Name style clash

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you deal with a total and complete clash of naming styles with your SO?

I like names that are uncommon but not “yooneek,” that are unusual and interesting but still have history and meaning. My husband, on the other hand, only likes very no-nonsense, staid, traditional names. He’ll curl his lip and roll his eyes at names like [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] or [name_m]Lars[/name_m] as if it’s the most ridiculous thing he’s ever heard. It seems to be a difference in philosophy in general - I believe it’s fully possible to come up with a refreshing, eye-catching name that still ages well, is appropriate for an adult, won’t leave people thinking “what the heck,” etc… while all he wants in a name is for it to be “normal” and respectable and fit in with everyone else.

I’m just wondering if anyone else has dealt with such wildly varying tastes, and what the outcome was? I’m due in three weeks and we’re not even close to narrowing it down.

My husband and I are very similar. The first, [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], was easy for us, because my brother had recently died and we named after him. After that it’s always a challenge! Sometimes, the name is more to his liking- [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] and [name_u]Jesse[/name_u], and some more to mine-[name_u]Gus[/name_u], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], and Gillen. We both agreed easily on [name_m]Zane[/name_m]. We have a large family and the only thing I can say is that it has gotten easier over time- but most people won’t have that many times! We can talk about it much better now than we used to.
