[name]Hi[/name] everyone! I’m back after 3 yrs looking for more help. You all helped me picked the name [name]Troy[/name] for my second born. Now we’re trying to conceive baby #3 and are thinking about girl names.
We have the name [name]Dean[/name] picked out for a boy. Right now we have [name]Cora[/name], [name]Eve[/name] ([name]Evie[/name]), [name]Ivy[/name], and [name]Beatrice[/name] ([name]Bea[/name], [name]Betty[/name]) picked out. We like short, classic, yet not commonly heard names. We try to stay away from top 100 names. I know [name]Cora[/name] is on its way up. It was our girl name 3 years ago and wasn’t as popular then.
So, any other ideas? Comments on the names we have picked out?
You’ve started a kind of a powerful theme there, [name]Rex[/name] obviously means king and [name]Troy[/name] is the ancient Anatolian city. So I’d ditch [name]Ivy[/name], it simply doesn’t have much substance in comparison. I in particular like [name]Cora[/name] and [name]Beatrice[/name], they both have lots of history (as Greek [name]Goddess[/name] and [name]Dante[/name]'s muse/love). [name]Eve[/name] is good too.
So even though [name]Rex[/name] and [name]Troy[/name] are traditional names, their not classical within their style. Whereas the girl’s names [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Ivy[/name] and possibly [name]Eve[/name] are too feminine and the names don’t have a kick like [name]Rex[/name] and [name]Troy[/name]. However I think [name]Cora[/name] works even though she could become to popular for your liking, [name]Cora[/name] does have the attitude that [name]Rex[/name] and [name]Troy[/name] have. [name]Rex[/name], [name]Troy[/name] and [name]Cora[/name] look visually brilliant together along with sounding gorgeous together.
I think [name]Eve[/name] fits the best. You already have 2 one-syllable names, and have a one-syllable name picked out for a boy. I think it would be a cool theme!
I’ve actually had [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Roxana[/name], and [name]Mila[/name] on my long list. I took [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Mila[/name] off because of their rise in popularity.
I’m a pain in that if I know someone with the name or a child with the name I pass it up. So [name]Claire[/name], [name]Lilia[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], and [name]Alice[/name] are out.
The boys have a one syllable first name followed by traditional two syllable middle names. [name]Rex[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] and [name]Troy[/name] [name]Michael[/name]. I thought [name]Cora[/name] [name]Ann[/name] sounded good with their names. I have to admit though I really like the sound of [name]Ivy[/name] and [name]Eve[/name].
I just looked up the meaning of [name]Iris[/name] and it is absolutely beautiful! I’ll definitely run that one past my husband.
I kept the boys names short and strong. But I know as a child I would have loved to have had a girlie name that could be shortened into a nickname. That would be why I added [name]Beatrice[/name] to the mix.
I also really like the name [name]Carys[/name] but the DH tries to stick with Greek or Latin derived names.
I think strong but short is the way to go for [name]Rex[/name] and [name]Troy[/name]'s sister. Therefore, [name]Eve[/name] would be my pick from your short list followed by [name]Cora[/name].
Ok, I feel silly! Upon further research I’ve found that [name]Carys[/name] spelled [name]Charis[/name] is in fact a Greek name. It means “grace of God” and in Greek mythology a [name]Charis[/name] (Χά”ις) is one of several Charites, goddesses of charm, beauty, nature, human creativity and fertility. In [name]Roman[/name] mythology they were known as the Gratiae, the “Graces”.
