I’m due next month and still cannot find “the name”. We have three names we really like, but I can’t quite commit.
[name_f]My[/name_f] two daughters are: [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Paige[/name_f] [name_f]Maxine[/name_f]
The three names we agree on for this baby are: [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] or [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f].
Any opinions on which would go with our sibset, or suggestions for names not on our list would be great. We like shorter names that aren’t too popular.
I think [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] fits best, followed by [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is the only one that sounds mismatchy.
Not sure if you’re open to this, but I would spell the first name [name_f]Lila[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] if it’s not short for [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]. I think it would be the more intuitive spelling for most people and she’d have to spell it out loud less often, plus [name_f]Lila[/name_f] just looks a bit more grown-up to me. (I love [name_f]Lila[/name_f]!)
I love the previous suggestions of [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] and [name_f]Stella[/name_f], too. A few others:
I agree with the others [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] is a perfect fir with your girls’ names. I like that all three names end in different sounds. I think [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] are a bit matchy.
Have you considered [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]? In my opinion, [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] fits best with your other daughters’ names, but [name_f]Marie[/name_f] gives her a fun “sisterly” similarity with [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] in that it starts with “Ma” and ends in “e”.
I have been trying to figure out how to spell it. I was concerned without the H people would pronounce it Lill-uh instead of Lie-luh. You don’t think that would be a problem?
I have been trying to convince my husband of that same thing He is not very fond of the name [name_f]Marie[/name_f] and prefers our other two middle name options.
I don’t think so, myself. I remember as a kid reading the Sweet [name_f]Valley[/name_f] High books - there was a character named [name_f]Lila[/name_f] whose name I always pronounced LYE-la.
I don’t think the ‘h’ would make any difference to my pronunciation of the name. Also I just asked my husband, who is decidedly not a name nerd, how he would pronounce [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] and he said LYE-la for both.
[name_f]Lilah[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Dawn[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]
(yes, I changed the order of your names, just to see if it looks nice)
It would be a good poll. I only thought the H so people would associate it with [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] and say it correctly if that makes sense. Thanks again.
