The next student is into philosophy because it helps him understand how different political ideologies work. He wants to be a law major and eventually become a legislation expert to be able to get into Congress. It’s a desire that he’s had for as long as he can remember - as his parents, second-generation immigrants from [name_f]China[/name_f], have always motivated him to develop a strong work ethic and suceed in a traditionally respectable proffesion. He feels that the goverments at a local and federal level need more Asian-American voices. He’s been involved in the “Stop [name_f]Asian[/name_f] Hate” movement for some time now and often posts about it online, particurarly on Instagram. It pains him that on one hand, he gets called names and blamed for the current situation by prejudiced people in the area just because of how he looks - but on the other hand for the same reason he gets approached by girls who are obsessed with East-Asian popular culture such as K-ppo or manga , who generalize and refuse to be educated on his actual heritage, thinking they know it all based on those few trendy things. A girl who is in this class dated him briefly and only pretended to like him as a person because he apperaently looks like her favourite singer - [name_m]Jun[/name_m] from the band SEVENTEEN. Now he avoids her as if she was a creature turning floor into lava.

He has a sense of style that could be described as business casual - a white, green or baby blue turtleneck and olive or black cords are his favourite clothing items. You’ll see him wearing a checked flannel shirt if the days are warm enough - although, one of his most hated things in the world is hot weather and going to the beach, as he gets sunburns pretty easily. Together with his Harry-Potter-esque golden glases and the book that he always carries around - it gives him a light academia aesthetic.

Although he is quite shy in class, he’s a total dork when you get to know him - always cracking jokes about politics that manage to make fun of both sides of the spectrum and amuse everyone, or sharing fun facts about nearly anything, which earned him the nickname “Wikipedia”. The political ideology that he’s currently interested in is Luxembourgism. He made some prettty funny memes about it on “The Political Compass” forums and it got him interested in other ideologies made by femeale thinkers.

  5. Damian Alejandro Ventura
  6. Reese Andreas Carriger
  7. Emilia Melody Dawson
  8. Ultan Frank Garliff
  9. Henry Zhiming Liang

The 10th student is Henry’s ex-girlfriend, she who must be avoided at all times, who was hoping they wouldn’t be placed in the same class, as she’s embarrassed by his reactions to her. In spite of this, she hasn’t apologised to Henry for the circumstances that led to their relationship, which is a combination of poor self-awareness and her reluctance to admit her own wrongdoing. For this girl, trends and fads dominate her life and image, being known for having a flighty attitude towards most things - including the subjects she studies, putting all her effort into one thing, only to quickly drop it when another takes her fancy.

She’s pretty tall at 5’8" and slender in build, having dyed her ginger hair a rich, darker shade of red; dressing in darker colours and favouring fabrics such as velvet and suede, always accompanied by her favourite leather jacket. Having recently got a nose ring, she’s begun embracing her height after years of feeling insecure about it, always wearing heeled boots: be they ankle or knee length. To compensate for her hidden insecurities, she projects nothing but complete confidence - having picked up this from her dad, who works as a marketing manager for numerous local businesses - which is prone to grating on others, although she pretends she neither notices or cares to process this.

~

@moonwriteen I hope she’s alright based on the description you gave! I didn’t want it to come across as a justification of her actions?

The next student is Damian’s girlfriend who is also in the same class. She has straight blonde hair with blue tips. Her parents wouldn’t let her dye her hair completely blue, but they did allow her to put some on the very ends. She has a very trendy style and tends to dress like every other social media influencer right now. She and Damian enjoy sitting near one another in class so they can talk, even though Mr. Nesta probably doesn’t appreciate it as much. She is a very outspoken girl and recently quit the volleyball team due to the stress of having to apply for colleges. She has two younger brothers and a family cat, Dino.

  8. Ultan Frank Garliff
  9. Henry Zhiming Liang
  10. Ainsley Renee Dunkirk-Davies
  11. Celeste Audrina Escoffier

The next student is Ainsley 's best friend. She always follows Ainsley around and they have a similliar style - she loves leather jackets too, although hers tend to have brads, handmade sew-on badges or other colorful accesories. To match Ainsley ’ s dark red hair, she decided on amaranthine space buns. She’s very much the quieter and more reserved person in that duo. She tends to be the voice of reason every time Ainsley 's new favourite fad turns out to be a potentially dangerous TikTok challenge or any other silly thing. They have known each other since they were babies - her late father was also Ainsley 's godfather. Dads of the two girls were best friends and majored in Marketing together at university.

She knows something that others do not - Ainsley 's ever changing attitude stems from not only insecurities concerning height, but also having to move very often. Her mom’s career caused Ainsley to constantly change schools. She was always trying to fit in no matter what it takes. Even then, pretty much the only friend that stuck with her through thick and thin was this girl - although it required being penpals for years. which contributed to the amazing writing skills both of them have and get praised for routinely by Mr. Nesta.

Their friendship only moved from letters in the mail to the real world again after Ainsley 's mom quit her job at an international corporation and decided to stay in her husband’s hometown - East Marsh - to start her own beauty salon.

The girl is convinced that it’ll only get better for Ainsley and she will find her true self eventually. albeit she does not appreciate Ainsley 's unwillingnes to admit that she has hurt Henry. However, she’s not the dominant one in the friendship, so she always gives up the topic whenever Ainsley gets angry at her over “taking his side”.

The amaranthine-haired teenager has a father figure in her best friends’ dad and a very consistant ambition of majoring in Marketing. It’s something Mr. Dunkirk-Davies supports her unconditionally in, as does her mother, two older brothers and younger sister. Maybe even her gecko, Baron , although he does not express it much! She thinks that social media is the future of marketing, so she stays updated about trends on Tiktok, Instagram, Youtube, Twitter and Facebook. She has not figured out how to mimic the influencer style quite as well as Celeste does , but she’s getting there. She knows that to understand the influencer mentality, she has to adapt it herself to some degree. Nevertheless, she’s also aware that many thinks on social media comes down to algorithms, so she began talking about it to the main “computer geek” in this class, developing a bit of an innocent crush on them.

@I_meme_it I don’t think you’re justifying her in the slightest - rather, highlighting her thought patterns , psychology and insecurities! I like Ainsley very much and decided to elaborate on her backstory a bit, hope you don’t mind!

The next boy is 5’5 and skinny. He is quiet and usually sits in the back of the class, though Mr. Nesta has been paying a lot of attention to him. He has a semi-colon tattoo on his inner wrist, showing that he is a survivor of suicidal ideation. His counselor was the one who thought he might get a lot out of the philosophy course, and so far, he seems to be right.
The student has a light complexion, features that seem large for his face, and teeth that are a little crowded. He has bangs that are long enough to tuck behind his ear.
Reese is someone he admires, and when he had the chance to work on his mural, he felt really gratified. It started an interest in public art, with this student asking his mom to visit public art in the nearby city. He also has become interested in gardening, most specifically pitcher plants and venus fly traps.
Along with his mom, he lives with an 11 year old sister who has Down Syndrome. She is great at giving hugs, even when she doesn’t understand his upset. He also recently adopted a dog, as his counselor suggested it, and is glad to have his goldendoodle, Blondie.

The next student chose to study philosophy on a whim, thinking it would provide an interesting perspective considering her interest in geology, animal biology and the makeup of the world itself. Often she’ll engage in long discussions with Mr. Nesta about abstract concepts and sometimes seems to have her head in the clouds - often asking unusual questions in class, which means some people think she isn’t really absorbing everything (or that she’s just existing in an impenetrable bubble). Aside from her obvious favourite subject of geography, she loves these lessons - considering them joint with English in her placement of classes. Environmentalism is a huge factor in her belief system and she’d like to set up a club or group within school focusing on this, although she’s uncertain if now’s the right time on account of her being close to graduation and not knowing if things could be sustained once she’s away at college. Part of her tries to battle cynicism in the face of her passions and beliefs, often finding her mom to be the greatest source of support when it comes to keeping optimistic. Her mother endured a lot of unhappiness throughout her own upbringing - enduring poverty and emotional abuse - and the strength she’s shown in being nothing but kind, thoughtful and compassionate never fails to inspire her family: especially her husband and elder daughter.

This student is Native American - belonging to the Duwamish tribe - and always wears a bracelet given to her by her granny, which is a family heirloom she treasures greatly. At 5’3", she has a curvy figure and light splash of freckles across her complexion, with very dark brown eyes and coffee coloured hair - cut just beneath her shoulders - with a smile that’s considered assuring. Her aesthetic is a blend of nostalgia and kidcore’s, preferring shades of blue, turquoise and purple as she feels they both compliment her nicely while being shades she absolutely loves. Looser fit pants and platform trainers paired with a halter top are her go-to outfit, usually accompanied by a lot of clips and pins dotted throughout her hair; with fun and colourful makeup. She has both a navel and medusa piercing too, having gotten approval from her mom - which isn’t too surprising as she’s a hairstylist who specialises in dying and unusual cuts. Heritage and visibility are valued highly by her - especially thanks to how Indigenous women are often overlooked and sidelined, especially in criminal cases - which has led to her bonding with Henry, who she can talk to for hours about the importance of combating prejudice and bigotry.

Having inherited a car from her older cousin, she drives both herself and her thirteen year old sister to and from school most mornings - with upkeep being performed by her dad, an experience mechanic who’s got a popular reputation on account of his thorough work and patient manner. She’s learned some techniques from him to ensure she isn’t asking for too much help, but always jokes about how her little sister’s picked it up much quicker and tends to advise her unprompted.

The 15th student is a traditional academic, an identity he worries is constrictive at times - as it prevented him from expressing his other interests for several years. Chemistry, physics and engineering are his greatest strengths - as well as those he enjoys thoroughly - but philosophy and music also are great loves of his, with his guitar and violin playing being influenced by his mom, a harp and piano teacher who used to perform in a respected orchestra. She adopted him when he was three months old, opting to become a single parent thanks to her financial stability and acceptance of her asexuality - although it would only be when her son was 11 that she came out to her friends and family, with him being her greatest supporter. Sometimes this student wonders about his biological family, and talks to Mr. Nesta about this from time-to-time, as well as the school counselor who he has intermittent sessions with; not wanting to detach from his mom, however there are questions he feels a need to have the answers to. Externally, he projects an aloof, composed demeanor and is level-headed in how he approaches most things - unintentionally deeming dispassionate on a surface level - although his pet Siamese Velvet causes his softer side to emerge, as he adores the elderly cat who’s always eager to cuddle with the closest human.

Favouring a salvagepunk aesthetic, he owns a magnificent coat made of patchwork faux leather that stops just above his knees - and is a big fan of large goggles, being fond of some steampunk elements. He’s 6’0" and very skinny, with dark auburn hair that rests against his jawline and he recently dyed the ends a copper colour, preferring autumnal colours. His eyes are dark blue and he’s freckled faintly, with a bridge piercing and small nymph tattoo at the base of his neck - having a fondness for mythology which often reflects in his music choices. Currently he’s considering getting a tattoo that honours both his mom’s asexuality and his own bisexuality, albeit he knows he’ll need to ask someone with more visual creativity to figure out the best way to display this. A good friend of Reese and Mila, he’s part of the artsier, alternative crowd which bemused those who don’t know him that well, seeing him as much more serious and studious than the carefree personalities he usually is around.

The next student is on the varsity volleyball team. She wants to go to school anywhere that’s near the beach, and is looking at UC Santa Barbara, even though it has a party reputation. She is 5’7 and slim, but muscular.
Her looks often get commented on, as she’s half Persian, a quarter African American, and a quarter Caucasian. She has large brown eyes that she lines with a dramatic wing, and she is growing out her black, curly hair. Her complexion has a warm undertone that she likes to complement by wearing brightly saturated colors, usually in the form of colorful dresses in scarlet, violet, and fuchsia that she pairs with her favorite lace-up knee high boots. She loves going retro with her style, favoring the 90s combination of bomber jackets with her flowing dresses.
She grew up being friends with Ainsley, but while Ainsley has become more fad oriented, this student has turned toward her inner voice. As a young woman of color, she takes a lot of the political activities to heart. She wanted to become closer to Mr. Nesta, having admired him since she started at East Marsh, and she always looks forward to their conversations. She likes Emilia’s whimsy, and the fact that she’s willing to listen and be an ally, and she also finds that she has interests in common with Emi. Recently, Ollie has caught her attention with his outspoken views about stopping Asian Hate, and she sees potential in him…possibly romantic potential as well?
Her mom gets afraid when she speaks her mind, having lived with the aftermath of all of the action in Iran, while her dad tends to be proud and supportive. This girl has a strong inner compass, though, and tends to follow her heart to a true north of justice in a way that’s remarkable, and has been so all of her life.

The next student is the resident tech whiz, who’s answered many a question from their classmates: ranging from ideas about robotics to updates on phones. They’re non-binary, although some teachers don’t realise this initially as their name isn’t unisex - having been chosen in honour of their dad’s best friend who passed away suddenly, and they consider it a huge part of them which happily coexists with their gender identity. Combining philosophy with questions regarding technological advancements and the future impact of this on society is something they’re absolutely fascinated by, and they could happily talk to Mr. Nesta for hours about the varying concepts, ideas and questions this brings up. Their family’s composed of STEM and humanity enthusiasts: mom’s a computer eningeer, dad’s a historian, their older sister’s about to gain a degree in biochemistry, and then their’s their thirteen year old brother who’s a rebel without a cause, who doesn’t quite know what path he wants to take. This students sarcastic sense of humour isn’t always apparent - as they’re content in their own company and only speak up when answering or asking questions - but it’s something their friends always appreciate, as they’re the first to use humour to comfort or reassure those they care about. In particular they try their best to cheer up Lili when the pair chat, as they’re aware of Ainsley’s prickly reputation and how it stresses her - leading to some gentle teasing from their friends about crushes…which they conspicuously haven’t made an effort to deny.

At 5’10", they’re lithe and fair in complexion, with wavy, black hair that frames their slender face and bright hazel eyes. Their aesthetic is a mingling of fairy and raincore, embracing both the whimsical and somewhat sombre in the form of walking boots and mom jeans paired with layered lace shawls and embroidered shirts, or a raincoat over a gossamer smock. They’ve got their ears extensively pierced - especially the right - and prefer rosegold jewelry, a preference they share with their sister Molly; especially anything depicting toadstools or leaves, finding they compliment their style perfectly. Poetry and folk arts are their other favourite things alongside technology, being a keen climber who has a stubborn streak when it comes to challenging themselves. Their mom was diagnosed with breast cancer when they were only nine and went through an extensive battle to recover, which has led to them becoming determined to raise both funds and awareness - while their sisters’s focusing on specialising once she’s further into her studies. This is something their memories of are vague and hazy - which they attribute to the stress and upset - but more recently they’ve begun to talk to their mom about it more, wanting to ensure she knows how much they mean to them. They’ve spoken to Mr. Nesta about this on several occasions and are now thinking of doing a sponsored climbing event, open to all students and encompassing numerous varieties of the illness in order to involve their peers who’ve faced the same difficult circumstances.

Programming and electronics are what they’re hoping to major in - with robotics being something they love, but their lack of experience in practical focus gives them doubts about studying at college - although this hasn’t stopped them from their prolific use of editing software: being the creator of several infamous school memes, some of which landed them in hot water…

The next student is a girl who is very much into romantic comedies. She romanticizes the idea of being in a relationship and is jealous of Celeste and Damian 's long-term love, although she never shows it. If she isn’t watching Bridget Jones and singing along to “All By Myself” then she probably spends her weekends reading magazines about plus-size fashion - Tess Holiday is her role model when it comes to style.
She listens to artists like Lizzo or H.E.R - her favourite styles being R&B and pop, with the occasional inclusion of rap. She spends most of her school breaks with headphones on, living in her own world while listnenig to their songs.

She struggles with her identity and is not sure if she should actively be a part of activist groups helping the African-American community - she is named after an important female figure in African-American history. This makes her convinced that no matter what she does, her work won’t be as memorable as the person’s she was named after. Nevertheless, she tends to engage in conversations about diversity, prejudice and politics with Henry , Mila , Ollie and Parvana. They create a small yet understanding friend group that she is really grateful for. She treats them like siblings that she never had, living as an only child with her mother and father - a nurse and a licensed therapist specialising in trauma survivors respectively. She recently adopted an Abyssinian cat named Anakin and is contemplating the idea of becoming a vet. She has been battling her new furry friend’s health problems regarding malnutrition. However, she still remains unsure about what to do in life and is planning to visit a guidance counsellor in the near future.

@kitkatcookie I decided to use Cassander Mirabeau because Cassander is the masculine form of the Greek female name Cassandra, while Mirabeau is a French male name (after count the Mirabeau , hero of the early stages of French revolution) while sounding like a girl name - think Mirabelle or Isabeau . I hope it balances the masculinity / femininity aspect well for them!

The next student’s only been in St. James’s Marsh for three years, having moved from Dallas to live with his maternal grandparents following getting caught tagging along with some of his friends - a habit he’d been given two prior warnings to cease doing. His parents weren’t impressed with this and decided the best option was a fresh start for him - although he suspects this decision was made with the intention of saving face being prioritised, due to their standing within the local country club - which he took to surprisingly well, mostly on account of having always loved his granny and grandad tremendously. Mr. Nesta has treated this student with no judgment, in spite of his past being well-known, and in turn earned his respect; with philosophy becoming a great outlet for his thoughts and feelings. He also finds the numerous cultural and geographical influences on the subject fascinating, loving to read books from a wide variety of perspectives. Art is a passion that’s never left him either - although he’s retired from graffiti - and he was one of the first contributors to Reese’s mural, now having turned his attention to making prints and zines in his spare time; taking some online commissions for extra income, whereas others are his own projects he does for fun. Within this class he’s close to West and Nolan in particular, the latter of whom is aware of his crush on one of their classmates - a secret he guards carefully, as in spite of his devi-may-care attitude towards most things, his private thoughts are kept close and locked away.

He’s 5’5" - affectionately being called “short king” by Mila - and has an olive complexion, as his dad is from Cyprus. Having shaved his hazel brown hair short, he’s now dyed it white and had a green floral pattern stencilled in, with Mila’s mom being the one to do it; which compliments his fern coloured eyes. His aesthetic is urbancore, blended with the associated techwear, and white is always featured within his outfits thanks to how it matches his hair and compliments his skin tone; with overalls, bucket hats, baggy hoodies and chain jewelry being prominent features. He has both sides of his nose pierced - stud in the left, ring in the right - and sometimes accents his looks with carefully planned makeup just beneath his eyes and trailing across his cheeks. Gaming, experimenting with synths and going for walks with his granddad are his favoured casual activities; done when he isn’t helping his grandparents out on their small ranch, usually spending his time looking after the goats, whose mischievous nature is one he relates to easily.

The two people he misses most in Texas are his younger sister Kyrenia ’ Kyra ’ and best friend, Hayes, who’s visited him on several occasions - in turn becoming acquainted with this students new friends (although nothing can break their bond). Aside from Hayes, his old friendships have gone in some cases - mostly those he rebelled with - but he’s never stopped supporting their mutual friend Ashton, who’s in foster care currently. He can speak Turkish and Greek, being stronger in the former as that’s his paternal ancestry, but kept this quiet for some time as he worried it could be interpreted as sneaking about somehow. Recently his granny got two rescue guinea pigs - Violet and Enid - who he’s become very attached to, ensuring they’re comfortable and he sends numerous pictures and videos to Kyra, who’s desperate to visit. Something he isn’t as proud of is his habit of vaping - knowing his grandparents aren’t delighted by this - but as he used to smoke, sometimes hanging out with Saph when doing so, they consider it an improvement. The varying aspects of his nature seem clashing to some, but as Mr. Nesta points out, the move has done him a great deal of good when it comes to embracing his own identity more.

@moonwriteen Their name is absolutely perfect and I love how melodic it is! I feel it matches their identity perfectly!

Septima was chosen for the activist Septima Clark ^u^

The 20th student seemed like an unusual addition to the class at first. She’s a daydreamer, accomplished jumper knitter and aspiring illustrator who’s incredibly easygoing and laidback, getting about with pretty much everyone - even being civil towards outliers such as Tommy. Unbeknownst to all aside from Nolan, she’s also the object of Azri’s affections - feelings her calm outer shell makes it easy to hide, as she very much returns them. The daughter of a lecturer in Gender Studies and wedding dress designer, her mom’s have always encouraged her to follow her own passions first, with this being a personal mantra she’s often spoken to Mr. Nesta about when given the chance.

At 5’1", she has a very petite figure and is easily identifiable thanks to her heavily freckled complexion, which are particularly prominent across her nose and cheeks. Her coffee coloured hair curls slightly and is very high in volume, something she considers both a blessing and a curse; however she’s pleased with how the colour compliments her light hazel eyes. Her button nose is pierced and she prefers to wear a golden ring most of the time, as it matches a necklace her mama got her for her 16th birthday. An arthoe in terms of aesthetic, wide leg jeans and screenprint t-shirts she picks up from a variety of craft sales, online designers and even some she’s made herself are her go to outfit - paired up with her trusty Buffalo’s and a pair of unusually patterned socks.

Comfort is what she prioritises, which some would argue compliments her sometimes sleepy demeanor - as she’s absolutely capable of curling up just about anywhere for a little nap when the mood takes her. She’s good friends with both Reese Carriger and Reese Ali, whom she affectionately refers to as ‘Reese’s Pieces’, much to their mutual amusement. Her two younger brother’s find her subtle popularity a little intimidating - especially the one closest in age who’s just turned 16 himself - but she’s picked up on the questions he tries to subtly ask her while they’re walking the family dog together: a lovely Irish Setter named Rhoswen.

@moonwriteen the additions to Ainsley’s backstory work perfectly and the further depth/insight you’ve added is brilliant!

The next student is Savannah Bonham 's older couisn and the grandson of country musician Howard "Howdy " Bonham. He does not share his grandpa’s love of the genre nor the family ranch that belongs to his parents. Actually, he suffers from mild but persistent hippophobia, meaning a fear of horses. He therefore works with other animals. mostly pigs, chickens and turkeys - his favourite turkey is named Urban and he admires the animal for his confidence and the leadership position he takes around other turkeys.

He really loves techno as a music genre. He owns a keybord and a DJ controlller along with a compatible computer program to make his own beats. Savannah loves how he mixes classic rock and country with techno and house - which led her to ask her cousin to join High Velocity , where he was offered the position of keybordist.

He is the quietest in the group. He has an incredible listening ear and often gives advice to his friends if they’re feeling down. He also knows how to motivate bandmates to actually work hard during rehearsals instead of just jocking around and being hyper-energized 24/7. He knows how to get practical stuff done quickly and efficiently, which makes him a precious helper to Bee Leavell, their main “manager”.

The big and friendly personalities of Savannah on lead guitar , Thorn Newman on drums and Kelso Pendry the frontman let him open up more and become less socially awkard - he also got the confidence to come out as gay , something he only did to bandmates so far.

At 6’2 , with his lanky figure and big hands, he is often regarded as a “gentle giant” of the group. He wears his curly , long hair untangled 95% of the time - but he will get the ocassional ponytail if the bandmates joke too much about how often the dark brown, almost black curls get into his eyes when enthusiastically playing keybord. His favourite aesthetic is synthwave - neon-coloured T-shirts with geometric patterns, basketball shoes from brands like Adidas and gray or black trousers with giant pockets are his go-to-outfit.

Summary

The 1st student is a musician and belongs to the band High Velocity alongside Thorn Newman, playing the lead guitar. She’s the granddaughter of a country music singer who gained respectable notoriety in the 70s and owns a pair of cowgirl boots which she performs in for him, but otherwise is very much into Y2K inspired fashion. On weekends she works at her aunt and uncle’s ranch, primarily with the horses, having saved up to buy one of her own: Comet, who she’s devoted to. Her sense of style means most people don’t imagine her enjoying punk or rock music but she gained this love from her dad and is also enthusiastic about video editing, as the band have begun playing around with the idea of actually recording their own music video.

Summary

The next student is admittedly a creative personality at heart, often feeling insecure in comparison to some of his classmates - which he tries his best to hide. He belongs to the band High Velocity - performing as the frontman - alongside Thorn Newman and subsequently is close friends with Warui based on their mutual connection. His mum’s a Scottish opera singer and raised him and his sister - who’s older than him only by thirteen months and attends St. Veronica’s - as a single parent following the sudden passing of their father, a music video director, from complications to do with alcoholism. This had led to him to develop an interest in becoming a substance counselor, even if his music works out as he considers it a highly important service - and wants to prevent others enduring the complex feelings he went through growing up in regards to his dad. He has silky, dark red hair cut at jaw length and dresses in an elegant style that favours dark colours, velvet fabric and sheer material - with his right ear being extensively pierced as well as his septum, often wearing glittery cloud stickers beneath his eyes. At last three times a year he visits his extended family in Dumbarton and incorporates Scottish slang into his songwriting for added flavour. His closest confident is his maternal cousin Alistair - who’s only a week younger than him - and the pair vidchat once a week usually. Although shy throughout his childhood, music really helped him come out of his shell and he’s part of a large friend group - consisting of students from numerous schools, as he loves meeting contrasting personalities. He’s the proud owner of a pet bearded dragon - named Shredder, in tribute to he and his sister’s devotion to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as kids - and Alistair’s sister Maeva painted Shredder onto the back of a denim jacket he proudly wears to gigs. Recently he’s felt more able to open up to Mr McSimmons’ about his fears - especially in the wake of his hopes to work helping others - and the support his teacher has shown in return has considerably eased his mind.

Hawthorn " Thorn " Gray Newman is credited to @I_meme_it

Summary

The next student also comes from a large family, being the older brother of Ravenna Paisley Newman from Mrs. Sekelsky’s class. Like his younger sister, he finds it hard standing out, and tends to do as such by rebelling in every way possible, considering any form of attention better than being overlooked; something that his teacher’s have come to recognise, and they’ve encouraged him to concentrate on what makes him happy. This has been music, with him playing drums in his friend’s band - High Veolicty - and through this he’s settled considerably. Being the 4th of 10 kids means he’s protective towards others, acting as a surrogate big brother to some of his friends and classmates. Recently he had help from Cillian to dye his hair neon yellow, which compliments his punk sense of fashion - especially his favourite tartan trousers.

The 22nd student started this class not being the most enthusiastic, choosing it because he realised his interest in sociology wasn’t fully there. In spite of this, Mr. Nesta’s teaching style has allowed a genuine appreciation to develop, and it’s now only second to Phys Ed in terms of his favourite subjects. Belonging to the swim team, he’s also an accomplished diver, sharing he natural grace of his sister Dia; which is something several of his classmates have admitted to envying, which contributes to his cockiness - something that makes his close friendship with Hartley even more baffling to some. In spite of his self-confidence, he’s very encouraging and supportive towards others, especially his friends who he’s a complete ride or die for - always being willing to stand up for others, having gotten into several fights when he was a kid thanks to confronting bullies. To clear his head, he walks the family dogs, Archie a Jack Russell and Thea, a Norwegian Sheepdog - considering it an exchange for sampling his mom’s baking, as he admittedly has quite the sweet tooth. He shares an open dialogue with his parents, never being afraid of talking to them, and can spend hours chatting to his dad - a toxicologist - as he admittedly finds chemistry fascinating, but never shies away from admitting he’s terrible at science.

He’s 5’11" and athletically built, while being on the slender side, with eternally messy hair usually tamed with a hat or banana, that’s a shade of brown so dark it’s easily mistaken for black in low lighting. His eyes are a rich, caramel brown and are complimented by the sunset tones he prefers to dress in, gelling with his skater aesthetic nicely - especially when he brings in nu-metal inspired jewellery. Along with his parents and little sister, he’s visits his extended family in Aruba whenever possible, sharing a special bond with his maternal grandfather - who’s very encouraging of his love of sports, and has helped him connect more with culture there as he’s grown up and developed an interest in embracing it. Instead of attending university immediately, this student thinks he’d like to travel following graduation, having a desire desire see more of the world and meet new people - although he doesn’t want to make any of his friends feel he’s abandoned them. Thanks to his outgoing nature and willingness to chat with just about anyone, he’s helped Bea with promoting High Velocity to social groups less likely to naturally encounter the band - wanting nothing more than to see Hartley and the others succeed in their passion (although absolutely no-one can know about his softer side). Having dated casually for a few years, he admittedly is a bit cynical about forming a close connection with anyone for the time being - feeling he isn’t mature enough to commit in a way another person would deserve.

This next student is new to the school as of halfway through the last school year – before that, she was homeschooled and had a very sheltered, religious upbringing. She has a very traditional biblical name. She used to pride herself on being a good daughter and and member of her church community, and follow her parents beliefs very closely, but things changed when her parents were killed in an accident last year. She was sent to live with her only other available family member, her older sister Liz, along with Liz’s wife and their little son. When she was little, she was very close with and idolized her big sister, but she hadn’t seen Liz since she was ten, as she and their parents weren’t on speaking terms after Liz came out in college. Although Liz tried to keep in contact with her little sister and sent cards and birthday presents and so on, this student was encouraged by her parents not to engage much with her (although she missed her a lot), and by the time she moved in with her, had grown to view her with a significant degree of distrust and blame her for what happened between her and their parents. Needless to say, though, after the accident, this student’s life changed tremendously, and much of this involved suddenly being catapulted out of the sheltered environment she was raised in – she went from not being allowed to interact with people her parents didn’t approve of to living with a gay couple, and from being homeschooled and taught only about what her family supported to attending a busy traditional high school full of all sorts of different ideas. Her first response was to resist the way her life seemed to be falling apart by clinging tight to everything she could hold onto from her previous life, which unfortunately gained her a reputation as a self-righteous, narrow-minded loner, and what’s worse, she knows that she genuinely hurt some people with the things she’s said and done, and she doesn’t know what to do about it. Furthermore, it didn’t even work, as the more time she spends outside of a sheltered environment, the harder it’s been getting to justify and convince herself of some of the things she had built her identity on believing, and she doesn’t feel like she has a way to make sense of the world or even really know who she is anymore. She took philosophy because she hoped it would help solve this for her by telling her what to believe, and although she’s frustrated that it’s not actually doing that, she thinks it might be helping anyway? She doesn’t participate a lot in class, though, because she doesn’t feel secure enough in any opinions to discuss them.

She has long hair of color that’s in that ambiguous space between dark blonde and light brown, which she usually wears in a ponytail, and she wears a lot of skirts and sweaters – dressing a little bit more formally than a teenager in high school would usually be expected to. She’s starting to have very complicated feelings about the cross necklace she wears, but it used to be her mom’s and regardless of how complicated her relationship with the memory of her parents is starting to get, she still really misses her, so she wears it but tucked under her shirt where people can’t see it. She’s a bit shorter than most of her classmates, which she used to not have any feelings about but now she doesn’t appreciate how it’s just another thing that makes her stand out from her peers. She has her dad’s big brown eyes and general facial features, so much so that her family used to call her Mini Thomas, and she loved it because she was very close to her dad, but she’s not sure what to think of that now.

She hasn’t been all that successful with making friends in her new school, although she admires her more confident-seeming classmates like Ainsley (whose insecurities she’s not close enough to see) and Jared from a distance because she wishes she could be as sure as they are about anything.

The next student was recently adopted from foster care after being in the system for her entire life. She had a younger brother who was adopted as a child but she has never seen him since then. She has grey-blue eyes and an olive-y complexion. Her dirty blonde hair is very long after not being cut in a while due to her wanting to have longer hair. The last student was born in Utah and moved to this town at the tender age of 6. She was raised Mormon and is a very active part of the church. She has much more conservative views than most of her classmates , but she appreciates that they do not shun her over this and can respectfully disagree during philosophical discussions – something that Mr. Nesta ‘s debate techniques have made easier for everyone involved.

The oldest of four children – two brothers in 10th and 8th grade and a sister in 5th grade who attends St. Veronica’s – she is very protective and caring of others, especially if they’re having trouble being included. She’s exceptionally kind to “outsiders” like Saph and Tommy or people with troubled a troubled past like Sakari. Saph , however, treats her very harshly and sees her behaviour as not authentic.

She especially looks after Mary and tries to make her adapt faster in the school, sitting next to her during lunch hour and talking about how traditional Lutheranism differs from Mormonism. She tries to get the point across to her classmates that they should not hold a grudge against Mary for the hurtful things she said, as she grew up very sheltered and did not mean to cause genuine harm to anyone’s emotions. Mary appreciates her concern and talks to her often about struggles regarding faith and loss that she’s suffered – although she’s a little surprised at how quickly the new friend gained her genuine and deep trust.

The girl recently lost touch with a long-time friend – Euan Christopher Sharrow. He’s someone she had lived next door to ever since she moved and they’d been schoolmates all through primary and middle school. It changed when he chose to board at Gregor Mendel’s Private Boys’ School. The girl misses him dearly, as they shared a lot of unforgettable memories and secrets with each other. She doesn’t understand her siblings joking about how he only disappeared because he got sick of being trapped in her friendzone. That doesn’t make any sense to her. She knows from Una that Euan clearly got involved romantically with Reese Nadia Ali, who couldn’t be more different from her.

The girl dresses very modestly – simple, white shirts, flesh-coloured tights and pencil skirts are essential for her. She wears her blonde, almost golden hair shoulder-length and perfectly straightened – with hairbands that without fail match the colour of her nails, which are the only crazy part.

Nail art is her true passion and she loves unconventional, bright colours – turquoise, royal purple and celadon being her favourites. She often mixes flowery and starry patterns in , but her true specialty are angel wings, which she can draw in exactly 7 different ways. She recently got hired by Ainsley ‘s mom, Stephanie Dunkirk-Davies , at her beauty salon. She thinks it’s the best career opportunity she’s ever had. There is nothing more rewarding to her than a customer’s smile. She has been giving Mary some training too. Mary wants to work there as well, not only to be closer to her first friend at school , but also to potentially form a bond with Ainsley , whose confidence she so deeply admires.

Summary

The next guy is known as a punk rocker because of his style. He has a very unique hairstyle - a cherry-red mohawk, which he pairs with a leather jacket decorated with brads and dark Levi’s jeans. He actually doesn’t enjoy punk rock that much, preferring pop-rock ballads , abd adapted that style in order to draw attention from his acne, which he feels insanely insecure about. He is convinced that he will never get a girlfriend, and therefore really enjoys going to a school with only guys and not having to confront them in everyday life. He chooses to board and lives in a room with Luke, with whom he has brother-like understanding despite their differences. What connects them the most is their mutual love for biology and academics in general - althoug this guy prefers a more practical approach to learning it by going on walks for hours and collecting leafs of various tree species rather than constantly sitting with their nose in the books. Luke and this young man also both chose to board as a result of a difficult family situation - while Luke’s parents are going through a messy divorce and creating an extremely unpleasant home environment for him as an only child and making him not trust parents to confess about bisexuality. This guy, on the other hand, chose boarding because he wants to leave space for his aunt and her three children - 15-year-old Franklin , 13-year-old Georgia and 9-year-old Anthony - because the family moved to their house after a flood that completely destroyed theirhome in Louisiana. He often tells Luke about the bond that his mom has with her sister, and how he feels this bond needs to be prioritized in a situation like this.

Summary

The next student is jokingly referred to as Ms. N’s “teachers pet”, on account of their love of sculpture - although ceramics are another interest of theirs’ artistically. They’re non-binary - using the pronouns she/they - and prefer an angelcore aesthetic, infused with pearly elements in particular; often wearing gems as part of their eye makeup. As the elder of two children - living with their mom and stepdad, as their biological father walked out when they were 3 and their brother was only a newborn - they try their best to set a good example; but thanks to having a somewhat aloof, spacey demeanor some tethers find their nerves about engaging a sign of disinterest, when really they’re just processing things their own way. They’re biracial - taking more after their mom, who was born with Sfax, which truthfully they’re happy about as part of them still resents their fafher for his disregard of the family - and have learned to cook Tunisian cuisine, alongside learning Arbaic, to help strengthen their ties to their maternal culture. While a little awkward at first, they’ve also come to form a very strong bond with their stepdad, who they share a love of photography and hiking with - regularly going on weekend trips together, dragging along their little brother if possible (so their mom can have a break, as she’s a busy registered nurse). Thanks to crossovers within friend groups they’ve recently met Euan Sharrow, whom they’ve become very fond of, although admitting their feelings might go beyond a platonic basis feels a little intimidating right now. Their two cats - a tabby named Gretchen and Ragamuffin named Blythe - are regularly featured in their artwork, although in general they love incorporating felines; most recently having made their mom a ceramic of a Siberian tiger to celebrate her recent promotion. At 5’4" they have a slight figure - albeit with wide hips - and tend to pin back their thick, dark brown hair using clips, having a love of 90s influenced hairstyles. Their eyes are a rich caramel brown and their complexion is heavily freckled across their cheeks, neck and arms, with their nose being pierced on the left (opting for a heart shaped, golden ring most days) and a gap between their two front teeth - a feature they’re very proud of, as a lot of people consider it cute. Often they wear heeled shoes to appear a little taller, crediting their hobby of gymnastics as the reason how they manage to not break their ankle - even when they’re usually dashing about between classes.

The next class is the Senior School Orchestra at St. Paul’s High School, the larger local one when compared to East Marsh. There are twenty members aged between sixteen-eighteen, who are overseen by the school’s most experienced music teacher who emigrated from Bristol, shortly after gaining her doctorate. Now in her early sixties, classical music was never her greatest preference - something joked about by a lot of her colleagues - and so she shook up the orchestra upon bring appointed in a hope of gathering more interest, opposed to students continuing to form their own bands to express their musical preferences. This proved a considerable success, as she’s emphasised the importance of open discussion and is always up for taking requests from the students - being particularly fond of symphonic metal, as she was heavily into the thrash scene in her youth and never shies away from encouraging students to explore a fast degree of genres, including those usually overlooked by traditional comics. She’s very enthusiastic but hides this behind her cool demeanor and flippant sense of humour, sharing a great back and forth dynamic with the Junior Orchestra teacher which is present in their friendship outside of work. Sometimes her intelligence is overlooked on account of her fringe interests and desire to think outside the box, but it never phases her much - as she’s been able to develop a quiet confidence throughout life that’s never left.

At 5’11", she’s a very slim woman with curly salt and pepper hair cut into a bob. Her eyes are a dark shade of blue-grey and she wears a silver star nose stud - which was gifted to her by her sister - that’s usually paired up with matching earrings. Aesthetically she’s a lot more relaxed than the goth-meets-punk aesthetic she adopted in her youth - isolising Siouxsie Sioux - but has continued her preference for dark, dramatic colours; instead implementing a chic, business slickness to how she dresses. Suit jackets with clashing patterned skirts are favoured by her, and she never had the heart to throw away the leather coat she customised in her youth, still wearing it to orchestral performances - complete with sewn on patches and etched on patterns which contain happy memories. She always wears deep lipstick too - preferring mauve or maroon - which contrasts nicely with the silver jewelry she prefers wearing. Thrifting is another habit which never left her, and the expansive sales available in the local area are adored by her - especially anything vintage based.

Having lost her partner before moving away, she raised her two son’s as a single parent ostensibly - being very close to the elder of the two, Davis, who shares a lot of her interests and wry sense of humour. The two regularly meet up to go hiking or walking, accompanied by his wife and children on occasions - with it being a well-guarded secret that she spoils them rotten and is always willing to play imaginary games if their parents are too tired. Her younger son Niall is much more of a traditional academic and sometimes felt a bit of an outsider compared to his creative brother and mum - however he knew he could rely on them when he came out as gay; with them supporting him and his husband, who’s trans, in their path to adoption. Now having four grandkids - ten year old Suki, eight year old Leif and five year old Quincy from Davis and Ruby; three year old Isla from Niall and Clarke - she teaches them music when they’re interested or discusses other creative subjects with them, being a fan of sewing and textiles too. She also has her own motorbike, sometimes riding it to school, and maintains upkeep herself which she’s very proud of.

St. Paul’s High School, Senior Orchestra (16-18 year olds, 20 students)

Dr. [name_f]Maureen[/name_f] [name_f]Gail[/name_f] Haskins

The first student is a quiet, shy flute player whose parents encouraged him to take up the instrument in middle school in hopes that performing in front of an audience and being part of a group would help him overcome some of his nervousness around other people. It didn’t really work, but he fell in love with the instrument and with music and has been playing ever since. He’s very studious and nerdy, with a love of math and a great appreciation for the way music takes mathematical concepts and presents them in a way that shows how beautiful they are. When he shows people an amazing graph of the complex waveforms of sine wave harmonics, for example, they don’t always see what he sees in it, but when he plays a piece of music with enchanting harmonic notes, people get it, and he gets a sense of satisfaction out of getting them to get it. He’s an eleventh grader and in the process of applying to colleges, focusing on elite mathematical programs. Despite his awkwardness in social situations, he’s actually very confident in himself academically and in the context of his field, and he’s sure he’s going to be the guy to solve the Riemann hypothesis.

He’s a tall and lanky [name_m]Black[/name_m] boy with short, dark curls and wireframe glasses. He doesn’t give much thought to fashion, and wears a lot of jeans and t-shirts with mathematical jokes on them that no one else gets. He doesn’t mind; /he/ thinks they’re funny and he only dresses for himself. Socially, he enjoys being around his longtime bandmates, the ones he’s been doing this with since sixth grade, and spending time with them, but he hangs out on the edge of the group and doesn’t always have a lot to say. He always seems vaguely surprised when it comes up that they consider him a part of their friend group and enjoy and value his presence, no matter how often they make that clear, since he doesn’t feel like he contributes much to the social environment, but he adds more than he realizes, and his friends really do appreciate him.

(Also, @moonwriteen , thank you for appreciating [name_f]Mary[/name_f] enough to include her in your character’s thing!)
