Name I don't like but means so much to me

Please be gentle as you give your opinion on this name. It is something that we have very intense feelings about, and also it is a family name.

The is [name]Paulina[/name].

What do you think of when you hear it?
[name]How[/name] would you pronounce it?
[name]Do[/name] you like [name]Pauline[/name] better?

I love [name]Paulina[/name].
I would pronounce it pau-[name]LEE[/name]-nah and I prefer it to [name]Pauline[/name].
I would be very happy if I met a little [name]Paulina[/name].
I also have to say that family names are a big thing for me, and I’m very aware of the problem of not actually liking them. I love my grandmother to pieces and would love to honour her by naming one of my girls after her, but her name is everything I hate about my own and way too common for me. I’ve found variants and names with the same initial to keep me happy, but if I end up with a husband more tradtional than me name-wise, I would probably just use her name and be happy. Namesakes are wonderful!

I actually prefer [name]Paulina[/name] to [name]Pauline[/name]. I have many Pauls and Paulas in my family, I prefer [name]Paulina[/name] to both [name]Pauline[/name] and [name]Paula[/name].
I say Paw-leen-uh.

Its certainly not used much, but it doesn’t feel as dated or as plain as [name]Paula[/name] to me. I like [name]Pauly[/name] or [name]Lina[/name] as possible nns.

I actually don’t mind [name]Paulina[/name]. It sounds elegant and grown-up. I can picture it on a professional woman living in a place like [name]Paris[/name] or New [name]York[/name] City. I think it’s more sophisticated than [name]Pauline[/name], and it has a better flow because of the a ending.

I pronounce it paul-ee-nuh.

Maybe [name]Paulina[/name] can take a middle spot. That way you can use it but you can still choose a name that is more your style for the first name. That’s what makes the most sense to me.

I love both [name]Paulina[/name] and [name]Pauline[/name]. My grandmothers name is [name]Paula[/name] and that was an option that I thought of to honor her. Whenever I hear it I think of royalty, or a really sophisticated young woman from Europe.

I also pronounce it paul-ee-nuh.

I like it, actually. I used to find it incredibly dated, but I find [name]Paulina[/name] so much more attractive than [name]Pauline[/name] or [name]Paula[/name]. Years ago I knew someone with [name]Paulina[/name] [name]Eden[/name] on her list, and I just thought that was so cool. I’ve liked it ever since, even though I don’t love it. I think it’s still a bit dated, I think it’ll be more appealing in about 10 years or so, but I would love to meet a little [name]Paulina[/name]. It reminds me of a vintagey little ballerina, actually. I don’t like [name]Pauline[/name] better, but it’s for personal reasons–I knew a [name]Pauline[/name] who was just awful, and [name]Paulina[/name] is just enough of a distinction that makes it more appealing for me. If it’s still too dated for you, what about [name]Polina[/name]?

I say [name]Paulina[/name] as PAHL-ee-nah, and [name]Polina[/name] as POH-lee-nah, for what it’s worth.

I think it’d be a refreshing MN for something short and sweet, like [name]Claire[/name] [name]Paulina[/name] or [name]Tess[/name] [name]Paulina[/name]…

Good luck!

Thank you so much for our input. It is special to us because it was the name of the place we went together when we first found out that we were a forever-kinda-thing. And on top of this it is a family name.

Playing around a little, could you pair it with any of these first names: [name]Lily[/name], [name]Ellinor[/name], [name]Ada[/name], [name]Viola[/name], [name]Ella[/name], [name]Frida[/name], [name]Rosa[/name], [name]Wilma[/name], [name]Freya[/name]

I think [name]Ada[/name] [name]Paulina[/name] sounds best. But I really love [name]Lily[/name] and [name]Ellinor[/name], too, and I think [name]Lily[/name] [name]Paulina[/name] and [name]Ellinor[/name] [name]Paulina[/name] would work pretty well.

Pauilina is surprisingly pretty. I actually like it, and a lot more then [name]Pauline[/name]. I have a great-Aunt named [name]Pauline[/name], but I don’t remember ever meeting her.
I’d pronounce it in Paw-lee-nuh.
A few [name]Paulina[/name] combos…

[name]Ellinor[/name] [name]Paulina[/name]
[name]Frieda[/name] [name]Paulina[/name]
[name]Paulina[/name] [name]Lily[/name]
[name]Freya[/name] [name]Paulina[/name]

[name]Hope[/name] that helps!

  • [name]Athena[/name]

I like [name]Pauline[/name] and [name]Paulina[/name] quite a bit. (I prefer [name]Paolina[/name] or [name]Polina[/name], but this name is pretty sweet in any form.)

I like [name]Ella[/name] [name]Pauline[/name], [name]Lily[/name] [name]Paulina[/name], [name]Pauline[/name] [name]Viola[/name], and [name]Pauline[/name] [name]Rosa[/name].

I also like the suggestion of [name]Ada[/name] [name]Pauline[/name] too.

Paw-lee-nuh
I like it a lot, but find the Eastern European spelling of [name]Polina[/name] to be more modern & easier to nn [name]Polly[/name] if that’s what you would use.

With [name]Helena[/name] being as popular as it is I think [name]Paulina[/name] would be well received. I don’t like [name]Pauline[/name] nearly as much as I like [name]Paulina[/name]. I do like [name]Paula[/name] though.

I love names like this- familiar, recognizable & easy to pronounce & spell but rarely heard today…[name]Paulina[/name] has all of that without feeling like it’s trying to hard.

I like it in the first name spot

[name]Paulina[/name] [name]Margot[/name]
[name]Paulina[/name] [name]Alice[/name]
[name]Paulina[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Paulina[/name] [name]Carmen[/name]
[name]Paulina[/name] [name]Dahlia[/name]
[name]Paulina[/name] [name]Hadley[/name]
[name]Paulina[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Paulina[/name] [name]Leigh[/name]
[name]Paulina[/name] [name]Mary[/name]
[name]Paulina[/name] [name]Roxanne[/name]
[name]Paulina[/name] [name]Susanne[/name]
[name]Paulina[/name] [name]Vivian[/name]
[name]Paulina[/name] [name]Wren[/name]

I think it works with so many different types of middles

[name]Paulina[/name] is nice, I’m not a big big fan, but it’s not atrocious or anything.

I think of smiles and a quiet quiet girl when I see it. I prefer [name]Paulina[/name] over [name]Pauline[/name]. I say it “paul-leen-uh”

I really like [name]Paulina[/name]! Kind of exotic and fresh sounding. Go for it!

I never thought of adding an “a” to the end of [name]Pauline[/name] to make [name]Paulina[/name]. It’s more fresh and new to me than [name]Pauline[/name].

I prefer that the fn & mn don’t both end with the same letter, so I like [name]Lily[/name] [name]Paulina[/name] or [name]Elinor[/name] [name]Paulina[/name] best. My favorite being [name]Lily[/name] (because it has a different number of syllables than [name]Paulina[/name]).

Thank you for this idea -I could use this name to honour my father if ever we have a daughter. [name]Baby[/name] # 1 is to arrive in [name]September[/name] but he is a boy and I couldn’t imagine using my Dad’s name for him, but [name]Paulina[/name] is pretty.

I prefer [name]Paula[/name], but [name]Pauline[/name] is prettier. It’s not on my list, but it’s far from being a terrible name.
It’s a cool choice.

Hmm, I am glad to see that [name]Paulina[/name] is received so well. Maybe it should go on the middle names list. I don’t think I like it enough to be a first name.

I actually adore [name]Paulina[/name] and I would pronounce it, “[name]Paul[/name]-ee-na”.

It’s very sophisticated yet light. Many traditional names have such a “weight” to them and [name]Paulina[/name] manages to escape this fate. I can’t stress enough how much I adore it and the fact that it has such meaning to you is so wonderful. I would definitely use it.

Additional spellings I like: [name]Paolina[/name].
(Not such a big fan of [name]Pauline[/name] though tbh)

With the intro you gave, honestly I was expecting the worst. I was pleasantly surprised to see “[name]Paulina[/name]!” Couldn’t you even go with the nn “[name]Lina[/name]” if you really wanted? If it’s a special name to you, I’d go for it.
