Name help for baby boy due in mid-Feb

[name]Hi[/name], Berries, my husband and I are in need of some help!

It looks like we will be adopting a baby boy due in mid-February.

Older sister is [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Amelia[/name], called [name]Kate[/name]. Top picks for a first name are [name]Henry[/name], [name]Miles[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name] (called [name]Theo[/name]). I’m leaning towards [name]Henry[/name], but my husband likes the names pretty equally. Last name starts with an L, has two syllables, and ends with an ‘ay’ sound. For a future son, we’d use one of the two first name picks we aren’t using now. For a future daughter, we like [name]Caroline[/name] or [name]Margaret[/name] (just to give you an idea of what a sib set might look like in the future and our overall taste in names). Our taste is generally classic, but we also like surname-type middles, particularly for boys.

The baby’s birth family is Marshallese and one thing we have in common with them is our religious faith. The Marshallese celebrate Gospel [name]Day[/name] every year in remembrance of the missionaries who brought the Gospel to the islands, so we’d like to choose a name that honors a key figure in Christianity in the [name]Marshall[/name] Islands.

We did a little research and found that [name]George[/name] [name]Pierson[/name] and [name]Edward[/name] Toppin [name]Doane[/name] were the first missionaries to the [name]Marshall[/name] Islands. [name]Hiram[/name] [name]Bingham[/name] [name]Jr[/name]. was a missionary who spearheaded missionary efforts in the [name]Pacific[/name] Islands as a whole (like his father before him) and dropped off [name]Pierson[/name] and [name]Doane[/name], who traveled with him on a vessel called the [name]Morning[/name] [name]Star[/name]. [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Galen[/name] [name]Snow[/name] was the person who did the bulk of the Bible translation. [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Morris[/name] Pease led efforts to train Marshallese religious leaders.

Combos we like so far are [name]Henry[/name] [name]Bingham[/name], [name]Miles[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name], and [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Edmund[/name]. Offshoots we’ve considered for middle names are [name]Bennett[/name] (from [name]Benjamin[/name]) and [name]Edison[/name] (from [name]Edward[/name]).

Please suggest name combos using our first name picks and names from our research (or name offshoots that we could pair with one of our first names), and let us know what you think of our pairings. We feel like we’ve got some decent combos but aren’t sold on any of them just yet. Offshoots might be names that are similar, “son of” names, names that have a similar meaning or association, etc. We’re pretty generous in terms of what we consider a related name. : ) We want something linked to one of the missionaries to the Marshallese, but we also want to end up with a nice-sounding name that we love.

Can’t wait to hear your brilliant suggestions!

I think [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name] go best with [name]Catherine[/name]. [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Edmund[/name]! [name]Henry[/name] [name]Bingham[/name] is lovely but I also like [name]Henry[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name]. You say you like surname names, so is [name]Marshall[/name] an idea? [name]Henry[/name] [name]Marshall[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Marshall[/name] are nice.

Other combos: [name]Henry[/name] [name]Edward[/name], [name]Henry[/name] [name]Benedict[/name], [name]Henry[/name] [name]Pierson[/name], [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Pierre[/name], [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Bennett[/name], [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Maurice[/name]

Good luck

Thanks for responding, charlieandperry1!

Our first thought upon looking at our list was [name]Henry[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name], but I was concerned that [name]HENry[/name] [name]BENjamin[/name] might be a little too repetitious in terms of the EN sound. I’d love to hear what others think about that. If the repetition isn’t too much, that might be a top contender for us, so I’m glad you suggested it.

I did consider using [name]Marshall[/name], but thought that might be a little too superficial, and perhaps problematic if we end up having multiple kids with the same heritage in the future.

[name]Henry[/name] [name]Edward[/name] sounds nice, as does [name]Henry[/name] [name]Edmund[/name], but with our last name it just makes for HEL (haha), and even without the extra L my husband says mns starting with an E are out for [name]Henry[/name]. [name]MEL[/name] and TEL still have the okay, though.

[name]Henry[/name] [name]Pierson[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Bennett[/name] are definitely contenders.

Your top three boy names in full are so great you can’t go wrong. I really love [name]Kate[/name] and [name]Theo[/name], but [name]Miles[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] is incredibly strong.
I also like [name]Pierson[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] ([name]Piers[/name] or [name]Pierce[/name]) with [name]Kate[/name]…hmm. [name]Henry[/name] [name]Bingham[/name] is a fab combo.

I would add [name]Miles[/name] [name]Edward[/name], [name]Henry[/name] [name]Doane[/name], and the name Snowdon. Good luck!

Oooohhhh, [name]Miles[/name] [name]Edward[/name] is a good one! Thanks, notcinnamon!

Your name choices are beautiful! I really love them. I think they will make an amazing sibset. Sorry, I don’t really have any suggestions beyond what’s been said above! If I were you, I’d go with [name]Henry[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] or [name]Miles[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] (I don’t think the “en” sound is too much in [name]Henry[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name]). Good luck!

[name]Glad[/name] to hear that you are so confident in my “brilliant” suggestions.

Congratulations on the new member of your family! I truly enjoy your mission tribute idea. As for your names, I personally like [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name]. [name]Henry[/name] [name]Bingham[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Edmund[/name] are great combos. I also like [name]Christian[/name], [name]Pierson[/name] and [name]Galen[/name] for mn. [name]Henry[/name] [name]Christian[/name] or [name]Galen[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Pierson[/name] could work for your little man.

Also concerning [name]Henry[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name]. You could find a mn that flowed better but even so I still think it’s a good, strong name.

I think [name]Henry[/name] fits best with [name]Kate[/name], [name]Theodore[/name] with [name]Catherine[/name]. [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Edmund[/name] is the best boy’s name I’ve ever seen on this site, and I love [name]Theo[/name] (however trendy it gets). Superb!

Really like all 3, but [name]Henry[/name] fits the best.

I’d love to hear other suggestions for mns for [name]Henry[/name] and more honest opinions on [name]Henry[/name] [name]Bingham[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name]. Still not confident about the name [name]Bingham[/name] or the double EN sounds in [name]Henry[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name]. I feel really good about [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Edmund[/name] and [name]Miles[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] as combos but don’t want to give up on [name]Henry[/name] just yet.
