I am 37 weeks pregnant and we are yet to decide on a name - don’t know gender yet. My husband is a teacher which makes it more complicated as he always seems to have had a good or bad student with any name I suggest.
We have always leaned towards more traditional names but also would like our children to have names that are not too common. The baby will be a sibling for [name]Hugh[/name] [name]Stewart[/name] (2 and a half).
Please help, any input greatly appreciated!
Current top list…
BOY - middle name for all the below possibly [name]Malcolm[/name]
[name]Ned[/name]
[name]Todd[/name]
[name]Harry[/name]
GIRL - middle name for all the below possibly [name]Christine[/name]
[name]Lois[/name]
[name]Mae[/name]
[name]Elsa[/name]
[name]Edith[/name]
I think my favourite would be [name]Harry[/name] [name]Malcolm[/name], because [name]Todd[/name] and [name]Ned[/name] seem so short and just not my style. I think [name]Edward[/name], [name]Edmund[/name] or [name]Edgar[/name] nn [name]Ned[/name] would be much better and would also make the first and middle name flow better. [name]Hugh[/name] and [name]Edmund[/name]/[name]Edward[/name]/[name]Edgar[/name] would be adorable together.
[name]Elsa[/name] [name]Christine[/name] is the stand out, such a pretty name. I also like [name]Edith[/name] [name]Christine[/name].
[name]Harry[/name] [name]Malcolm[/name] sounds a little weird to me… it sounds like a code name for something not so great… sorry!
Out of the girl names, [name]Elsa[/name] [name]Christine[/name] is my favorite. [name]Mae[/name] [name]Christine[/name] sounds kind of backwards to me (pretty, but backwards).
I am worried that [name]Hugh[/name] sounds a bit like “who” and with [name]Elsa[/name] feels a bit like I would have kids named “who else?”
I am also concerned about having two boys with H names so not sure about [name]Harry[/name].
Favorites from your list:
[name]Harry[/name]
Other options: [name]Theodore[/name]/[name]Theo[/name] or I think the [name]Ed[/name] suggestions.
I think [name]Ned[/name] sounds like a nickname for something else.
Favorites from Girls:
[name]Mae[/name]
[name]Elsa[/name]-I would have never thought of Who [name]Else[/name] from [name]Hugh[/name] and [name]Elsa[/name]
I like the nickname [name]Edie[/name] for [name]Edith[/name]
Other options: [name]Margot[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Maeve[/name]
I agree that [name]Harry[/name] [name]Malcolm[/name] doesn’t sound quite right for some reason. I would also go with [name]Edmund[/name]/[name]Edward[/name] with the nn [name]Ned[/name]. I do like the name [name]Todd[/name]. I don’t really have a preference between the girls names - they all have a fairly similar feel to me and all go well with [name]Christine[/name].
I have a son called [name]Harry[/name] and a daughter called [name]May[/name] so we have very similar tastes!
I also adore [name]Ned[/name] (i think it can be just [name]Ned[/name]) and [name]Edie[/name] from [name]Edith[/name]. Beautiful names.
[name]Hugh[/name] [name]Stewart[/name] is such a nice name, and congrats to you! =]
[name]Todd[/name]- would be my first choice. It’s less common, has a cute meaning, and a subtle 4-letter connection. [name]Todd[/name] [name]Malcolm[/name] sounds great!
[name]Ned[/name]- somehow seems so short even though it’s only one letter less than [name]Todd[/name]. Not great, but not terrible. Sounds ok with [name]Malcolm[/name].
[name]Harry[/name]- is my least favorite option, because I’m not a fan of the two H names and I don’t care for it next to [name]Malcolm[/name].
[name]Lois[/name]- I like the 4 letters, but not the name [name]Lois[/name]. Nothing wrong with it, but I just don’t think it has the same spark that [name]Hugh[/name] does.
[name]Mae[/name]- sounds lovely, and in this case 3 letters seems like enough. [name]One[/name]-syllable wise it fits nicely with [name]Hugh[/name]. [name]Mae[/name] [name]Christine[/name] is my top pick.
[name]Elsa[/name]- again, the 4 letter thing would be cute, but now I can’t get the “who else” sound out of my mind so I definitely prefer [name]Edith[/name] to [name]Elsa[/name].
My picks from your list would be [name]Ned[/name] and [name]Mae[/name]. I don’t like [name]Harry[/name] with [name]Hugh[/name] b/c of the same first letter and [name]Todd[/name] and [name]Hugh[/name] don’t sound quite right as a sibset to me. The girls are more complicated to come up with exact reasons–I think it’s more the one I like the most that also sounds good with your son’s name.
My favorite boy name from your list is [name]Todd[/name] [name]Malcolm[/name]. [name]Todd[/name] isn’t heard often, but is recognizable and easy to spell. I know a 2 year old with the name and he get called Toddli by most everyone (older sister is [name]Mei[/name] Li).
Until you mentioned the ‘who else’ possibility, [name]Elsa[/name] [name]Christine[/name] was my favorite on your girls list. I hadn’t even thought of that! (This is 1 reason why I love nameberry!) Now my #1 is [name]Lois[/name] and #2 is [name]Edith[/name]. I’ve never liked [name]May[/name] (prefer this spelling), sorry. I still really love [name]Elsa[/name], though! [name]Just[/name] not with [name]Hugh[/name] as a brother!!
