What are names that are predominately given to/associated with one gender, however, the most prominent person with that name is someone of a different gender?
I was just thinking how in my country, the name [name_u]Peyton[/name_u] is mostly given to girls. However, the most famous/relevant [name_u]Peyton[/name_u] in pop culture is [name_u]Peyton[/name_u] [name_m]Manning[/name_m]…who identifies as a male.
Another example is how in my country (I’m emphasizing this because I’m sure my examples may not be true in other places), [name_u]Robin[/name_u]/[name_f]Robyn[/name_f] was statistically girl’s name (despite the masculine origin). However, the most famous/relevant [name_m]Robins[/name_m] in pop culture are the fictional boys: [name_u]Robin[/name_u] from Batman and [name_u]Robin[/name_u] Hood. ([name_m]Even[/name_m] in the news this week, the only [name_u]Robin[/name_u] in the headlines was [name_u]Robin[/name_u] Thicke…a guy).
So, I was wondering are there any other examples where the general public tends to give a name to one gender, however, the most famous/relevant person with that name is a different gender?
