I’m curious as to what the correct spelling is for a girl named [name]May[/name]-uh?
I met a girl named [name]Maya[/name] (pronounced may-uh) and like the sound of it, but have also seen it pronounced as my-uh…
What do you think? [name]How[/name] would you spell a name pronounced may-uh?
Meia I guess?
[name]Maya[/name] would be pronounced MY-uh.
Meia sounds sweet.
In Australia (at least from the people I know) [name]Maya[/name] is prn like [name]May[/name]-uh not My-uh.
dearest - I would prn Meia like [name]Mia[/name] (mee-uh)…
Maybe Mayah?
[name]Maia[/name]?
I would pronounce [name]Maya[/name] and [name]Maia[/name] as [name]May[/name]-uh
Mayan (as in the people group) is pronounced may-anne
[name]Hope[/name] that helps
[name]MAY[/name]-a - Méa/[name]Mea[/name] maybe? Or Meia.
MY-a - [name]Maia[/name]/[name]Maya[/name] or perhaps [name]Mya[/name]
I’ve heard [name]Maya[/name] said both as MY-ah and [name]MAY[/name]-ah, so I think it’s just one of those that you’d have to say, “Oh, no, it’s pronounced [name]MAY[/name]-ah.” I had thought about [name]Maya[/name] said [name]MAY[/name]-ah myself, since my grandmother’s MN is [name]Mae[/name]. I like it much more than [name]Mae[/name], but I didn’t really feel like the MY-ah pronunciation was honoring.
I think it’s kind of like [name]Evie[/name] said like EV-ee as a nn for [name]Evelyn[/name], or something–it’s done, but you usually have to tell people a couple times for everyone to get it. But if you’re calling her [name]MAY[/name]-ah all the time, I don’t think it would take that long to catch on.
The Mayan people I know pronounce it as My-an. I have been to the Yucatan several times. Therefore I would instinctually pronounce [name]Maya[/name] as my-ah.
Maybe Mayah?
