Name Practicality

I was thinking about this earlier. [name]How[/name] many Kynlies, Brynns, Kyleighs, Jynzees, Bellas, and Livianas are there? Can you imagine little Aeynzleigh as a 95-year-old nursing home resident? Or otherwise, picture Prynceleesa-Alicileigh applying for [name]Yale[/name]. I just would like to know about other people’s viewpoints. Your opinions would be great. I hope I don’t offend anyone- I deeply admire your kree8ivitee.
I am not saying I don’t appreciate these names. I do not have any problems with them. I am not trying to make anyone feel uncomfortable and I do not want mean things said on this forum- I just would like to know about others’ positions on these names are. Please do not post anything hurtful to anyone else-me or other posters! I just would like to know your opinions, that’s all.

I agree. These crazy people think they are setting apart their children, and indeed they are. And not in a good way, at that.

When I said Liviana, I didn’t mean that it was extremely unusual- just that it is not a common name. Otherwise, it is not an unattractive name to me. With [name]Bella[/name] and [name]Brynn[/name] I just meant that they were overused and there are probably a million girls with those names. I didn’t mean to offend anyone- just throwing my opinion out there.

It’s difficult bringing up this subject without offending people. However, I do agree with your viewpoint. I dislike made up names intensely.

The thing is, names are cyclical. We can’t imagine a Grandma [name]Peyton[/name], but decades ago, “Grandma [name]Vanessa[/name]” was unimaginable. My grandmother’s name is [name]Ericka[/name]… she was born in 1926 in [name]Austria[/name]. I still think she has the most random name ever for someone her age, but she’s no less of a grandmother.
Grandma [name]Aubree[/name] and Grandma [name]Madison[/name] will be the norm in 60 years, and the children and grandchildren of [name]Aubree[/name] and [name]Madison[/name] will say, “Ew, [name]Kaylee[/name] is such an old lady name! I couldn’t do that to a baby!”
[name]Don[/name]'t get me wrong, trendy names are not my cup of tea, but [name]Ava[/name] is basically unheard of in my generation (for being an old lady name, I imagine), but is currently in the top 5.

[name]Lucia[/name] - the difference is though, [name]Vanessa[/name] and [name]Ericka[/name] are proper names, and so is [name]Peyton[/name] (sort of). [name]Madison[/name], while not my cup of tea, is at least spelled properly.

Where the OP is right, is about all these badly spelled or hideously creative names, which quite frankly I can’t imagine on a human being of any age.

I know it’s wrong to judge on names, but if I’m honest, if I was a manger recruiting for a job and I had two equally qualified candidates, but one was called [name]Tess[/name] and the other (using OP’s example) Tessynlee, I know who I’d give the job to.

I know, and that’s what I’m saying. We can’t imagine these names, and the even less “adult” names will one day be names of adults. Jynlee fits in with [name]Hailey[/name] and [name]Mackenzie[/name], nobody’ll bat an eye at a Grandma Jynlee.
I dunno, I guess I’m just saying it isn’t worth getting upset about and that people grow up regardless of their name. Some kids born 70 years from now aren’t going to know the difference between a Grandma Krizlynne and a Grandma [name]Evelynne[/name] they’re both going to be grandma names (and there will be the new generations of name nerds like us who will know the difference, but such as the world of naming- those who are interested in onomastics are in the minority of the general population).

I disagree. I really don’t think naming your child Aeynzleigh is the end of the world. Younique names are so prevalent these days, and this trend is no different than other trends being used today (i.e., revival vintage names, place names, surnames used as first names, unisex names, etc.) Unless you name your child Buttson or Assholiana, I really don’t think you’re putting your child at a disadvantage. Kids won’t bat an eye at a Aeynzleigh any more than they will at [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Ruth[/name], [name]Vienna[/name] [name]Paris[/name], Aniston [name]Jolie[/name] or [name]Madison[/name] [name]Riley[/name].

It’s all relative… [name]Debra[/name] and [name]Karen[/name] and [name]Donna[/name] were probably very modern & cutting edge when 50’s moms were bestowing them on little daughters. I’m sure plenty of traditionalists were rolling their eyes and huffing & puffing over “why can’t they just pick something nice like [name]Anne[/name] or [name]Elizabeth[/name]! [name]Betty[/name] is such a pretty name! [name]Donna[/name] sounds so…ethnic!” I’m sure that you can argue that [name]Debra[/name], [name]Donna[/name] & [name]Karen[/name] are historically relevant, while [name]Brynn[/name] & Aenzleigh aren’t…but really they’re all variations. [name]Debra[/name], for example, is a variation of [name]Deborah[/name] while Aenzleigh is a variation of a Scottish place name/family surname which apparently has the meaning “only” as well…both are positive, storied meanings that might be important to the namer. Or they could’ve just liked the sound, look or freshness of the name as most non-name-nerds do when they name a baby. I personally wouldn’t use [name]Debra[/name], [name]Deborah[/name], [name]Ainsley[/name] or Aenzleigh but none of the above make me want to call CPS!

Sure, some future HR person might delete Aenzleigh’s resume cause it sounds “trashy” or not serious enough, but someone might delete [name]Ophelia[/name]'s just as quickly presuming that she’s an entitled or pretentious type. Maybe we should all pick names like [name]Anne[/name] or [name]Elizabeth[/name]?

Thanks for all your replies - they certainly were helpful! It’s nice to know others’ opinions  I hope I didn’t offend anyone.

Whats wrong with [name]Bella[/name] and [name]Brynn[/name] we can’t just say I don’t like your name so your not getting the job. Thats just stupid the world isn’t made up with [name]Beatrice[/name]'s and [name]Eulalie[/name]'s you know.

Everyone goes on and says imagine a doctor MaKkenzeey but don’t you call your doctor [name]Doctor[/name] surname???

Everyone gets old and I shall be a nana [name]Ebony[/name] and my nana was [name]Jamesie[/name] and she would be 81 if she were alive today

You go on about popularity but one of your favourites is [name]Chloe[/name] [name]Rose[/name] isn’t that top 10 in [name]America[/name]??
