I’m really struggling with names right now - girl names specifically. (as a side note, our daughter is [name]Ava[/name] [name]Noelle[/name])

My husband & I have pretty much all but agreed on our boy name.

But girl names are a huge struggle - I come up with name after name, only to have those names crossed off by my husband & he doesn’t really come up with any suggestions.

There are a quite a few names I like & love…but not necessarily the right one - usually because they are too common or because they are just not “quite” what I’m searching for. I will give examples, so maybe that gives a better idea of what I would like, in hopes someone can suggest just even [name]ONE[/name] name that will end up being “the one” I’m searching for & the one my husband can agree to!!! Thanks for any suggestions.

Names I like, but are too common for me:

By the way - I’d love to find a Welsh name - or Scottish or Irish but am open to any origin, if it’s “the one”

Hm, some thoughts…

  1. Working first from the names your husband likes (where the compromise lies…). IMO Isla and Avery are much too similar in sound to Ava to work. (I imagine Avery was on the list just to give an impression of his taste anyway?) Vivienne shows up on enough lists that I think it looks like the strongest middle choice: you like it, your husband likes it, and it made the MN list! Violet looks like a runner-up for the middle slot since it landed on two of those three lists. So as far as compromising with his taste, I think Vivienne or Violet should be at the top of the MN list. Juliet is similar stylistically, so if he likes it, that would be a great option. Blue/Bleu seems very celeb (Alicia Silverstone, Beyonce…); not my pick.

  2. I think Arlo looks masculine and Arlow looks a bit incomplete: have you considered Harlow or Marlow? Marley is a cute nn, and Marlow Vivienne is lovely. I also love Talia (or Thalia) from your consideration list; Talia Violet would be a gorgeous sister for Ava Noelle (OMG, Talia Violet and Ava Noelle! Love!). Cerys seems really different stylistically from Ava, so it’s my least favorite of the options here. That said, the similar Carys feels a little more…approachable? Or in line with Ava?

  3. I like your “love” list, but don’t feel any quite work. Again I think Isla is too similar to Ava; Emrys feels very masculine; and Elowen is gorgeous, but stylistically different from Ava. (If the difference doesn’t bother you, I love Elowen Violet…)

Oh, and on one last thought, I wouldn’t discard some of the ones you like but find popular. Besides Gwyneth Paltrow, hardly anyone uses that name (it’s ranked in the 900s in the US). Similarly Gwendolyn is only in the 500s. I think they are totally doable!

I think [name]Vivienne[/name] would be perfect with [name]Ava[/name]! I also love [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Violet[/name].

It seems like you both agree on [name]Isla[/name]. It’s a little close to [name]Ava[/name], but not too much. [name]Isla[/name] is lovely!

My fiance is of welsh descent, and his family tree is full of fantastic names. I especially love the welsh names [name]Bryn[/name] and [name]Eleri[/name] (perhaps spelled [name]Ellery[/name]).

Well, I also like the name [name]Marlow[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] which sounds so good to me and I would recommend you this name from totally agreed with ellenelle. You should be go for it, people will be really like this name.

We have really similar tastes- I love [name]Carys[/name], [name]Verity[/name], [name]Talia[/name], [name]Isla[/name], [name]Elowen[/name]. I think [name]Elowen[/name] [name]Violet[/name] or [name]Isla[/name] [name]Hazel[/name] would be pretty.

I think [name]Talia[/name] sounds gorgeous for [name]Ava[/name]'s little sister, personally. They both seem to have that fun, bubbly sound to it. If [name]Violet[/name] wasn’t too popular for you, it would also be a great name to use as it flows well with big sister’s name. [name]Talia[/name] [name]Violet[/name] is pretty, and it incorporates a name that you like, and one that your husband enjoys as well. I know you said [name]Violet[/name] was too popular for you, but because your husband likes it, I thought you could consider it as your daughter’s middle name.

It looks like [name]Vivienne[/name] is on both of your lists, why not start from there? Either dedicate it to the middle or first and then work on names to go with it from there? [name]Vivienne[/name] is a stunning choice and I think since it’s on both of your lists it should be a clear contender.
