He’s the younger of two children, having an older sister who’s pretty popular, and feels pressure to live up to his successful parents - something he uses humour to mask. For his tenth birthday he got a Cocker Spaniel, who he named Crunch, and there has been at least once time he’s tried sneaking the dog into school.

The next student has faced quite a lot in life, meaning Ms Li takes time to talk to her one-on-one. She’s recently been adopted by her aunt, having spent several years in foster care, and settling in hasn’t been completely smooth. More than anything she’d love to become a fashion designer, a dream only a few people know about. She’s a keen sewer and customises her stuff, now doing some work for her classmates too, as they’ve recognised her talents. For her birthday, she hopes to adopt a bearded dragon.

The next child is a passionate volunteer in their community. With their parents and older and younger siblings, they have learned that giving of yourself is educating, rewarding, and eye-opening. With Ms. Li’s help, they drafted a letter to the school board stating that their should be additional service learning days for the whole school to participate in. Their pet issues are houselessness, working with veterans, and welcoming the refugee families in their community. They are beloved and valued members in their African American church community, but for them service is the most important part of their spirituality.

This next student is a boy who has an older, kinda dated name which he hates, despite everyone telling him how charming it is. He tried going by his middle name for a bit, but it didn’t stick. His parents died when he was 7 years old, so he moved in with his half-sister who is 17 years older (his sister was 24 when he moved in with her). He also lives with his brother-in-law and 6-month-old nephew whom he adores. He seems to never stop talking and is constantly giving Ms. Li a run for her money. He always has a kind word to say but can be considered quite annoying, trying to talk to people while they’re trying to pay attention. He’s very close with his siblings that are raising him. His best friend is Wynn.

The next student has faced a fair bit of drama in his life, being the son of a fairly successful musician who he didn’t have contact with until he was 8 - and things haven’t always been easy. This change made him question his own love of music briefly, but nothing can stop him continuing his playing of the guitar and piano, with metal having emerged as his favourite genre. Having been raised as an only child, he loves hearing about his friends siblings and loves spending time with his cousins - now having developed some relationships with his half-siblings.

The next student is Bindi’s best friend and a fellow girly girl. Although she also belongs to the cheer squad, photography is her true passion, and she has a particular appreciation for nature, loving to capture landscapes and animals whenever she has the chance. In contrast to her closest confident, she’s an only child and lives with her single mother who works as cook in a popular cafe, having no contact with her father who was abusive towards his former wife. This means she can be somewhat protective of her mum and won’t allow anyone to look down on her, having a compassionate yet bold demeanor that means she isn’t afraid of a confrontation. Recently she adopted a cat from a local shelter, named Danny, and absolutely adores him, constantly showing her friends photos.

She’s Korean-American and chose her current nickname when she was nine, being a little indecisive in certain ways, so she often asks Ms. Li questions, worrying about this. The next student seems older and wiser than her 12 years. She and her sibling have grown up with a single parent who struggles with mental health. They have learned to rely on each other, and are both in counseling. She finds a lot of solace in art - particularly painting and ceramics. She shows talent in both. Sometimes the chaos of the classroom gets to be a little much for her, but at the beginning of the school year, Ms. Li gave her permission to listen to music over headphones when that happens. Her smiles are rare, but Joshua Webster knows how to make her smile. Oz Penzig is also teaching her how to knit.

You may choose the gender of this student. The next student grew up in a “sketchy” neighborhood. Because of this, they got made fun of in elementary school and have a lot of insecurities. Now as a seventh grader this student is growing out of some of those insecurities, but it’s hard knowing that other students don’t live in as bad of neighborhoods. Ms. Li is quite compassionate to this student and has referenced stories from her childhood as she didn’t grow up in the nicest neighborhood either. This student enjoys spending time with Dacre.
