[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all-
I posted a while back about needing help with our soon to arrive baby boy’s name and got some wonderful suggestions, and hoping you can help me out as we get even closer.
So…first child (DD) is [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. Totally suits her.
DS arrives in 5 weeks, and we’ve now narrowed it down to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Charles[/name_m], or [name_m]Jack[/name_m].
Here are my concerns on each…
[name_u]Love[/name_u] the nn [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], worry a little he’ll get [name_m]Chaz[/name_m] or [name_m]Chuck[/name_m] thrown at him at some point but…whatever.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]- love this name, and nns [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. Only concern is [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] might not age well and I’m not sold on Ted.
[name_m]Jack[/name_m]- strong and solid, matches sister’s name but doesn’t have that “it” factor for me. Great name but not in love.
Would love some advice, particularly on the names going together…
Thanks!!
Hello! [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is beautiful! I can see [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] together, as well as [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m].
My favorite with [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], as they share three letters, and they have the same style. I wouldn’t worry about [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] not aging well. If you call him [name_u]Theo[/name_u] from a very young age, he most likely won’t go by [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]. Or maybe [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] can be your own special nn for him?
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Theo[/name_u])
I’d choose [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] ([name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u].) I think those names would make a great sibling pair.
I actually really like [name_m]Jack[/name_m] with [name_f]Cora[/name_f], both being short and solid.
If [name_m]Jack[/name_m] doesn’t have the “wow” factor for you, scratch it. You have two other wonderful choices here and you need to be in love with the name you choose. Bonus suggestions which are like [name_m]Jack[/name_m] in sound and feel but perhaps a bit more exciting: [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_u]Joss[/name_u], [name_u]Jem[/name_u], [name_m]Jake[/name_m], [name_m]Jago[/name_m], [name_m]George[/name_m]?
I think both [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Charles[/name_m] go really nicely with [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. Personally, I’d lean towards [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] so as to have a different initial for each child. However, [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_m]Charles[/name_m]/[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] start with different sounds despite sharing an initial letter, so it doesn’t feel too matchy-matchy to me.
Re. nicknames, I think your [name_m]Charles[/name_m] is much more likely to get [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] than [name_m]Chaz[/name_m] or [name_m]Chuck[/name_m], especially if you routinely use [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] as a nickname. [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] are both great nicknames for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], and though I agree that [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is quite sweet and childish, he can always switch to [name_u]Theo[/name_u] later on. I personally like Ted, but if you don’t then [name_u]Theo[/name_u] seems like a more intuitive shortening for later on anyway.
Best of luck!
I also like [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] ([name_u]Theo[/name_u] or [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]) together. I think I’d just nickname him [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and not have to worry about [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] or how well it will age.
I think you should choose the one you like the most regardless the nicknames. There is always the possibility of a name have a nickname you don’t like. [name_m]Just[/name_m] call him what you want him to be called and most people will follow… You can always “correct” them.
With [name_f]Cora[/name_f] I like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] ([name_u]Theo[/name_u]) the most.
Another vote for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] nicknamed [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. If you introduce him as [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and call him [name_u]Theo[/name_u], that is what others will call him. I wouldn’t use [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] when he is young and then try to change it as suggested above, because once others know a person by a certain name, it is very difficult to start calling them something else.
