Name help needed!

We’re expecting our first and as we’re not finding out the gender it’s causing naming headaches galore! If it’s a boy, we want to use the middle name [name]Oscar[/name] (after grandpa - haven’t ruled it out as a first name). No idea on middle names for girls. Please post your thoughts on the following, and any suggestions would be welcomed! Our surname is [name]Perry[/name] and we want something uncommon but not ‘yoonique’!

[name]Evelyn[/name] (nn [name]Evie[/name])

[name]Milo[/name] (unlikely as DS is Australian and this is the name of a chocolate drink over there!)
[name]Evan[/name] (love but [name]SIL[/name]'s son has same name)

[name]Evelyn[/name] (nn [name]Evie[/name]) - This is a cute nickname, but I prefer the name as a middle name.
[name]Bella[/name] - I would prefer a longer, less trendy version, like [name]Arabella[/name].
[name]Stella[/name] - This is cute; I like [name]Stella[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Perry[/name], personally.
[name]Estella[/name] - I love it! More interesting that [name]Stella[/name], but has the same meaning and feminine edge. [name]Estella[/name] [name]Marie[/name] [name]Perry[/name] would be pretty!
[name]Rosa[/name] - I prefer [name]Rosaleen[/name], and I don’t love names with [name]Rose[/name].
[name]Helena[/name] - Pretty! [name]Helena[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Perry[/name] is gorgeous.
[name]Cleo[/name] - Reminds me of a dog name or something; don’t like it!
[name]Elsa[/name]/[name]Elsie[/name] - I like this as a nickname for [name]Elisabeth[/name].
[name]Maeve[/name] -Would be a nice middle name…

Suggestions - GIRLS - [name]Evangeline[/name], [name]Evangelia[/name], [name]Arabella[/name], [name]Isabel[/name], [name]Estee[/name], [name]Rosaleen[/name], [name]Rosalia[/name], [name]Rosamund[/name], [name]Heidi[/name], [name]Heloise[/name], [name]Clementine[/name], [name]Calliope[/name], [name]Elisabeth[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Elspeth[/name], [name]Muriel[/name], [name]Magdalene[/name], [name]Marguerite[/name]

[name]Theo[/name] - Like as a nickname for [name]Theodore[/name], and [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Perry[/name] sounds quite dignified!
[name]Milo[/name] (unlikely as DS is Australian and this is the name of a chocolate drink over there!) - I don’t love, but I don’t hate it…
[name]Oscar[/name] - Cute, especially in the middle. I wouldn’t be bold enough to use it as a first name ([name]Oscar[/name] the Grouch on [name]Sesame[/name] [name]Street[/name])!
[name]Nate[/name] - I far prefer the full [name]Nathaniel[/name].
[name]Rex[/name] - This seems like a dog name to me, sorry!
[name]Jasper[/name] - This seems to be getting rather popular, but I just can’t latch onto it! It seems harsh and almost spooky.
[name]Evan[/name] (love but [name]SIL[/name]'s son has same name) - I don’t personally care for this name, and a relative has used it.

Suggestions - BOYS - [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Thaddeus[/name], [name]Tobin[/name], [name]Tobias[/name], [name]Milton[/name], [name]Miles[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Otis[/name], [name]Othello[/name], [name]Nathaniel[/name], [name]Archer[/name], [name]Augustus[/name], [name]Julian[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]James[/name], [name]Devin[/name], [name]Ethan[/name], [name]Elias[/name]

[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Amelie[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name]

[name]Bella[/name]-- seems a little insubstantial to me… what about [name]Arabella[/name], [name]Mirabelle[/name], or [name]Isabelle[/name]?

[name]Elsa[/name]/[name]Elsie[/name]-- too nicknamey. What about [name]Elisabeth[/name] nn [name]Elsie[/name]?

[name]Maeve[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name] [name]Aurelia[/name]

[name]Theo[/name]-- I love it as a nickname for [name]Theodore[/name]

[name]Evan[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]

My favorites are [name]Maeve[/name], [name]Rosa[/name], [name]Cleo[/name], and [name]Helena[/name], and [name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Milo[/name] for the boys. Here are some others you might like:

[name]Evelyn[/name] (nn [name]Evie[/name]): This is pretty popular, at #55, which may or may not bother you.

You may also like [name]Genevieve[/name] (nn [name]Evie[/name]), [name]Evangeline[/name], [name]Vivian[/name]/[name]Vivienne[/name], and [name]Ivy[/name].

[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Camille[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Frances[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Kate[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Margot[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name]

[name]Bella[/name]: I think it’s pretty, but with [name]Isabella[/name] as the #2 name and [name]Ella[/name] at #19, I guess it feels a bit overused to me.

You may also like [name]Annabelle[/name], [name]Arabella[/name], [name]Mirabelle[/name], [name]Marielle[/name], and [name]Estelle[/name].

[name]Bella[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Bella[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Bella[/name] [name]Katherine[/name]
[name]Bella[/name] [name]Vivian[/name]

[name]Stella[/name]: I think this is pretty, and it feels fresher to me than [name]Bella[/name].

[name]Stella[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name]/[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Stella[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Stella[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Stella[/name] [name]Katherine[/name]
[name]Stella[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]

[name]Estella[/name]: I think this is beautiful…

[name]Estella[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Estella[/name] [name]Margot[/name]

[name]Rosa[/name]: I love [name]Rose[/name], [name]Rosalind[/name], Rosabel, and [name]Rosalie[/name] (but not [name]Rosalie[/name] with [name]Perry[/name]) more than [name]Rosa[/name], but I do think it’s a sweet name.

[name]Rosa[/name] Beatrce
[name]Rosa[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Rosa[/name] [name]Juliette[/name]/[name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Rosa[/name] [name]Mirabelle[/name]

[name]Helena[/name]: I really, really love this name, with the only drawback being that I’ve heard it pronounced as [name]Helen[/name]-uh (how I pronounce it), Heh-[name]LAY[/name]-nuh, and Heh-[name]LEE[/name]-nuh. I think it’s beautiful, and love the [name]Lena[/name] and [name]Nell[/name] nicknames.

[name]Helena[/name] [name]Camille[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Kate[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Louise[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Simone[/name]

[name]Cleo[/name]: I think that [name]Cleo[/name] is a great name, and I also really like it as a nickname for [name]Clementine[/name]. I think that some of the longer first names have a better flow with [name]Perry[/name], though.

[name]Cleo[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Cleo[/name] [name]Jessamine[/name]
[name]Cleo[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Cleo[/name] [name]Rosalind[/name].
[name]Elsa[/name]/[name]Elsie[/name]: I like some of your other names more, but I do think that [name]Elsa[/name] is pretty.

You may also like [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], and [name]Anneliese[/name].

[name]Elsa[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Elsa[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]

[name]Maeve[/name]: I think that [name]Maeve[/name] is beautiful, but I think some of the other names work better with [name]Perry[/name].

You may also like [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Finola[/name], or [name]Aveline[/name].

[name]Maeve[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name] [name]Louisa[/name]

[name]Theo[/name]: I really love (seriously love) the name [name]Theodore[/name], nn [name]Theo[/name], but [name]Theo[/name] on its own feels like a nickname for me.

You may also like: [name]Leo[/name], [name]Milo[/name], and [name]Arlo[/name].

I’ll list middles in case you don’t go with [name]Oscar[/name].

[name]Theo[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]
[name]Theo[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Theo[/name] [name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Theo[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Theo[/name] [name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Theo[/name] [name]Samuel[/name]

[name]Theodore[/name] [name]August[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Miles[/name]

[name]Milo[/name]: If he doesn’t like it, he may like [name]Leo[/name], [name]Arlo[/name], or [name]Hugo[/name]. I love this name!

[name]Milo[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Milo[/name] [name]Everett[/name]
[name]Milo[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Milo[/name] [name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Milo[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Milo[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name]
[name]Milo[/name] [name]Xavier[/name]

[name]Oscar[/name]: I think [name]Oscar[/name] is a very cool name.

[name]Oscar[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name] [name]Maxfield[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name] [name]Phineas[/name] (you may not want the PP initials, though)
[name]Oscar[/name] [name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name] [name]William[/name]

[name]Nate[/name]: I love [name]Nate[/name] as a nickname for [name]Nathaniel[/name], but on its own, it doesn’t feel substantial enough to me.

[name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]August[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Edward[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Franklin[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Jude[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Oscar[/name]

[name]Rex[/name]: Because [name]Rex[/name] reminds me of the dinosaur and anorexia, I like some of your other choices better.

You may also like [name]Felix[/name], [name]Dexter[/name], [name]Maxwell[/name], or [name]Xavier[/name].

[name]Rex[/name] [name]Donovan[/name]

[name]Jasper[/name]: I love [name]Jasper[/name], but [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Perry[/name] sounds pretty p heavy when I say it out loud.

You may also like:

[name]Jasper[/name] [name]Augustin[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name] [name]Elias[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name] [name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name] [name]William[/name]

(I’d avoid M middles with [name]Jasper[/name], because when I see [name]Jasper[/name] M___ and say it out loud, the M attaches to the “sper” in [name]Jasper[/name] to sound like “sperm.”)

(I listed U.S. popularity statitstics before I read that you’re in Australia…Sorry about that!)

Best wishes to you!

[name]Love[/name] [name]Oscar[/name] for a boy. I don’t think you’d regret using it as a first name.

For a girl [name]Helena[/name] or [name]Elsa[/name]. I’m thinking [name]Elsa[/name] for my #3 who is due in [name]January[/name]. We like [name]Elsie[/name] as a nn.

GIRLS: my 2 favorite are
[name]Evelyn[/name] (nn [name]Evie[/name])

BOYS: my 2 favorite are
[name]Nate[/name] but as a nn for [name]Nathan[/name] or [name]Nathaniel[/name]

Of your choices I like [name]Estella[/name] best, then [name]Helena[/name] and [name]Stella[/name]. I agree with the poster who suggested a longer name with the nn [name]Bella[/name] (ie: [name]Isabella[/name] or the less trendy [name]Arabella[/name]). I really like [name]Estella[/name], though…the name always makes me think of “Great Expectations.”

For boys I love the name [name]Nate[/name]…[name]Theo[/name] would be second for me.

Best of luck!

Thanks so much everyone! [name]Oscar[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name] (nn [name]Theo[/name]) are probably my two fave boys’ names (also love [name]Rex[/name] but not sure I’m brave enough to use it!), and [name]Estella[/name], [name]Evelyn[/name] and [name]Helena[/name] (pronounced Heh-lay-na) for girls. It’s all made far more complicated by the fact that DH is Aussie, I’m a [name]Brit[/name] and we’re both living in the States - so many things to consider! Thanks again, and if anyone else wants to offer their sage advice I’m all ears! x

I vote for [name]Evelyn[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name] … people might mispronounce [name]Helena[/name] and mishear [name]Estella[/name] as just “[name]Stella[/name],” which means a lot of correcting in grade school. And I agree, [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Perry[/name] sounds very dignified. Plus, great nns = evie and teddy

I love [name]Theodore[/name] as I mentioned above, and, of your girl names, my favorite is probably [name]Estella[/name]. Like another poster mentioned, it always reminds me of “Great Expectations” by [name]Charles[/name] Dickens, and I adore literary names. I think it is more elegant and unique than [name]Stella[/name], and if you like, it offers more nicknames. [name]Helena[/name] is very pretty, too! I knew a girl named [name]Helena[/name] who pronounced it Heh-[name]LAY[/name]-nuh like you want it to be pronounced, but there are also those who say [name]HELEN[/name]-uh. [name]Both[/name] are pretty! I know many Namberryites love [name]Evelyn[/name], but it honestly reminds me of my pediatrician. I do like [name]Evie[/name] for [name]Evangeline[/name], though.

Speaking as an Aussie I feel that [name]Oscar[/name] would be more well received in Australia than [name]Theo[/name].

I always think of [name]Oscar[/name] Wilde when I hear [name]Oscar[/name] and I loved his books and flamboyant nature.

I believe that [name]Miles[/name] would be a better choice than [name]Milo[/name] esp in Australia.

Another nice name is [name]Jasper[/name]

[name]Evelyn[/name] is such a pretty name and a better choice here as the other names are largely unheard of.

What about

[name]Alicia[/name] has the same feel as [name]Helena[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
