Hello!
I hope everyone is doing well!
I’m currently writing a coming of age/YA story, setting is [name_m]Germany[/name_m], 2010s, written in [name_m]German[/name_m].
I know that names used in [name_m]Germany[/name_m] are pronounced differently than in [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking countries and that might influence your opinion on the names but I just thought I’d give it a shot to see what you think and if you have any ideas.
The MC is Leonie, nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and she is the middle sister, her younger sister is Sophie but with the older sister I’m drawing a blank…right now she is [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f], nn [name_f]Magda[/name_f] but that doesn’t feel right…
What I’m searching for is a name that fits nicely with the other two sisters, something that feels solid and somehow timeless and not over the top since I feel that would have been important to their [name_m]German[/name_m], middle class parents in the naming process.
It can be longer/have more syllables or be frilly but then it would need to have a good nn.
(I always name sibling characters how I think their parents would have done but take into account that they can chose nn that fit their personalities, in this case she is a carefree, self-confident and loud/boisterous character, kind of tomboyish so a short nn reflecting that might suit her.)
I went through the top names of her birth year like a thousand times but nothing really sticks…
The ones I liked the most and considered were:
Marlene but couldn’t come up with a good nn because she doesn’t seem like a [name_f]Leni[/name_f] or [name_f]Marli[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f], nn [name_u]Caro[/name_u]
[name_f]Verena[/name_f], no nn
I’m grateful for any idea or new nn’s to add to the names!
Thank you for your help!
