My husband and I will be TTC our third within the next year. I do not have to review boys’ names because we already know that he would be named after my husband, making him… yes, [name]Morris[/name] [name]Alfred[/name] ______ the V.
There is no struggle with naming him after my husband. I know exactly how my he feels about being the fourth, and I am totally on board. However, I get a bit confused when I try to think about what I would call the little baby boy.
I call my husband [name]Morris[/name] and his family calls him [name]Mo[/name] (which I do not care for). When he was little (and now) his dad goes by an unrelated nickname.
I am concerned about a son being confused about his name. I am also worried about confusion around the house, yelling for “[name]Morris[/name]!” and having two answer.
Since I know that some thirds (III) go by [name]Trip[/name] (for triple) I thought that I may be able to call him [name]Quint[/name]/[name]Quinton[/name]/[name]Quintus[/name]… but, that isn’t his name. Another idea was to call him [name]Morrison[/name] (like son of [name]Morris[/name], eh?) thus being called [name]Morris[/name] outside of the house not so odd.
What about going by his MN? I met an [name]Alfred[/name] recently who went by [name]Freddie[/name], and I thought that was just the cutest! I love [name]Freddie[/name]. I know [name]Alfie[/name] is fairly common in the UK, too, and [name]Al[/name] could work, too. Or you could use [name]Rhys[/name]/[name]Reese[/name] as a stretch from the end of [name]Morris[/name]?
You could nn [name]Morris[/name] [name]Moss[/name], maybe? I like it, and I think it’s different enough from [name]Mo[/name] not to be too confusing. I also like [name]Alfred[/name]!
If you were thinking [name]Morrison[/name] you could take it one step further and call him [name]Sonny[/name]. I like the suggestion of [name]Moss[/name].
Or take the ending of [name]MorRIS[/name] and call him [name]Rhys[/name]?
[name]Love[/name] the idea of him going by [name]Morrison[/name]! Fantastic! [name]Love[/name] the suggestion of furthering that to [name]Sonny[/name] as a name of endearment.
I know you said you didn’t like [name]Quint[/name], but I really like the idea of [name]Quinn[/name]. My parents named me [name]Theresa[/name] with the intention of calling me [name]Tressa[/name] and there was never any confusion on my part growing up.
[name]Quint[/name], [name]Quince[/name], [name]Quincy[/name], or [name]Quinton[/name] are all the usual ones, but maybe you could do something with the V instead? Like call him MAV, for his initials?
I have a friend who is a [name]Benjamin[/name] ___ IV and plans to pass on his name to a boy. He plans to nickname his son V (“Vee”) like the actual numeral. I think that’s kind of cool; it reminds me a little of [name]Van[/name] or [name]Vince[/name].
Possible nicknames:
More
[name]Mose[/name]
[name]Em[/name] (“M”)
M.A.
M.V.
Or his mn:
[name]Alfred[/name]
[name]Al[/name]
[name]Fred[/name]/[name]Freddie[/name]
Or you could call him [name]Morris[/name] and call you husband Daddy, Hun, [name]Babe[/name], Schnookums, etc. (just around the house).
Or wait until the baby demonstrates an interesting characteristic or talent and nickname him by that.
