Name Overload!

I think I’ve spent too much time looking at and thinking about these names, and I’m at the point where I’m over analyzing everything. I find myself thinking things like, “[name]Just[/name] how many l’s are too many for one name?”. So, I could use some opinions on which names work best together.

Some background on the names. In both my family and my husband’s family, we have the tradition that the parents choose the first name and then use a name that has some sort of family connection as a middle name. [name]Aliza[/name] has the same meaning as my son’s name, so I thought that would be a nice connection between their names (This may be a product of over thinking the whole name thing though). [name]Elisabeth[/name]/[name]Elizabeth[/name] is the middle name of half the women in my family and several of the women in my husband’s family. It’s also one of the only names from his side that he likes. [name]Eliza[/name] is my middle name. [name]Sarai[/name] and [name]Sarina[/name] are both versions of [name]Sarah[/name], another very common name in my family.

So, which of these names sound good together? Are there any that just flat-out don’t work?

First Names
[name]Eva[/name]
[name]Isabel[/name]
[name]Layla[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Mila[/name]

Middle Names
[name]Aliza[/name]
[name]Elisabeth[/name] or [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Sarai[/name]
[name]Sarina[/name]

I think a lot of people know exactly what your talking about… I found myself counting syllables at 2am yesterday night…sitting in bed making sure I have a balance of syllables in each name, ridiculous I know!

Your lists are really nice. My favorite combo is [name]Layla[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], I love [name]Layla[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] would have to be the best middle name because it incorporates your hubby’s favorite from his side and [name]Eliza[/name] as well. I also like [name]Isabel[/name] [name]Eliza[/name], it’s really pretty
I don’t really like [name]Sarai[/name] or [name]Sarina[/name] they don’t really go with your first name choices except maybe [name]Lucy[/name], I think it’s because most of the first names end in an [name]AH[/name] sound and I personally don’t like two names ending in the same sound.

None of them “flat-out don’t work”, judging by your lists you will have a beautifully named baby. And again, don’t worry about the obsessing…it’s normal, I think

All the best,
Gracen xx

I like [name]Mila[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]

I adore the name [name]Layla[/name], although I think your list is very pretty on the whole. I think [name]Layla[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name] is a beautiful combination!!
[name]Layla[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name]/[name]Layla[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] gets my vote!

Best,
[name]Leslie[/name]

Being a good girl and using a first off your actual first name list, my favourite would be [name]Isabel[/name]. To me, I wouldn’t want to use another [name]Elizabeth[/name]-based name with it, so that reduces your middle name choices, and I would go with [name]Isabel[/name] [name]Sarai[/name].

[name]Isabel[/name] is a lovely name. And it’s my favourite spelling of [name]Isabel[/name]/[name]Isobel[/name]/[name]Isabelle[/name] as well. And [name]Sarai[/name] is beautiful and underused.

Being a li’l bit bad and only using your middle name list, which, sorry, I like better, I would use:

[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Sarai[/name]
[name]Sarina[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]

Being VERY bad, I make a list of names that are variations of yours that I really love:

[name]Zara[/name] [name]Elspeth[/name] - [name]Zara[/name] is a variation of [name]Sarah[/name], [name]Elspeth[/name] of [name]Elizabeth[/name]. [name]Zara[/name] & [name]Sarai[/name] are my two favourite forms of [name]Sarah[/name] and I can never decide.
[name]Leila[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] - I just love this spelling of [name]Layla[/name] more. Takes the lay- out, and some of the Clapton as well.
[name]Felicity[/name] [name]Isabel[/name] - I just happen to have a weakness for [name]Felicia[/name]/[name]Felicity[/name] that [name]Aliza[/name] can’t touch.

I like [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Eliza[/name]/[name]Lucy[/name] [name]Aliza[/name]/[name]Lucy[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] best.

[name]ISabel[/name] [name]Sarai[/name]! I love seeing [name]Sarai[/name] on someones list.

I would stay away from pairing any names ending in a vowel with a name that begins with a vowel. I think these would sound nice:

[name]Eva[/name] [name]Sarai[/name]
[name]Isabel[/name] [name]Sarina[/name]

Thanks for all the feedback so far! I’ve worried about making sure that the syllables sound ok in different combos, but I hadn’t thought about one name ending with a vowel and the next name beginning with a vowel.

I wasn’t very sure about or set on [name]Aliza[/name], and it seems like that middle name isn’t one that pairs very well with the first names we’ve chosen.

@striped socks - I really like [name]Zara[/name] and had suggested it as a first name. My husband likes names that are common or popular, and I’ve had a hard time getting him to be ok with anything outside the top 10 or 20 names.

[name]Hi[/name] - you have a great list going! Here are my favorite combinations:

[name]Eva[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Isabel[/name] [name]Sarina[/name] or [name]Isabel[/name] [name]Sarai[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name]

[name]Hi[/name] there-[name]Eliza[/name] is short for [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Isabel[/name] is the Spanish form of [name]Elizabeth[/name] so I would veer away from [name]Isabel[/name] [name]Eliza[/name], in lieu of some other combo!

I think [name]Layla[/name] [name]Sarai[/name] is really nice!
