How do you feel about names being pronounced different than how they are “supposed” to but still wanting to keep the same meaning?
For example, I fell in love with the name [name_u]Sion[/name_u] (Welsh meaning “God is gracious”) when I thought it was pronounced like [name_u]Zion[/name_u] (zI-on)… but apparently it’s supposed to be pronounced like [name_m]John[/name_m]/Shawn and I am not a fan.
*Also wanted to add that I specifically want an S name for a boy which is why I would prefer to not just use [name_u]Zion[/name_u] as it is
It would bother me personally but wouldn’t judge anybody for purposefully mispronouncing a name

Everyone mispronounces names sometimes, and I also get frustrated at a pronunciation turning out to be completely different to what I thought it was.
It would bother me if somebody mispronounced a name on purpose just to have it their way, but I agree with [name_u]Laurie[/name_u] that I wouldn’t judge somebody if they did so.

@ethelmary @planetnames Thank you both for your replies! I actually feel the same. I think I was trying to convince myself it was okay but deep down I know I couldn’t do it. Sigh…

I’m not a fan of purposefully mispronouncing a name, sorry
I taught a Syon who pronounced it the way you want (SI-on). It’s a Hindi name
