After I was just starting to cool off from the name [name]Milo[/name] … it followed me to the movies! My aunt and I just saw “That’s My Boy”, and one of the characters looked so familiar, but I couldn’t place a name. We watched the credits, and I learned it was [name]Milo[/name] Ventimiglia, one of my favorite actors from Heroes. Now I’m back on the [name]Milo[/name] wagon!
Anyone else get that feeling of a name following you … like a sign that you’re supposed to use it, or at least love it forever?
Update: Just had a similar experience with the name Bo! It’s definitely the night for stalking names!
This happened to me with [name]Milo[/name] as well! I heard of [name]Milo[/name] Ventimiglia only recently and decided to use it for one of my characters in a story after vetoing it. He was also my favorite character in Heroes.
Can’t say I’ve really had it happen with to me, although it’s the sort of thing I could imagine happening if I was in the process of trying to name a child. I get that feeling about certain songs sometimes!
I just had something similar to this happen. I had just narrowed down my potential girls names to [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Odette[/name]. I love each name a lot and have been struggling with which one would be the “the one”. I had music playing in the background and All of a sudden the song “check yes [name]Juliet[/name]” came on. I hadn’t heard that Song in a couple of years, I’m convinced now that [name]Juliet[/name] is the name I’m ment to use.
lol, no, that’s never happened to me! [name]Milo[/name]'s a cool name, but I hope you still keep [name]Matthew[/name] [name]Elliot[/name]. I really love that combo!
I’m kind of glad, too, I think I would get paranoid if I kept hearing all my favorites wherever I go. I think that’d make me drop the name like a hot potato, instead of convince me it’s what I should use. lol. And popularity doesn’t really affect me.

I do love the combo, and I think it works better … but if I use Matthew, I can’t use Milo, because I’m one of those people that wants to have different initials for children. Unless I do what friends of mine did and have a BJBJBJB pattern (the parents names were Blake & Jacqui), but I’d rather have unique initials. I’m not ready to let Milo go yet though …
Well, what about one of them as a MN? Like [name]Thomas[/name] [name]Milo[/name], or [name]Ryder[/name] [name]Matthew[/name]? And then you could still keep one as a FN. Personally, I love the idea of [name]Thomas[/name] [name]Milo[/name] and [name]Matthew[/name] [name]Elliot[/name] as brothers.
I know exactly what you mean about a name following you. I’ve seen a name we’ve been considering in random places, like on street signs, etc. At the time, I think, “Aww… that must be a sign!” But then I go back into name overthinking mode…
I think it’s just because it’s in your mind so you notice it where you might not have before. Before I got my car I never noticed that brand/style of car on the road before, but afterward it seemed like I was seeing them everywhere!
Since I’ve been more aware of names, I definitely notice names and thinking of words as naming possibilities. It’s amazing what you hear and see when you pay attention.
