I’m expecting my first baby - a girl - in July! Before getting pregnant, I feel like I had a name list a mile long, but now none of them seem right. I’m super picky about what I don’t want, but I’m having a hard time landing on anything, and my husband is pretty easy going around the name topic.
I love less common, kind of out there names. I’m very partial to word names, but it doesn’t have to be a word name. I DON’T want anything with an S, soft C, X, or Z, because I have a bit of a lisp and don’t want to struggle saying her name all the time. Our last name is Farr (which is kind of another word name, so it can be a lot when you put them all together).
Right now, a name that I really want to use is Poet. I’ve loved it for years. I figured it was quite different, so I’d pop it in the middle spot, but I’ve had a hard time finding anything I love as much to go as a first name. I just worry about people always asking if she likes poetry, or if she’s a poet, or if her parents are…
Other names I like (but not as much) are Fable, Maeve, Goldie/Golden, Vienna, Haven, Mabel and Romy. For one reason or another, I don’t feel like any of these are “the one”.
I could really use suggestions for either a good first name (with my criteria in mind) for the middle name Poet, or a suitable middle name with Poet as the first name.
If you like [name_u]Haven[/name_u] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] my biggest suggestion would be [name_u]Maven[/name_u]. [name_u]Maven[/name_u] [name_u]Poet[/name_u] in my opinion is just lovely!
I really like all of your names! [name_u]Poet[/name_u] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] / [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_u]Poet[/name_u] would be beautiful
Other thoughts that spring to mind… [name_u]Poet[/name_u] [name_f]Nephele[/name_f], [name_u]Poet[/name_u] [name_u]Vivendel[/name_u], [name_u]Poet[/name_u] [name_f]Ondine[/name_f], [name_f]Calanthe[/name_f] [name_u]Poet[/name_u], [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] [name_u]Poet[/name_u], [name_f]Vivia[/name_f] [name_u]Poet[/name_u], [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] [name_u]Poet[/name_u]
I also like [name_f]Poem[/name_f] / [name_u]Poe[/name_u]
Other ideas…
[name_f]Boheme[/name_f]
[name_u]Isle[/name_u]
[name_u]Lyric[/name_u]
[name_f]Vaila[/name_f] or [name_u]Vale[/name_u]
[name_f]Delphi[/name_f]
[name_f]Novella[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]
[name_u]Dove[/name_u]
[name_f]Evening[/name_f]
[name_u]Ever[/name_u]
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_f]Bronte[/name_f]
(and I know they have an “s” sound but also [name_f]Poesy[/name_f] & Sonnet)
So many great suggestions, thank you so much! I actually love [name_f]Mavis[/name_f], but can’t do the ‘s’ at the end, so have had to nix it unfortunately
I’ve also loved the name [name_u]Forest[/name_u] (minus the s in the middle), except that it sounds like [name_u]Forest[/name_u] fire with our last name haha.
I also like the name [name_u]Maven[/name_u] (prefer this spelling, I think!), but it doesn’t seem to hit me as much as plain [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] does, and don’t like the way the ending of [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] seems to run into the F of our last name
The rest of your list is gorgeous, and I think [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is probably my favourite on there, and reminds me of another name I like that i forgot to mention - [name_f]Opal[/name_f].
Some really nice options in here! Unfortunately I just don’t love the way [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] runs into our last name (which would happen whether it was a first or middle name) so I don’t really want to use it.
[name_f]Delphi[/name_f] and [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] are gorgeous, and [name_u]Dove[/name_u] is a guilty pleasure name of mine
[name_u]Maven[/name_u] seems to be popular! It’s on my long list, I just don’t know if i get the same warm fuzzy feelings about it as I do the other names. But it’s certainly not off the table!
[name_u]Lark[/name_u], [name_u]River[/name_u] and [name_u]Wren[/name_u] are also on my long list, but I can’t use them for various reasons (family members have used them, and another fam member used [name_u]Lark[/name_u] for her dog)… they just don’t feel original enough now.
[name_f]Neve[/name_f] is very pretty, but seems to run into the F of Farr the same way that [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] does. But overall lots of gorgeous options here, thank you!
Naming is actually sooooo hard!!! I found naming my daughter so hard and I think my name nerd brain actually made the whole thing worse so I completely get why your struggling.
But you will find your name so just hold on in there
[name_u]Poet[/name_u] is fab a lovely word name very cheerful and spunky. However I think [name_u]Poet[/name_u] in the middle name slot with the surname Farr works better.
Looking at your list I think [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_u]Poet[/name_u] would be lovely. I also really like the idea of [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] [name_u]Poet[/name_u], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_u]Poet[/name_u] & [name_u]Romy[/name_u] [name_u]Poet[/name_u].
You’ve had a lots of suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries…
Thank you so much! All of years of obsessively watching baby name youtube videos, and favouriting name lists on Instagram feel like they’re working against me at this point, haha.
The V at the end of [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] just runs into the F at the beginning of our last name in a way I don’t love, so I don’t want to use it unfortunately
[name_u]Maven[/name_u] isn’t off the table, I’m just not sure if it hits me the same way that [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] does!
I love [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] (Junie as a nn is precious!), [name_f]Delphi[/name_f] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] from your list. Thanks so much for all your lovely suggestions!
Honestly you sound exactly how I was! You will get there though I understand what your saying about [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] Farr but I don’t think it’s terrible/unusable just a little off but not sure whether it’d be too challenging with a lisp. Anyways really glad you love [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_f]Delphi[/name_f] & [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] good luck
Congratulations on your soon-arriving little one! That’s so exciting, and I get the need to find the perfect name for her. Regarding the lovely [name_u]Poet[/name_u], I’m generally a fan of word names. But [name_u]Poet[/name_u] is sooo specific; I think I’d lean towards the middle name spot. [name_f]My[/name_f] daughter, for instance, is very pragmatic; the name [name_u]Poet[/name_u] wouldn’t suit her at all, even though I love poetry. She enjoys reading it but literally cries when she has to produce her own But [name_u]Poet[/name_u] is gorgeous, and I hope you use it somehow.
Some suggestions:
[name_f]Sonnet[/name_f]- I know you said no S sounds, but I have a bit of a lisp too and beginning S sounds aren’t bad for me I think naming after a form of poetry is intriguing rather than actually calling her [name_u]Poet[/name_u].
[name_f]Paloma[/name_f]- the benefits of [name_u]Dove[/name_u] with the sweet nickname [name_f]Polly[/name_f].
[name_f]Emerald[/name_f]- if you like [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and Opal…
[name_f]Valley[/name_f]- This should be a name. It sounds beautiful and has such lovely imagery.
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]- a beautiful musical name, with cute [name_f]Callie[/name_f] as a nickname
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]- I love the alliteration, and it’s whimsical and lovely.
[name_f]Jonquil[/name_f]- an unusual flower name
[name_f]Verbena[/name_f]- a bright nature name
[name_u]Teal[/name_u]- an elegant, spunky color name
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_u]Poet[/name_u] Farr is gorgeous and I think [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] works well with your last name. If it gives you warm and fuzzies go for it! All the best!
Congratulations on your new arrival!
I had the same problems you’re facing and in the end our baby just came out looking like a name that wasn’t even on our list! So that’s what we named! Though I completely understand wanting to have one ready to go.
[name_f]My[/name_f] thoughts are these:
[name_f]Olivine[/name_f] [name_u]Poet[/name_u]
[name_f]Apricity[/name_f] [name_u]Poet[/name_u]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Poetry[/name_f] (little bit longer sorry)
[name_f]Anwen[/name_f] [name_u]Poet[/name_u] (the welsh names sound like poetry to me)
[name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f] [name_f]Poem[/name_f] (little bit of a double up in meanings, slight variation on the [name_u]Poet[/name_u] theme) nn [name_u]Ceri[/name_u] (pronounced Kerry)
