Name That Toon

Howdy, ladies and gents!

Our last name is Toon, which has served me well in my line of work as a professional caricaturist/cartoonist/illustrator. It even ties in well with my day job as a hearing specialist (Toon/Tune). It has made picking names for my future child (due around [name]Christmas[/name] of this year) a bit challenging. Some names are right out:

[name]Kurt[/name] Toon
[name]Carl[/name] Toon
[name]Otto[/name] Toon
[name]Louie[/name] Toon

and some that I like, seem like they could be silly as well:

[name]Wiley[/name] Toon (coyote?)
[name]Walt/name Toon ([name]Walt[/name] Disney?)

With such a distinctive last name, do you think I should pick a very down-to-earth, common name?

Also, would a one-syllable name sound too choppy? like: [name]Dale[/name] Toon, [name]Joe[/name] Toon, [name]Sam[/name] Toon? Or is that better than a longer name: [name]Christopher[/name] Toon, [name]Avery[/name] Toon, [name]Benjamin[/name] Toon?

The names I like tend towards western/mid-century/grounded.

So what say you, Berries? We’ve got a lot of time to narrow it down. I’d love any and all suggestions. Middle name for a boy will almost certainly be [name]Dale[/name], although lately I’ve been leaning towards it as a first name (after my grandpa).

Other family names for middle or even first:

[name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Edgar[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Lawrence[/name]
Woodford <–I would so use this as a first, but my Airedale’s name is Woodrow, and that would get a little confusing!
Burlingame
Ferrée

Thanks for any and all feedback!

(Edit: Meant to put this in the boy’s name section. Don’t know what we are having yet.)

Well, I would suggest veering away from [name]Otto[/name], because with your last name it sounds like Autotune.

I think some one syllable names sound choppier than others. Example, I think [name]Joe[/name] Toon is better than [name]Sam[/name] Toon. Names like [name]Christopher[/name] and [name]Benjamin[/name] will probably be shortened, too.

I like the two syllables names best, such as [name]Avery[/name].

Since you have such a distinguished last name and with it being only one-syllable; I think you need to have your first name at least two-syllables for it not to sound choppy like you said.

Also, I would stray away from names like [name]Christopher[/name] and [name]Benjamin[/name] because they’ll be shortened anyways and you’ll just go back to that choppyness. [name]Ben[/name] Toon and [name]Chris[/name] Toon.

In my ultimate personal opinion (and I’m going to include your selected middle name to illustrate my point) I [name]LOVE[/name] these combinations:

  • [name]Wiley[/name] [name]Dale[/name] Toon (I see your comparison with the coyote, but this name is seriously too cute to ignore.)
  • [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Dale[/name] Toon (This name has a great flow.)
  • [name]Louie[/name] [name]Dale[/name] Toon (This name is also in that cute factor.)

From my own personal list of suggestions for you:

  • [name]Geoffrey[/name] or [name]Jeffrey[/name] (whatever spelling you like)
  • [name]Winslow[/name]
  • [name]Ransom[/name] (When you say western names, I automatically thought of this name.)
  • [name]Alexander[/name] (This name would most likely be shortened to [name]Alex[/name], but that’s still two-syllables.)

I like [name]Dale[/name] Tune!
Although [name]Dale[/name] is one syllable, it is a soft one syllable (if that makes any sense)
[name]Laurence[/name] Toon is nice, too.

Other suggestions:
[name]Ezra[/name] Tune
[name]Elijah[/name] Tune
[name]Isaac[/name] Tune
[name]Nathaniel[/name] Tune
[name]Oliver[/name] Tune
([name]Oliver[/name] [name]Dale[/name] Tune sounds nice!)
[name]Spencer[/name] Tune
[name]Barnaby[/name] Tune
[name]Eric[/name] Tune
[name]Frederick[/name] Tune
[name]Gabriel[/name] Tune
[name]Jeremy[/name] Tune
[name]Joshua[/name] Tune
[name]Jesse[/name] Tune
[name]Arlo[/name] Tune
[name]Milo[/name] Tune
[name]Roger[/name] Tune
[name]Caleb[/name] Tune
[name]Tobias[/name] Tune
[name]Harvey[/name] Tune
[name]Zachary[/name] Tune

I honestly quite like [name]Harvey[/name] [name]Dale[/name]. My mom has threatened to disown me if I go with it, but she may just have to suffer. [name]Oliver[/name] is a sweet name, but it might be too popular. I’m not obsessed about the popularity, but I don’t want him to be the third [name]Ollie[/name] in his class, ya know? Also why I have shied away from [name]Henry[/name] [name]Dale[/name], which is very handsome. [name]Jesse[/name] is a great name, but maybe a little feminine? I love [name]Arlo[/name], but I’ve heard that people get confused, thinking you said [name]Harlow[/name]. [name]Arlo[/name] [name]Dale[/name] might also be just a little too close to Airedale, my breed of choice

[name]Dale[/name] Toon is slowly growing on me.

[name]Dale[/name] Woodford
[name]Dale[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Dale[/name] [name]Henry[/name]

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions!

haha at first, I thought you meant you liked [name]Kurt[/name] Toon and [name]Otto[/name] Toon and I was like oh god. But ya, I’d go with longer names. I think they always sound better with a short last name. My LN is 1 syllable, and my siblings and I all have names that are at least 3 syllables.
