What are your thoughts in general on the name [name_u]Luca[/name_u]? And what about using it if we are not Italian at all? Husband is from South [name_u]America[/name_u] and I am American with Scandinavian roots. I know every name has a background and I am not opposed to a name that has a different background than us, but I don’t know if this name is just so strictly Italian that it is weird to use? Thank you!
According to Behind the Name, [name_u]Luca[/name_u] isn’t exclusively Italian - it’s also the Romanian form of [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and the Hungarian and Croatian form of [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], so I don’t view it as being a culture-specific name.
There’s also the spelling [name_m]Luka[/name_m], which is used in several Slavic countries.
Agreed! Also, [name_u]Luca[/name_u]'s getting popular in enough cultures that I don’t think it feels exclusively Italian anymore. Not like… [name_m]Giuseppe[/name_m] or [name_m]Benedetto[/name_m] or something. I think [name_u]Luca[/name_u] would be fine.
I’m sure I’ve met non Italian [name_u]Luca[/name_u]'s - IDK, I don’t think I would find it strange. [name_u]Love[/name_u] your naming style. [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] and [name_u]Luca[/name_u] go well together.
