicknames ([name_f]Juno[/name_f], Juju, Junebug etc).

We also appreciate that there are a lot of two syllable names ending in “a” on our list, which seems to be a trend at the moment. I guess like most parents and soon-to-be parents here, we want a distinctive name that strikes the right balance by being individual, but not too weird, so we are open to some totally different options too!

We do both love [name_f]Vada[/name_f], but it’s very rare here in the UK, and is therefore likely to be met with lots of Stars Wars Darth Vader references!

(If we were having a boy it would have been simpler, as we both love [name_m]Fox[/name_m]!)

We look forward to seeing your suggestions!

From your list…

I love:

I like…
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] (pretty but too popular)

Out of everything you listed I’m only fond of [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] simply for the [name_f]Juno[/name_f] implications.

Would you consider [name_f]Juno[/name_f]/[name_f]Juni[/name_f]/[name_u]June[/name_u] as nicknames? Completely up to you though, she’s your baby. And congratulations.

Some suggestions based on the names you like:

I just [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]!! I’ve recently fallen in love with this name too. It has a spunky, distinct, quirky, cute, adorable vibe. I also love the nickname [name_f]Juno[/name_f]. [name_f]Juni[/name_f] is really cute too. Juju makes me smile and laugh with delight. I vote [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]!!

From your list, my personal favorites were:

Overall, [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] is my personal favorite. I completely agree with the idea of multiple nicknames - as it gives lots of breathing room - and it’s just such a light, lovely name with a very distinct flair to it!

Other suggestions:

Best of luck to both of you!

I second everyone voting for [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] - just gorgeous! I also love [name_f]Etta[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. I would also suggest [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] as a sweet name along the lines of [name_u]Juniper[/name_u].

I think [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] are both very popular - she would be one of several in her class at school.

I really dislike [name_u]Wren[/name_u] - I think it sounds ‘trendy’ and will age badly.

Congratulations and good luck!

I think [name_f]Zara[/name_f] would be perfect for you! It feels fresh, but it has a history, and it fits right in with your style, plus it has the A thing you like (though pronounced differently). It reminds me of [name_f]Vada[/name_f], but without the Darth Vader references (I thought of that immediately when I read [name_f]Vada[/name_f]). It would likely invite references to the clothing brand, but I don’t think that would be a negative association like Darth Vader.

[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] is definitely my favorite! (Aluna is second!) I also like [name_u]Wren[/name_u] and [name_f]Etta[/name_f]. I really don’t like [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], and [name_f]Vada[/name_f].

What a lovely bunch of names. I like all of them, except that I do prefer the name [name_f]Elona[/name_f] to Aluna. It looks less made up and is slightly prettier I think. Here are some more suggestions:

Some name suggestions:

I tried to keep the names with two syllables and ending in a.

I think [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] would be perfect, knowing what you would like in a name for a daughter. You didn’t mention how your partner feels about [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]…I think if she likes it too, then there’s your winner. Also, [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] & [name_m]Fox[/name_m] sound great together, if later on your have a little guy, too.

[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] is my favourite from your list. I also like Aluna, [name_f]Willa[/name_f] & [name_f]Ivy[/name_f].

I like [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_u]Wren[/name_u] from your list. For [name_m]Fox[/name_m]'s sister I think [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] or [name_f]Willa[/name_f] would be great.

[name_f]Isla[/name_f] - as much as i love [name_f]Isla[/name_f], i find it veeery popular in the uk!
[name_f]Willa[/name_f] - gaining popularity

Thanks for all your lovely suggestions and responses. It’s great to see so many new ideas. We particularly liked [name_u]Everly[/name_u], and have never considered it before.

In the end though, it made us realise that we are both really happy with [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]! We love [name_f]Juno[/name_f] (and will probably use this mostly), with the option of the more formal, but still cool and distinctive, [name_u]Juniper[/name_u].

Plus, as suggested, [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] & [name_m]Fox[/name_m] is a very cute pairing!

Now onto middle names…!

We actually really like [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] [name_u]Wren[/name_u].

What do you think pairs well with [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]? Our surname starts with L and is quite short (5 letters).

[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] [name_u]Everly[/name_u] would be gorgeous.
