So I am now approximately 10-12 weeks away from giving birth to baby boy!
We have talked and thought about nothing but names from the start! And yet here we are, still wondering what on earth we are going to call this little guy!
We are now at the stage of buying items which are able to be personalised, but of course - we can’t have the personalisation done because he still doesn’t have a name!
I don’t think his name will be decided until we meet him, but I’d love to be able to feel closer to a decision!
We have been ALL around the mulberry bush on the subject - Our main concerns were always that we wanted a name that is NOT UK Top 100 but is not TOO over-the-top unique (I don’t want people to gasp “His name is WHAT?!” when we introduce him!). We also wanted a name that has some personal meaning to us.
But as time goes on and names are thrown around, I’m beginning to wonder if I need to sacrifice some of our wishes - for example, I really like the names [name]Logan[/name] & [name]Noah[/name] but they are Top 100 - should I be sacrificing our wish for an uncommon name if it means giving him a name I really like?! I just don’t know any more…
I will give you the new list of names we have in our minds, some have been with us from the start and others are new additions - thoughts appreciated, and feel free to suggest but please be aware that I am ridiculously fussy and I tend to like very few names so please don’t be offended if I don’t like them
I have listed our Pro points for each name in blue, and our [name]Con[/name] points for each name in red.
The List:
[name]Tyne[/name] - In honour of my partners home town, a name we have liked from the start. When I tell people the name, 98% of the time they mishear me and think I am saying “Time”.
[name]Macaulay[/name] - A name that honours part of my surname, and will give him the nickname [name]Mac[/name] which was always my nickname growing up. The association with [name]Macaulay[/name] Culkin…is it too associated with him?
[name]Georgie[/name] - A name in honour of my favourite uncle, and gives me the GG initials I have always liked the idea of when used with his surname. Is it too old fashioned? [name]George[/name] is SO very popular, but there were only 68 [name]Georgie[/name]'s registered in the UK last year. Also my OH feels its too feminine
[name]Raleigh[/name] - A new addition.Too similar to my own name [name]Hayley[/name]?
[name]Lorne[/name] - A new addition.Too similar to my sisters name, [name]Laura[/name]?
[name]Noah[/name] - A name I have always loved.Popularity - was UK Top 20 last year
[name]Micah[/name] - A new addition. Too unusual in the UK…more of a “What?!” name? Mispronounced as [name]Mika[/name] like the singer?
[name]Logan[/name] - Another name I really love. Popularity - UK Top 20.
[name]Hayden[/name] - Another name I have always liked.Again too similar to my name?
[name]Declan[/name] - Has always been one of my favourite names for a boy.Partner says its a chav name where he is from? I can’t think of the US equivalent for the word “chav”…kind of a rough, common person.
[name]Ronan[/name] - I love Irish names, and I have always liked this one.Too associated with the singer [name]Ronan[/name] Keating who I DESPISE - would hate everyone to think he was named after him!
[name]Kian[/name] - As above. As above with the Westlife band member [name]Kian[/name] [name]Egan[/name] - I mentioned the name [name]Kian[/name] to one person and they automatically assumed it was because I was a Westlife fan!
