We are expecting a girl after two boys and I’m trying to get some name suggestions to bring to my husband. I like more classic/older names and have been pairing more feminine first names with gender neutral middles. Brothers are [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] and we don’t want something out of left field that won’t vibe.
Our top two right now are [name_f]Adaline[/name_f] (nickname Ada) and [name_f]Leona[/name_f]. We also like [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] but I don’t like how popular it is.
Would love first name suggestions or even middle name suggestions for the shortlist we have.
[name_f]Adaline[/name_f] and [name_f]Leona[/name_f] are both classic and elegant. If [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is too popular, you could go with [name_f]Eveline[/name_f] or [name_f]Evelina[/name_f].
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] fits lovely with the elegant, black and white movie vibe of [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] but I agree it is very popular. You could go with the simple but sleek [name_f]Eve[/name_f] (or Eva) or anther version like [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] or [name_f]Evaline[/name_f].
I personally like [name_f]Leona[/name_f] better ( a little more graceful and unique,) but both names fit great.
I would also suggest:
Among the two you suggested, I find them to be equally beautiful and suitable for all ages. They also go equally well with the names [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] as a sibling set. However, the one that begins with an A is typically spelled [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], so you and your daughter better be prepared for people to frequently misspell it if you insist on spelling it [name_f]Adaline[/name_f]. Moreover, spellings, unlike pronunciations, are standardized and legalized so if she wants to change the spelling, she will have to file a legal name change and go through the process of legally changing her name, which is not easy. As with gender neutral middle names, the only classic/vintage gender neutral names I can think of are [name_u]Jordan[/name_u] and maybe [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. I am saying maybe because the male spelling is [name_u]Clare[/name_u]. The phenomenon of gender neutral names is a relatively new phenomenon in Western civilization so you may have to decide between a classic/vintage middle name and a gender neutral middle name for your daughter.
I am struggling with the spelling because, like you mentioned, it’s traditionally [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]. But I want to discourage [name_f]Addie[/name_f] as a natural nickname/ make [name_f]Ada[/name_f] more intuitive which is why I’ve been reaching for [name_f]Adaline[/name_f] instead. I also have a name that I have to spell for people and it’s never really bothered me so I don’t know how that will affect her later.
I’m surprised I didn’t think of [name_u]Clare[/name_u] as a middle and actually really love it. I’m not too fussed about the middle being true ‘vintage’ as most gender neutral names do sound more modern. I like the juxtaposition of a more traditional feminine name with the gender neutral middle.
Congrats! I love all your name choices so far, though especially partial to [name_f]Leona[/name_f].
First names:
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f] - kind of a mix between [name_f]Adaline[/name_f] and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], but less popular
[name_f]Leonor[/name_f]
Coralie/Coraline
[name_f]Linnea[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f]
[name_f]Tatiana[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
Lilia/Lilian
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
I like [name_f]Leona[/name_f] from your list! To me [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is less common than [name_f]Adaline[/name_f], as I know 2 born last year alone ! (All 3 are pretty)
Suggestions:
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] (I rarely recommend my own name but I think it would go really nicely!)
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Annette[/name_f]
[name_u]Emory[/name_u]
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]

I just had a little girl, and we named her [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]! We used the middle name [name_u]James[/name_u] because it is a family name, and we liked the idea of a very feminine name mixed with the masculine. I love the classic names (her brother is [name_u]Everett[/name_u] Scott).
If you do go for [name_f]Adaline[/name_f], maybe do [name_f]Adaline[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f]? [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is very popular you’re right, so I tried to pick names that fit the vibe but aren’t as popular/more unique.
