[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are expecting our first baby this year, a girl, and we are so so excited!
Both of our families are southern: his is from NC and mine are from [name_f]Louisiana[/name_f]. We really want to have a name that connects to our roots but isn’t too popular. [name_u]Baby[/name_u] will have his last name, [name_u]Cameron[/name_u].
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are: [name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] (Nell/Nellie) [name_f]Frances[/name_f]. I also LOVE [name_f]Antha[/name_f], but haven’t really found a middle name that goes well with it.
[name_f]My[/name_f] hubby’s favorites are: [name_f]Robyn[/name_f] [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], [name_u]Mica[/name_u] [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u]. He’s really rooting for the first.
Please, please, please help us out! Any suggestions with these names or even new ones welcome, we’re completely torn!
Thank you all in advance<333
Congrats on your pregnancy! Just to say first you may need to remove the expectation of there being one perfect name - it’s much more likely there will be a handful of beautiful names (and that’s what we did, took five we both loved and that flowed with the last name into the hospital/delivery). Or get it down to a shortlist and start testing then out - beware that adult names (eg Esther) can often feel hard to use than cutest/diminutive names (eg Luna, Ellie etc) once the baby arrives so try to keep in mind that the baby will be an adult (or over age 10 when cutesy names are ideal) for most of her life.
As for your names, I really like your taste and they’ll all age very well! If I could play around with your names and list them roughly in order, mine would be:
Esther Frances (May too common/expected, these two of my fave names!)
Frances Cornelia
Cornelia Frances
Robyn Zelda (or maybe Robyn Cornelia!)
June Isobel
Isobel June
Zelda Robyn (part of me feels like if you’re using Zelda, you might as well pop in top spot!)
Sybil Estelle (Jean feels like a filler - would only use if an honour name, downside of Sybil is I don’t like Sybbie)
I don’t like the flow of Mica Esther (don’t think they work together). Would go Micah Joelle. I don’t like Antha myself, prefer Martha, Xanthe, Astrid or Aneira.
I think you’re on the right track! Am sure you’ll pick a lovely name. Men tend to like the more casual, boyish / unisex names like Robyn - and seem to shy away from super flowery. I wonder if Cornelia will be a hard sell but maybe he has to give up Robyn in return…?
Actually I think Robyn Camer0n might be a bit too masculine and repetitive in sound for me, and Cornelia Camer0n is great but possibly a tad showbiz for some - I really like it but can see why both of these might not be the winners. I like Esther, June, Frances, Isobel (and Edith) with your last name.
I like [name_u]June[/name_u] and [name_f]Robyn[/name_f] the best, but I have a more “boring” taste in names lol. I think those are the most wearable, although I love the sound of all of them!
You have a lovely set of ideas - [name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] and [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] are charming! I like [name_f]Robyn[/name_f] [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] too!
I love [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] and [name_u]Robin[/name_u] [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] (this spelling of Robin). Maybe [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] [name_u]Robin[/name_u] or [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]?
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] (love everything about this)
[name_u]June[/name_u] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] (this is my fave spelling of Isobel) ~ [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] would be equally lovely, too!
[name_f]Robyn[/name_f] (pretty & spring-like, & due for revival)
[name_f]Antha[/name_f] (such a great & unique name! You’re right that it’s tricky with middles, though, as it has a tendency to sound like a mispronunciation of “Aunt” - e.g. [name_f]Antha[/name_f] Frances)
Personally, I’m not wild about [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] (can’t get past “corn”), [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] (I find the Z a bit harsh), or [name_u]Mica[/name_u] (sounds like the type of rock). [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is fine, but not my style.
I love all of your sets! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite from yours is [name_u]June[/name_u] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] and for his I like [name_f]Robyn[/name_f] [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] the best! What if you combined them? I like [name_f]Robyn[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] a lot, and [name_f]Robyn[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] sounds just amazing!
Thank you for all this amazing advice! I love your ideas, [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] is so good! I agree about [name_f]Robyn[/name_f], it sounds quite heavy with our last name. [name_u]Will[/name_u] definitely keep your suggestions in mind, thanks again!
These are great, thank you! [name_u]Abilene[/name_u] is great, and I love the option for [name_u]Abbie[/name_u] as well. And [name_f]Luella[/name_f], wow! I personally prefer the [name_f]Louella[/name_f] spelling, but its so so so good. Thank you!!!
Would you consider [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] rather than [name_f]Antha[/name_f], or it’s really only [name_f]Antha[/name_f] you love?
Being 3 syllables I feel like [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] opens up more middle name options, as it kind of flows differently.
[name_f]My[/name_f] faves from your lists are [name_u]June[/name_u] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Robyn[/name_f] Zelda… and I didn’t think I liked the name [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] much but actually [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is really sweet.
But I also totally think [name_f]Antha[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] or [name_f]Antha[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] would work (and be quite stunning!), maybe [name_f]Antha[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] or [name_f]Antha[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], or [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f].
