The next student originally comes from the Tamil-speaking part of Sri Lanka. He was born without his right arm due to problems that occured in the womb during his mom’s pregnancy, which was high risk. He was also born prematurely via C-section and his parents refuse to talk about his early childhood at all. When he was two and a half years old his parents decided to apply for a visa to be able to move to his maternal aunt’s house. The aunt , Doita , has always gone exclusively by " [name_f]Dot[/name_f] " ever since moving to the US. After having a brief acting career in the nineties , starring mainly in [name_u]Indie[/name_u] movies, she decided to place her artistic drive into renovating a Victorian home and making a cafe out of it, called “Dot’s spot”. Spending a lot of time in that family-friendly space and helping his aunt clean, this student decided to join this class in order to handle tiny customers with better patience and less awkardness - especially considering that he often didn’t know what to say to them when asked about his disability. Another reason was wanting to be closer to [name_f]Zaya[/name_f] and see her more often , although he only ever admitted it to [name_f]Dot[/name_f] and blushed like crazy during it.

Movies are the main hobby of this student , as she always felt like throwing trivia about Bollywood actors and actresses at people are a nice way of directing attention away from his missing limb. He also really enjoys the musical aspect of many Bollywood movies and thinks that it’s a fun way of connecting to his culture. [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] , his best friend, loves them too. They, however , tend to argue often about which ones are better - B-tier zombie ones or [name_f]Indian[/name_f] masala ones. He also bonds with [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] over the close relationship with siblings - this guy’s sister has always supported him and unlike his parents was open to talk about feelings and insecurities instead of telling him to just “suck it up” . Now that she studies physical therapy at university and wants to go on to work with people born without limbs or amputees, this students feels honored to have inspired her to choose such an important and selfless career path.

At only 5’4 , this guy is often called “shortie” by peers. His style is pretty casual. you’ll see him wearing oversized shirts with the logo of his sister’s university softball team, a baseball cap and baggy trousers. Once he tried to emulate Bollywood actor Sharukh [name_m]Khan[/name_m] by wearing sunglasses, a white shirt with one open button and using gel on his hair. It did go over pretty well , but only in the jokes and laughing departament. He promised himself to not experiment with style anymore, but recently began considering getting an ashley piercing and growing his hair out. However, his aunt and sister think it’s a terrible idea , while [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] encourages him to go ahead. The 17 year old doesn’t really know what to do

@kitkatcookie You mentioned Alexis’ friend also attending this class so I thought I might wanna make him! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think he works?

The next student is a close friend of Poppy’s, something arguably pretty befitting as she’s got a definite touch of romanticism about her. Although a lot of people assume she’s easy to read when it comes to crushes, she’s kept her feelings for [name_m]Javion[/name_m] Fothergill close to her chest - having a fear of ruining a good friendship thanks to the changes in how she feels about him. They bonded ostensibly over their love of the musician [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] Newsom, however mutual experiences in feeling trapped by social expectations i what caused their sincere closeness, and it’s clear they have an open dialogue rule when it comes to their private chats. She’s the eldest of 3 kids - having two brother’s: one’s 13, the other’s 6 - and this furthers her unspoken need to minimalise her own stresses and fears; however she has become more open about her experiences dealing with racism and prejudice, with her mom being Thai-American and her dad’s a second generation Chinese immigrant.

A little above average height at 5’7", she has a slender figure and is poised on account of having been an avid ballet dancer since she was only 4 - teaching the kid’s the class look after some basic steps, alongside a bit of jazz and tap, as they’re always delighted to hear the click-clack of her tap shoes. Outside of dance costumes, her aesthetic is a blend of tweencore and Old [name_m]Web[/name_m], favouring colours such as pink, red and blue; often wearing t-shirts or dresses she customises herself with imagery associated with classic internet functions and culture - although she can’t beat out a good cropped hoodie and mini skirt combo - however a constant is the mini leg warmers she wears alongside socks and tights. Her jet black hair is cut just beneath the mid-point of her back - often pushed away from her face to expose the earrings she painstakingly picks out to compliment each outfit - and she enjoys wearing face gems whenever possible, as they bring a twinkle to the coffee colour of her eyes.

It was her bond with her youngest brother that prompted her to take this class - with him sharing her more sensitive, quiet temperament and she still feels quite protective towards him; as he was born with a cleft pallet and has gotten upset when other kids ask about the scar that remained after he had it corrected. She knows dance is what she wants to pursue for her future, but has spoken to Ms. Daskal about the likelihood of teaching at some point, feeling this is perfect experience. When she isn’t wrapped up in screen-printing or practicing routines, she loves playing with the family cat - a tiny ginger fluff ball named [name_f]Apricot[/name_f] - or going wandering with her friends about either town or into the more picturesque forests of St. James’s [name_u]Marsh[/name_u]. More recently she’s also begun learning how to cook both Thai and Chinese dishes, speaking both languages fluently, but she also wants to become more practical and independent; especially since she earned her driver’s license just before her 17th birthday - as her parents are often caught up in running the towns’ busy [name_f]Asian[/name_f] supermarket.

[name_m]Javion[/name_m] [name_u]Thanh[/name_u] Fothergill is credited to @cara_murvolio ^u^ Considering the poor lad’s track record with crushes I wanted there to be another source of potential romance for him!

The next student was very reluctant to join the school orchestra, primarily as it cuts out time seeing his friends - who aren’t in many of his classes as it is - but his parents encouraged him to pursue it. He plays both the xylophone and marimba, instruments he feels are unfairly overlooked by the majority - something that pushed him to begin learning them initially. Growing up he often found himself isolated, with his active imagination leading others to label him as weird, which is why his friends are so dear to him now he’s found his niche and can express himself properly without the fear of ridicule or rejection. For several years he downplayed his love of fantasy and classic folk music thanks to fearing the reaction it would garner, causing him to become more popular but feel nothing short of miserable as he ‘masked up’ every day to fit in - abandoning this when he turned 15 after someone he hung out with made homophobic ‘jokes’ around him, which this student couldn’t forgive considering he has two dad’s who mean the world to him and his siblings (his 20 and 14 year old sisters’ and 9 year old brother). This has prompted his interest in more political elements of music - something he discusses with Professor Haskins often, and has led to him developing a good friendship with Blake in particular once he became acquainted with the other boys’ musical tastes and writing. Travel is something else he loves, often taking the train to visit his older sister Lizbeth, as she’s currently studying fine at university in the nearest city - and he thinks he’d like to go backpacking once he graduates, partially being inspired by the fact it’s how his dad’s met. He was adopted from Vientam as a baby, his older sister having been born in Romania, whereas his younger siblings were conceived through surrogacy - yet there’s no difference in how their parents treat them, somrthing he greatly appreciates.

At 6’0", he’s skinny and his black hair rests just above his shoulders, having opted to grow it long as he’s proud of it’s silky texture. There’s a beauty spot just above his lips on the right, which are quite full, and he admits he finds them his best feature; also having his right tragus, daith and conch pierced, preferring simple studs or small rings for these. Typically he prefers a romantic aesthetic that features lots of shirts depicting classical artwork prints, paired with dark pants or ripped up dad jeans so the patterns don’t come across as garish. He had his tongue pierced and wears a simple golden ball, which compliments the jewelry he enjoys perusing at local markets - owning a particularly nice Roman coin necklace, chosen to honour his dad, who works restoring artifacts for museums. Clashing with his typical style, he proudly wears a sweatshirt printed for his papa’s web design business - not just out of loyalty but because the fabric is incredibly plush and he loves the dark cherry colour. For about 4 months he had a crush on Bo, but was also a little intimidated by her, and once he found out she hung out with Saph Whitam he abandoned his hopes of a date, as the other girl terrifies him. Now he’s developed a crush on another one of his fellow musicians, a young man who he’s far too nervous to approach currently - considering talking to a mutual friend of their’s who’s much more outgoing - but they have chatted a few times about comic books, as this students a diehard fan of DC in particular: stemming from Lizbeth’s childhood desire to become Starfire which led to a dozen imaginary games forming. He also owns a pet gecko - Brucey - who he actually painted the scale print of onto his instruments, having a huge love for all reptiles and he’ll come out of his shell to correct assumptions or incorrect facts stated about them: something that makes his friends laugh every time thanks to the fire he displays.

This next student has been drawing and writing all the time since before she can remember, and her dream is to be a children’s book author. She’s naturally quiet and doesn’t like being the center of attention, so she was unsure about how she would handle the actual teaching aspect of this class, but the idea of learning more about kids and how they learn and develop was so important to her that she decided it was worth a try anyway, and she’s been gradually getting more comfortable with that part with Ms. Daskal’s support. She’s also found that her introverted nature, as well as her gentle and cheerful personality, has helped her connect with the quieter and shyer kids in the preschool class, and which has been very beneficial for some of the children. She admires the way [name_f]Zaya[/name_f] Breckenridge and Nihal Subandi go out of their way to support the children’s art and storytelling and tries to do the same.

This student is seventeen years old and 5’6" with freckles, dark eyes and curly black hair worn on the shorter side. She prefers bright, vivid colors and generally keeps up with fashion trends. Besides her art and drawing, she really loves games, both board games and online ones. She doesn’t do a lot of outdoorsy things, as she has a fear of wild animals after having to go to the hospital for a bite from a raccoon she tried to pet when she was six – she still has a scar on her hand. She tries not to let that fear show when she’s out on the playground with the preschoolers and they’re all excitedly watching a squirrel in a tree or something, but she is firm with them about not approaching or bothering the animals they see, something that [name_u]Sam[/name_u] always backs her up on.

She’s trans, and came out when she was twelve years old, after quietly exploring the idea for several years beforehand. Her mom and dad have been very supportive, including making sure she’s had access to the healthcare she needs and helping her legally change her name, after ensuring that she was confident in her choice and helping her make sure it was one that she would be just as happy with as an adult as she was as an eighth grader. They also made sure she had a bat mitzvah instead of the bar mitzvah they had been planning. Her then-four-year-old brother has been her enthusiastic supporter and pointedly corrects anyone who uses her old name, which doesn’t happen very often anymore as it’s been five years.

Her Jewish faith and culture is important to her even though she’s not that formally observant. She appreciates Ms. Daskal’s support with regards to making sure that things like exams and important class activities don’t interfere with major holidays – not just in her own class but also as something she holds her colleagues accountable for. She also enjoys planning class celebrations for the preschoolers for the holidays she celebrates, giving any Jewish children in the class the opportunity to see their culture celebrated and giving the other kids the chance to learn about the holidays and celebrate diversity. She and Nihal Subandi have some shared experiences with being part of minority religions and sometimes talk about that, as well as sharing their artistic interests.

She’s friendly with [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] Baum, as they’ve also taken some creative writing electives together, and they both appreciate hearing about what the other one is working on. She also hangs out with [name_u]Shiloh[/name_u] Bouchard and has her artistic nature in common with them, although since this student tends to focus more on visual arts like drawing, she appreciates hearing Shiloh’s perspective on fields like musical theatre and architecture.

The next class takes place at the Jennings-McGill School of Arts: a university located in Bainhurst - the closest city to St. James’s [name_u]Marsh[/name_u], only being about a half hour drive away. Our little town tends to promote the institution quite regularly thanks to one of its founders, [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] " JT " [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] McGill, having been born there and he chose to remain even after the building was completed, still having descendants who live in there to this day: with his granddaughter, [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] McGill, helping found the local community college to make higher education more accessible.

This class is for animation course - consisting of 30 students - and it’s a more recent addition to the diplomas offered by the uni, one that was long anticipated and subsequently getting a place can become a battle for some due to the high influx of applications. It’s taught by a more recent addition to the faculty, following the retirement of the original professor, and he’s worked hard to ensure he isn’t overshadowed; having heard a lot about his predecessor and feeling a need to prove himself. [name_m]Prior[/name_m] to teaching, he worked in Tokyo - where he studied and is half-Japanese on his fathers’ side, beginning his career in animation primarily through indie and arthouse films that emphasise the surreal or mystical above all else. He found living both there and in Sendai very fulfilling parts of his life, bringing him close to his paternal grandparents - who he lived lived and looked after while completing his degree - as well as embracing more of his father’s culture and feeling more confident in expressing this part of him subsequently. While studying, he met his wife, [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] - known affectionately as “Emmy”: a fellow artist and international student who had come from [name_u]Germany[/name_u] to study fashion, with the two being introduced as she wanted to polish her language skills before heading into her second year, and things blossomed quickly between them from there onwards. Now in their mid-40s, they have two children of their own - a 17 year old son, Atsumori “Mo”, and 11 year old daughter Hizuru “Zuzu” - and both have inherited the family propensity for the arts, something encourages but never forced onto them by their parents.

He’s 5’9" and slim in his build, with cropped black hair and always wears glasses, after getting tired of contact lenses in his late 20s: preferring a silver rimmed pair of spectacles that match his sleek, monochrome heavy sense of style - typically wearing black, white and red with few other colours randomly appearing. Japanese traditional artwork and patterns are the main exception to this rule though, appearing on items he owns - especially shirts and jackets - but appear sparingly, and are usually saved for date nights with [name_f]Emmy[/name_f]. He also has his ears pierced and opts for silver jewelry to fit with his glasses, typically wearing a pair of simple hoops his sister-in-law crafted as a wedding gift for him; however he does own a wonderful pair of dragons that are bought out for graduation. Suit jackets are almost always incorporated into what he wears, varying depending on the location; but more recently he has relied on jumpers that are appropriately formal for his tastes. At 24 he opted to get a tattoo - the only one of his to date - depicting an angel winged cat on his left shoulder that, that he’s actually grown very fond of…but not quite enough to consider getting another.

When he isn’t involved in side projects or preparing for classes, he enjoys photography and jazz music or going on hikes with his younger brother. In his teens he was an avid bass guitar player too, but gave this up to focus on animating, passing the instrument down to his cousin’s daughter when she became interested in pursuing practice herself. Having a pretty serious demeanor when it comes to teaching, this hides his great sense of humour that students tend to pick up on more gradually, as he too has has become comfortable around those he’s tutoring. He’s always open about his own struggles with confidence and self-belief, being particularly empathetic towards students who are going through the same struggles, and does his best to offer support, advice and balanced feedback. In spite of having a reputation for being a little aloof, his markings are infamously fair and he always separates the artwork from its creator when marking - unless parricular circumstances dictate otherwise and it’s clear someone is trying to make a statement for all the wrong reasons.

Prof. [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] ‘Drew’ Toshiaki Yoshida

The first student is an 18 year old girl who grew up loving the hand drawn style of Studio Ghibli films, and started trying drawing her favorite characters from the age of 8. She’s a bit obsessed with the movies, and is excited to be starting her animation courses in her first semester of college. She’s thrilled to be enrolled in Professor Yoshida’s class, as he has a great reputation and a love of the classics, like her.

She grew up locally, having attended school in Bainhurst for her whole education, but wanted to stay local for college due to some family obligations. She didn’t mind, knowing that the arts school was so well regarded. She is staying at home with her family, which consists of a single dad (a widower), an older brother with autism and moderate support needs, and a younger sister with muscular dystrophy. She aims to continue to help her dad out while also going to school part time and working part time (as a cake decorator - not something she wants to pursue as a career, but it’s been a fun way to use her art!).

She’s 5’6, with a medium build. She is somewhat toned from daily walks with their dog, a chow chow mix, named Latte. She has medium length straight, dark brown hair that she prefers to wear down, and light brown eyes. She wears glasses, and favors clear frames, with a somewhat circular lens. She likes to wear broken in, faded jeans along with hoodies with cute patterns on them. When it’s cold, she can be seen wearing beanies regularly - her dad, an ex-military man, taught all of his kids that “heat escapes from your head”, and she took that to heart. Her favorite beanie is a knit gray one, with flecks of all the rainbow colors in the yarn.

She is currently dating someone she met over the summer, a guy who started working in the auto parts store next to the bakery. He’s funny, and she really appreciates being able to laugh - thinks that’s the most attractive thing! - and he is hardworking. She doesn’t know how serious it’s going to be, but likes being appreciated, and the chance to go for date nights.

Her life doesn’t leave much time for hobbies, which is one of the reasons she decided to study art - something she loves. When she does have a spare moment, she likes to swim at the local pool, or design her dream home in her mind…

The next student is a freshman who is not from the area but decided to come here to pursue a degree in cinema art and science. He is the youngest of two kids, with an older sister who attends [name_u]Texas[/name_u] A&M University. He is very into flannels and dressing up for the fall season, usually with a different colored beanie on his head every day, thanks to [name_f]Anouk[/name_f]. His family has a goldendoodle named [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], and it’s been hard for him to be away from his puppy. This student is currently in a relationship with another freshman on campus, and the two of them have been getting along swimmingly for the past few months, their first date being at the nearby apple orchard. His hobbies include studying filmmaking and cinematics, reading fantasy novels, and playing the guitar. He is around 5’11 and has an average, though maybe slightly slimmer, build. He is a decent student, but sometimes gets lost in a book and forgets to do the actual work he needs to get done.

  2. [name_u]William[/name_u] [name_m]Robinson[/name_m] " [name_u]Billy[/name_u] - [name_m]Bob[/name_m] " [name_m]Niven[/name_m]

The next student originally comes from [name_f]Colombia[/name_f]. Her biological father was involved in organised crime and her mother gave her up for adoption when she was just two years old, fearing for her safety. She was almost immediately adopted by a Korean-American family, the [name_m]Parks[/name_m] , as it was an international adoption agency. Shortly after coming home found out that she is going to have a sister - now 18-year old [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] " [name_u]Lexi[/name_u] " [name_u]Park[/name_u], who plays the string bass at Ms. Haskins’ class

This student is 20 and a sophromore. All throughout middle school she faced bullying because of her family being a different race and ethnicity than she is. The bullying then escalated to remarks about her weight, as she was and still is admittedly a little chubby. It wasn’t until the first acts of physical violence and lunch stealing that the school administration decided to do something, despite being alarmed multiple times The student is traumatized to this day and has just finished therapy after regurarly attending it for 4 years. Her therapist, [name_f]Noemi[/name_f] , now believes that the student largely worked through her trauma and is equipped with the right, healthy coping mechanisms to deal with stress reactions and PTSD. A large part of the reason why she was able to end frequent therapy sessions relatively quickly was her incredible willingnes to work with and open up to professionals, as she always has her heart on her hand Most importantly, she recieved tremendous amounts of love and support from her family.

Having now embraced the multitude of cultures she is connected to , she recently began learning Spanish to reconnect with her Colombian heritage. Her mom even began buying coffee exclusively coming from that country to help her do that! She is glad to study locally and be able to go home every weekend, as she couldn’t imagine leaving [name_u]Lexi[/name_u] in the middle of her own identity crisis - the sisters both recently found out that [name_u]Lexi[/name_u] 's birth was possible because of an egg donor from Taiwan. They were both quite shocked and [name_u]Lexi[/name_u] doesn’t know how to rebuild her relationship with her mom, which began being rocky because of the news. Her sister is sad because of the rift in their mother-daughter bond, but encourages her to take her time and work through her emotions, always offering a listening ear.

Animation is something she truly loves and began studying it because of how well she was able to channel her emotions through it. The journey of finding oneself and practicing self-love is something she really wants to incorporate into her work. Her dream is to work in a big studio like Disney or [name_u]Dream[/name_u] Works. Mr. Yoshida tries to get it through to her that working in big studios can require tough deadlines to be met, which could be tough considering her being prone to stress. She understands his point, but is determined to be part of a huge team and let her work be known by a worldwide audience of kids and adults who should hear the message of self-acceptance, no matter where you come from or how you look like.

At 5’7’’ she is taller than all the members of her family. Having recently dyed her hair partially turqouise and partially lavender, she is regarded as an e-girl and always observing what’s trending on social meda apps like Tik-Tok. Having a mixture of goth and kawaii aesthetics, her favourite color combinations are baby pink and grey , as well as amaranthine and black. She often wears heavy make-up as well as henna tatoos and despite her plus-size figure is determined to show everyone that you can be fashionable at every size .

The next student has emigrated from Venezuela in order to complete the degree of her dreams, although the US isn’t exactly a new place for her, as she’s often come over to visit her maternal aunt, uncle and cousins - who set up home in [name_f]Florida[/name_f] when she was 4. She’s always had a soft spot for stop motion, and was delighted when Prof. [name_u]Drew[/name_u] not only encouraged this passion but began looking into ways for her to continue experimenting with it, alongside the digital art based work she’s picked up over the years. Since as far back as she can remember, acclaimed animator and director [name_u]Nick[/name_u] [name_u]Park[/name_u] has been her idol, with her own work usually having a light-hearted and humorous tone to it - something that isn’t the most obvious thanks to her demeanor being laidback and fairly quiet, even once she feels more comfortable in a setting. During her spare time she loves nothing more than going on long walks through botanical gardens or quieter forests - listening to her walkman - or going swimming in the sea, going even in the colder months; sometimes accompanied by her friends, but she’s someone very comfortable in her own company.

Due to her being a fluent Spanish speaker, she’s become friends with [name_u]Rae[/name_u] as the course has progressed, and has introduced her to elements of Venezuelan culture - especially artwork and cooking, the latter of which has made her popular in her student flat, as they regularly have big meals together where everyone cooks a different dish. She’s also supportive of Rae’s self-acceptance and supports her in whatever way she can, being inspired by her own mom’s - who faced a lot of prejudice and setbacks when they began the journey to starting their own family, now having 2 kids: this student and her 16-year-old brother, [name_m]Quintero[/name_m].

At 5’0", she’s a very petite person, and is often compared to a pixie by her significant other: a fellow student of the university - as a combination of how light-footed she is and also the sharpness to the tips of her ears, which are extensively pierced: twice in the lobes; anti-tragus and forward helix (left ear); rook and tragus (right ear). Her mid-back length hair is somewhere between dark blonde and light brown, but it’s shifted more towards the former recently after she got light gold highlights added, due to them complimenting her soft green eyes. Having a fairy grunge aesthetic with pixiecore elements mixed in, oversized cardigans and fingerless gloves are always worn by her - usually with chunky Mary-Jane’s on her feet or her favourite moss coloured trainers; uniquely patterned tights, slip dresses and tunics also being regular features. She has two tattoos as well: a toadstool on her right bicep and a nymph on her back, just below the base of her neck.

I love Ana’s description - especially her style

The next student is returning to school after rehabilitating from a car accident that left him needing multiple surgeries. He’s dealing with chronic pain, and is trying to be extremely cautious with self-medicating, as he lost his closest cousin to an overdose when the two were 15 years old. He is ambulatory, walking with a cane on bad days - he decorated the cane with fireflies, his favorite bug, because they are a light in the dark. His boyfriend calls him a firefly, and it’s the best compliment, one that he’s decided to make permanent, with a small firefly tattoo on his wrist.

He’s been interested in animation for as long as he can remember, really loving stop-motion animation, as well as computer generated design. He considers himself an animation generalist, and thinks he would be great on any team. He’s also interested in nature, and would love to use his artistic skills to emphasize conservation.

He grew up in a family that was blended, with both of his parents remarrying and having children after having his older brother and himself. He tries to be close with his step-parents and siblings, but it’s not always easy, with hot tempers, jealousy, and hurt. He is a bit of a peacemaker, while his older brother tends to be the one who lashes out. He did get close to his step-mom, the two sharing a love of creating rituals. Their favorite ritual is french toast and coffee on Sunday mornings, while solving the NYT crossword - even if they have to do it over Skype. His boyfriend, James, has adopted this ritual as well.

He’s 5’10, with curly dark brown hair with an undercut. He has dark green eyes, a birthmark in the shape of a heart near his left eye, and facial hair that is usually stubbly, but he’s thinking about letting it grow out into a beard. He favors thick sweaters, jeans, and work boots - his favorite is his pair of 12-hole forest green Doc Martens. He used to be what his mom would call “healthy sized”, but lost considerable weight during his rehabilitation. James is promising a tour of all of his favorite restaurants to help him recover some of that weight.

This next student is loving the revival of 90s style. From the cartoons to the fashion, he is enjoying taking in all of the Nickelodeon animation his parents grew up watching. He is the youngest of five kids- three girls and two boys (Camryn, [name_u]Kendall[/name_u], [name_u]Tatum[/name_u], and his brother Luke). For a kid who never wanted hand-me-downs, you can always find him at vintage clothing stores.

He is an easy going guy, always ready to crack a joke and make someone feel better. His art has always been a way of cheering someone up or adding something special to their day. His trademark is drawing cartoon characters on post it notes and sticking them anywhere he feels like it. While drawing is his passion, he also enjoys skateboarding and parkour. His parents dropped the ball on curbing his fearlessness so at this point in his life they embrace his passions at all levels.

He is 6’ 3" with an early years [name_u]Chandler[/name_u] [name_m]Bing[/name_m] haircut. He has a full sleeve of Bob’s Burger’s tattoos and is debating on a full [name_u]Rocket[/name_u] [name_u]Power[/name_u] or Rugrats sleeve. His siblings lovingly nicknamed him Twister for his love of adrenaline activities. He is always wearing neon colored vans and wild printed shorts, rarely wears long pants. His skateboard is covered in stickers from his favorite bands covering up the original robot artwork.

He and [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] have become buddies through the class and he’s looking forward to doing a project together when they have the chance. Until then they will settle for getting boba tea after class together.

This next student is majoring in arts education. She doesn’t have a lot of experience with animation specifically, but it’s important to her to explore many different art forms so that she can give her future students a well-rounded education. She’s only a freshman, despite being twenty-five years old, because she took several years off of school due to life circumstances. When she was newly nineteen years old and just a few weeks into her first attempt at her freshman year, her parents were killed in a fire, and this student became the guardian of her two little siblings, Bayzil and Lylak, then eleven and nine. She dropped out and found a job as a delivery driver in order to make money to raise her siblings and to support the medical needs of Lylak, who was also in the fire and survived but with life-altering injuries. Now, six years later, having managed to build up some savings for tuition and with the kids being a little more self-sufficient at seventeen and fifteen, she’s returning to school to finally try again at realizing her dream of introducing the world of art to children as an art teacher.

This student is 5’10" with long red curls and a willowy build. She has an eclectic aesthetic combining clothing designs from different eras and styles in interesting ways. Her name is in the same style as her siblings’ names, which for most of her life has been something that irritated her given the frustration with getting people to spell it right, but after what happened to her parents, she’s emotionally drawn to things connected to them in a way that makes her see their choice in what to name her in a more positive way.

Besides her love for all kinds of art, this student enjoys learning languages. She hasn’t had enough spare time to become fully fluent in anything, but she’s reasonably competent at holding a conversation in both ASL and [name_u]French[/name_u], and she would like to learn Mandarin since it’s the most spoken language in the world. She also likes collecting stamps, because she is fascinated by the way the artists who create them can fit such clear and meaningful images into such a small space, and the stories they tell about the cultures and time periods that produced them.

Between working, going to school and raising her siblings, this student doesn’t have much time in her life for social things, but she’s friendly with her classmates. She admires [name_u]Rae[/name_u] and [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] for the way they use their art to communicate ideas like self-acceptance and the importance of conserving nature respectively – she’s still trying to figure out what she wants to say to the world with her own work, and Professor Yoshida has been supporting her in figuring it out throughout the class. She also feels warmly toward Billy-Bob as he reminds her of her little brother Bayzil, also a bookworm and guitarist. As she hasn’t had much time for things like romance or self-reflection over the past several years, she’s just starting to figure out that she thinks she might be a lesbian, a process sparked by her feelings toward a particular other student, a senior closer to this student’s own age, as she just can’t seem to get her mind off of her.

The next student is Polish and transferred to the university of Wrocław for her senior year, after years and years of her aunt nagging her to come visit. [name_m]Said[/name_m] aunt has been living in the US for over seventeen years , but stayed very well-connected to her family , mainly through social-media frequently used by [name_f]Gen[/name_f] X like Facebook or WhatsApp. Let’s also not forget about letters she used to write all the time before the Internet era!
The student has a very hard time adjusting to American culture and most importantly the huge portions that American cuisine typically offers - while Polish cuisine is fatty and meat-rich, the frequency of cooking meals at home allows everyone to pick their own portion sizes. To this girl even small American portions seem huge and she is quite paranoid about putting on weight, an anxiety that has been lessened through signing up for the university softball team and installing MyFitnessPal.

With looks being a large part of her life, she participated in Polish beauty paegents, mainly within her own region, and managed to come in second place once back when she was eighteen. She is the object of [name_f]Desirae[/name_f] 's affections and [name_f]Desirae[/name_f] tries to come up to her and show her around as much as she can, even if the girl remains very shy and non-talkative most of the time. With her hourglass figure , long legs and creative use of bobby pins - she typically uses several of them for her updos instaed of a standard hair tie - she barely remains unnoticed, no matter how hard she tries to be so by wearing rather mundane , neutral colours and trying to undermine her body shape with oversized sweaters. The desire to remain invisible comes from her lack of confidence in [name_f]English[/name_f] despite an offical certification confirming high fluency, as well as the fact her aunt is rather conservative and so is her whole family. She is afraid that she may seem ignorant to her new friends from a rather progressive environment, no matter how many hours she spends trying to educate herself by reading online about US social climate.

She recently opened up more due to the softball team , where she became friendly with [name_u]Kiran[/name_u] Sharma’s sister. She also became a rather active member of the local Polish diaspora where she became close with [name_f]Edyta[/name_f] Sigurđardóttir’s family, even learning some Icelandic in the process! She often cooks pierogi, a type of Polish dumplings, with the houswives who are also active there. She doesn’t have quite have the courage to bring them to her student flat yet, as she’s sure she’d never beat [name_f]Ana[/name_f] and her delicious Venezuelan treats.

She stays in touch with her best friend from Wrocław, [name_f]Ida[/name_f] through Skype and Messanger App. She also draws a lot and is a perfectionist when animating her drawings with a computer program. She likes and takes inspiration from shows popular in the 00s era of Cartoon Network and her favourite is Teen Titans , especially the rather dark and troubled but ultimately loyal character [name_u]Raven[/name_u].

Summary

The next student originally comes from the Tamil-speaking part of Sri Lanka. He was born without his right arm due to problems that occured in the womb during his mom’s pregnancy, which was high risk. He was also born prematurely via C-section and his parents refuse to talk about his early childhood at all. When he was two and a half years old his parents decided to apply for a visa to be able to move to his maternal aunt’s house. The aunt , Doita , has always gone exclusively by " Dot " ever since moving to the US. After having a brief acting career in the nineties , starring mainly in Indie movies, she decided to place her artistic drive into renovating a Victorian home and making a cafe out of it, called “Dot’s spot”. Spending a lot of time in that family-friendly space and helping his aunt clean, this student decided to join this class in order to handle tiny customers with better patience and less awkardness - especially considering that he often didn’t know what to say to them when asked about his disability. Another reason was wanting to be closer to Zaya and see her more often , although he only ever admitted it to Dot and blushed like crazy during it.

Alexis , his best friend, loves them too. They, however , tend to argue often about which ones are better - B-tier zombie ones or Indian masala ones. He also bonds with Alexis over the close relationship with siblings - this guy’s sister has always supported him and unlike his parents was open to talk about feelings and insecurities instead of telling him to just “suck it up” .

Once he tried to emulate Bollywood actor Sharukh Khan by wearing sunglasses, a white shirt with one open button and using gel on his hair. It did go over pretty well , but only in the jokes and laughing departament. He promised himself to not experiment with style anymore, but recently began considering getting an ashley piercing and growing his hair out. However, his aunt and sister think it’s a terrible idea , while Alexis encourages him to go ahead. The 17 year old doesn’t really know what to do

Summary

The next student isn’t the most fond of geography as a subject, but she loves being taught by Mrs. Fereday and Miss O’Neil. Her dad’s a pretty well-known musician - belonging to an Icelandic metal band - and she shares his music tastes, currently being obsessed with Avantasia. Both her parents were born in Europe - her dad being from [name_f]Iceland[/name_f], her mom Poland - and as she’s gotten older, she’s embraced these cultures. She’s started to become best friends with Rosie Eleanor Webster from Mr. Bradley’s English class - formerly having been somewhat of a loner thanks to feeling insecure about her dad’s status, and having no judgment about the financial status of Rosie’s family. As an only child, she’s gotten good at keeping herself busy - as her mom has a busy schedule running her own literary editing company - and alongside playing the guitar, she enjoys playing tennis and chess, as well as trying to train the rambunctious family dog: Meringue, a Keeshond. She recently got permission to dye her bobbed hair dark magenta - which she’s very proud of - and resembles her mother strongly, sharing the same dark grey eyes and oval shaped face. Fitting with her parentage, she dresses in a mix of gothic and punk fashion - with long skirts being her favourite clothing items and her cousins teaching her how to paint spiderweb designs on her nails.

The next student is a fine artist with a love of intertwining her intricate style with the fluidity of animation, having begun working on shorts in her final year of high school after realising how much it enhanced her enjoyment of artistry. She came to the school from Seattle after deciding on a need for a change of scenery without being too far from her family - having an especially close relationship with her younger sister [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] ‘Thea’, who has Downs Syndrome and just celebrated her seventeenth birthday. [name_m]Art[/name_m] is a passion shared by not just the sisters’ but also their dad, who runs a small gallery that focuses on uplifting lesser know names and has a specific emphasis on those with disabilities or who’ve faced mental health struggles. This student has faced anxiety since she was fifteen - starting after her mom had to have sudden surgery on a previously missed brain tumor, and the fear and stress this caused never quite left her - and attends therapy still, having been supported by her family in this decision. She tends to not open up about this much - having faced invasive questions before which upset her considerably - but regularly uses her social media to promote awareness and acceptance of mental health; having designed multiple fliers for uni-based services and belonging to the society centred on open discussions about mental health, which has helped her feel more comfortable in speaking about her experiences, and has led to her becoming close with one of her classmates who also attends. [name_m]Art[/name_m] remains her favoured means of expressing her feelings - often depicting people embodying emotions and broader concepts, with water colour being her favourite style when she isn’t going for animation or digital art. Causes she supports and believes in are the other main subjects of her work, having become more bold as she’s grown up when it comes to airing her opinions and beliefs - especially anything to do with uplifting [name_f]Thea[/name_f].

At 5’2", her figure’s bottom heavy in spite of being otherwise slight and she has a fair complexion, with a light dusting of freckles on her neck and cheeks. She recently dyed the tips of her curtain fringe pale, rose pink in order to compliment the light strawberry blonde of her hair - her favourite feature which is usually worn loose to accentuate the slight natural curl to its texture. Her eyes are dark grey and she tends to wear silver jewelry to compliment this: including her medusa piercing having a crystal gem, as does her navel bar. The aesthetic she favours is a pearl inspired y2k vibe - preferring soft shades of blue, pink and peach; sheer, satin/silk and denim fabrics; midi skirts, slip dresses, faux fur edged cardigans/jackets and tank tops, often paired with healed shoes as she admits to enjoying feeling a little taller. She’s someone with a great investment in fashion too: thrifting and buying second hand steals in order to cultivate her aesthetic strongly (even if this means she’s been known to use her sink yo wash clothes as she’d bankrupt herself relying on her dorms laundry room). Cute socks are evidently a weakness as she’s always on the hunt for them, and she tends to wear some item to do with strawberries - as they’re the favourite fruit of her older brother, [name_m]Montague[/name_m] ‘Monty’, who’s just got engaged to his boyfriend and is in the midst of wedding planning.

She’s been in a relationship with [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] since they were involved in a group project - immediately being interested in his tattoos, and these chats led to them spending a lot of time together. Parkour isn’t something she’s too interested in doing but taping it is - as videography is a hobby she’s picked up from her future brother-in-law [name_u]Ren[/name_u], and she loves capturing others participating in it. Climbing is something she enjoys though, and she’s hoing on going freehand soon thanks to one of her friends being very experienced - being someone naturally at ease with heights; also enjoying zipwire activity and diving. Sewing is another talent of her’s - having begun when she started upcycling clothes to sell on Etsy alongside her art prints - and she’s done commissions for friends and classmates too, although right now she’s busy working on a coat for [name_f]Thea[/name_f] which is a [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] present. She tends to be someone a little withdrawn and aloof at the best of times, always polite and helpful but to some this is marked by a distance, usually in how she hangs back from opening up about her personal life much. This hides how sentimental she’s prone to being - owning an ancient toy piglet named [name_f]Petula[/name_f] who accompanied her to uni - and she puts a lot of thought into dates with [name_u]Tyler[/name_u], having an eye for detail and good memory.

Often her parents or [name_f]Thea[/name_f] will send her photos of [name_m]Dmitri[/name_m] - her beloved Ragdoll cat who remained at home with them - and she has a little collage dedicated to the feline, who her mom actually rescued: being an animal welfare and rescue worker. Her best friend also attends Jennings-McGill and they’re often seen hanging around together, having been born on the same day with their mom’s meeting at the same antenatal swimming class. She acknowledges in many ways she’s had the easier life than her closest pal and worries she’s taken it for granted sometimes, speaking to [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] and [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] about this when she sometimes accompanies them for bubble tea - albeit her attendance is infrequent as she doesn’t want to intrude on their hangouts. In high school she had a girlfriend who was very clingy - bordering on possessive - and this has made her very aware of how important it is for couples to have space, never wanting her boyfriend to feel suffocated by the relationship. As of now, she isn’t quite sure what she wants to do next - as her dream of making independent films is a longshot in her own mind - but part of her is considering following in her mom’s foosteps for the time being and working with animals while continuing to pursue artistry.

@moonwriteen [name_u]Kiran[/name_u] is the perfect best friend for [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] - thank you!

@PaperGirlAC Okay so Tyler’s whole aesthetic was such a vibe I had to introduce a significant other for him… I hope that’s alright!

The next student is a Sikh man who just turned 20 at the beginning of the semester. He is an only child, and is used to being one of the only practicing Sikhs in his community. He is thrilled that Bainhurst has an active Sikh community, as it was important to his parents when he selected this school. Originally having studied theater production design, this student found a love of 2-D design when taking a previous class with Professor Yoshida.

He’s 6’0 with a slim build. He keeps his beard neatly trimmed, and tends to wear izods or button-down shirts, color-coordinating his turbans when possible. He takes pride in the way he looks, and has come to accept the attention that comes with it. His hair is thick and curly, and his brown eyes have long lashes, making them appear as though they’re lined with kohl.

He feels like he wants to be the best representation of a Sikh man he can be - that’s how his parents taught him - while also staying humble. He appreciates [name_u]Rae[/name_u] because she straddles several cultures, and he sometimes feels like he has to be “the friendly/jolly/funny guy in the turban” just to stop people from expressing their prejudices. [name_u]Rae[/name_u] has told him that she sees him for who he is, and those words were surprisingly comforting. He also appreciates Tyler’s good vibes, and is setting up a sky diving day for them - and anyone else who wants to go.

He is open to dating outside his religion, and is realizing that he is bi-curious. He’s cautious, though, because he knows what it’s like to have social minority status, and doesn’t want to claim something that’s not his own. [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] has expressed that he’s welcome to use him as a sounding board, and he and [name_u]James[/name_u] are also close.

He also has been trading food and recipes with [name_f]Ana[/name_f] and [name_f]Jola[/name_f] - sharing his mom’s highly guarded recipe for milk fudge (burfi) in exchange for their treats.

During downtime, he likes to geocache, take mini-adventures, or just go for a day at the beach. He strives to find that perfect combination of adventure and chill.

This next student is a a sophomore majoring in game design at the nearby Bainhurst Institute of Technology. The two schools are in a consortium together, allowing students enrolled in one of them to take classes at the other, something that was a major selling point for this student when they chose to enroll at BIT. They went into game design, focusing on game graphics, because it seemed like the ideal way to combine their dual passions for technology and art, as well as their deep interest in games themselves. They are fascinated by vintage games like the popular arcade titles from the seventies and eighties (their favorite is Asteroids) and the ways those developers managed to do so much within the technical limitations of the time, but they also love that modern games have so much more space for detailed storytelling. In their spare time they’re currently working on an indie RPG project about space wizards, but mission creep brought on by enthusiasm has grown the scope of the project beyond what they can handle on their own. This issue is exacerbated by their a little bit needlessly rebellious nature, where being told they maybe can’t do something gets a “now I have to, I’ll show you” type of reaction.

They’ve always been very artistic and had a love of painting and drawing, but they haven’t had as much of a chance to share that part of themself with others who feel the same way because most of their friendships have been built on their more technological interests – they’ve been on their school’s robotics team since middle school and they make friends online through the multiplayer games they play. Therefore, hanging out on the Jennings-McGill campus for the purpose of taking this class there has been refreshing for them because they get to be around other artistic people and share these interests. Besides technology and art, they enjoy telling jokes, and their favorite food by far is fish.

They have a short, soft build and fluffy black curls. They enjoy light-colored, casual clothing and don’t necessarily try too hard to cultivate an aesthetic, which makes them stand out a little more at Jennings-McGill than it does at BIT. They don’t wear jewelry except for their star of [name_u]David[/name_u] necklace and a watch with a medic-alert tag for their type one diabetes, but they do enjoy other accessories like hats – they wear a lot of baseball caps with some kind of video game or comic book reference embroidered where the team logo should be. (Never a real baseball team’s cap – sports give them hives.)

They’re generally a helpful and supportive friend, and they’re starting to build some friendships at Jennings-McGill even though it’s not their school. They hang out with Billy-Bob, as they have a shared interest in fantasy stories, and they relate to Rae’s ambition and desire to be involved in big projects.

The next student comes from incredibly wealthy circles. His mom is related to Belgian nobility. She manages a profitable Arabian horse stable with her twin sister [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f]. On the other hand, his dad owns a phosphate rock mine in [name_u]Senegal[/name_u]. They met while learning Esperanto together at a camp for advanced speakers and got married just seven months after that - ending up with 4 kids, twins [name_m]Lazare[/name_m] and [name_m]Anatole[/name_m] , a daughter [name_f]Celine[/name_f] and their youngest son - this guy. As the baby of the family he grew up incredibly sheltered and surrounded by nannies and staff in his home. It was his maid of Venezuelan nationality - [name_f]Beatriz[/name_f] - who taught him basic life skills like doing his own laundry, washing the dishes , cleaning the roomn and so on. She also shared his culture with him pretty eagerly, arguably becoming a second mother to him. He is [name_f]Ana[/name_f] 's boyfriend and impressed her not only because of how knowledgable he was about Venezua , but also for two other reasons. He is very humble and charitable , trying to never brag about or show off much wealth. He also can speak four languages - [name_u]French[/name_u] , Wolof , Esperanto and [name_f]English[/name_f] - which makes him a true polyglot and is really impressive for [name_f]Ana[/name_f] , who sees this skill as proof that he is very open to several cultures and cannot wait to travel with him if things ever do get serious between them.

As a biracial guy, he experienced a fair amount of prejudice and intrusive questions about his heritage, "Yeah, you said Belgium , but where are you really from?’ has been a haunting one throught his life. It’s especially painful for him because he feels like the connection to his mother’s native land is a core part of his identity, even going as far as calling himself a Belgian patriot. He would have definitely stayed there and study at the [name_u]Royal[/name_u] Academy Of Fine Arts in Brussels if it wasn’t for the fact that he wanted to break away from his overprotective family and finally be able to live on his own. His main coping mechanism when dealing with the problem of prejudice was using self-depricating humor , but [name_f]Ana[/name_f] made sure he values himself enough to not take these jokes to heart too much, making him aware that he is a great boyfriend.

A true hipster, at 5’10 inches he stays noticeable by wearing clothing with vintage motifs, his favourite being vinyls. He also frequently wears black , ripped skinny jeans and beanies or newsboy caps - always either yellow or orange. He thinks they go rather well with his curly, jet black hair that reach just below the midpoint of his back. He also has facial hair but hasn’t yet been able to grow a full beard. He is content with the landing strip goatee that he has. Although that is his signature look for now he regurarly goes to thrift shops and even buys or resells clothes using platforms like Vinted.

If he isn’t riding his bike through the city, listening to alternative music on headphones turned full-blast or trying to get a stand-up comedy geek , he probably studies hard - Animation is his main major and as much as he might pretend to be laid-back and not care, he really wants to prove himself to Mr. Yoshida. He particurarly enjoys animation series directed at adults - especially classics like Family [name_m]Guy[/name_m] or The Simpsons. While he does not really believe to be able to ever work on a project like that, he finds himself daydreaming about it nonetheless.

This next student is a sixteen-year-old freshman. She skipped two grades in elementary school because her academic skills were advanced, and as a result she graduated high school before she otherwise would have. As much as she appreciates the opportunities she’s had in her life, it’s been a bit awkward for her being the only kid her age in any of her classes (besides maybe the occasional case of a dual-enrolled high schooler in an evening class). As mature as she tries to present herself as being to try to fit in, there’s not much she can do about the fact that her mom drops her off at class every day because she’s too young to live on campus and still working on getting her driver’s license.

She is an art history student and is particularly interested in the early days of animation and all of the really weird classic black and white theatrical cartoons and the impact that the then-new art form had on society. Her own animation work takes inspiration from these classics, with surrealist themes, rubber hose inspired character designs, and big band soundtracks, but she wants to apply these inspirations to works addressing modern-day issues and ideas, such as cartoons with LGBTQ+ themes. (She is keenly aware of the racism that was prominent in early animation and makes a serious effort to avoid perpetuating it in her own work.)

She’s petitely built and baby-faced, which doesn’t do much to help in her efforts to avoid being seen as a little kid by her classmates, and she tries to dress maturely and professionally to make up for it. She enjoys pastels and warm colors, and wears simple wireframe glasses. Besides her interest in art history, she enjoys birdwatching and martial arts, and by her own admission she watches too much TV.

Although she feels awkward around her classmates due to her age, she’s managed to develop some friendships among them. She’s always wanted to try parkour, so she’s impressed with Tyler’s skills in the sport and has managed to convince him to teach her some basic techniques, and they also appreciate each other’s focus on a particular era of animation history, as different as the 30s and the 90s are from each other. She’s also friendly with [name_f]Anouk[/name_f], as they share some experiences as local students living off campus with their families and not having the traditional dorm life and classic college experience.

The next student is a young woman here on a student visa from Zhengzhou, in the Henan province of [name_f]China[/name_f]. She goes by an unusual object (noun) name in [name_f]English[/name_f] that doesn’t correspond with her Mandarin name. She already knew some [name_f]English[/name_f], and watched a lot of American TV to prepare. She’s been studying in the US for 18 months so far.

Her animation style is ethereal, almost abstract, with an emphasis on washed out colors and bold line movement. Not all of her classmates understand her esoteric style, but many find it intriguing.

She is living in student housing with her boyfriend, whom she met through the International Student club that is a joint social club between the Arts School and BIT. He is a Materials Engineering major from [name_m]Denmark[/name_m].

She is 5’3, with a curvy figure, dark tan complexion and short hair with long, floppy bangs that frame her heart-shaped face. She wears round-framed glasses, and favors an androgynous look. She tends to wear solid colors that she layers in a color block effect.

While she can be fairly introverted, she’s an optimist, and can be bubbly and funny when she gets comfortable. She has become close with [name_u]Coco[/name_u], starting with their similar art aesthetic, and she also enjoys hanging around Billy-Bob, because he feels so American to her - she’s charmed by his guitar playing. She appreciates [name_f]Jola[/name_f], too, even though they’re not close, because nobody recognizes when she’s feeling homesick quite like [name_f]Jola[/name_f] does.

The next student is 22 and chose to attend university later than his peers, thanks to dealing with setbacks on account of his struggles with depression - primarily stemming from his dad putting a lot of pressure on him to rush into the next sage of life, considering indecision to be a ‘weakness’, something that still impacts this young man now, and can make him a bit reckless as he fears hanging back. He’s genderfluid and primarily uses he/him pronouns, with his younger sister having made him a set of necklaces: all are beaded with the colours of the genderfluid flag, and their pendant signifies which pronouns this student goes by on a day-to-day basis. His mental health is something he tends to be quieter about though, not having much confidence thanks to this unhappiness, and he opts to commute to uni opposed to living on campus - having lived in Bainhurst for pretty much his whole life.

Thanks to how cruel their dad could be towards them, the siblings are now completely estranged from him, a decision their mom supports and respects; having been angered and disappointed by how her ex behaved, and harbors some guilt at what it did to their self-esteems, even if they hold nothing against her.

At 6’0", he’s got a stockier build and a peachy skintone, which is emphasised by how the ends of his sandy blonde hair are split dyed warm pink and bright green, brushing against his jaw and tends to always have an mussed texture to it. His eyes are a light shade of blue and to emphasise the colour he prefers blue gems in the jewelry he wears, be it earrings or his nose stud; the only notable exception being the strawberry tattoo on his left wrist which was done by his friend who’s undertaking an apprenticeship, and who he’s currently consulting about getting another - along with asking Ana for feedback on designs. Aesthetically he’s inspired by both arthoe and kinderwhore (especially layering and lace trim), albeit with an emphasis on bright colours and a diverse array of patterns/prints, as he feels they uplift his spirits - and don’t forget his legendary pair of bright yellow platform Crocs.

Animation wise his subjects tend to be very cartoonish, often anthropomorphic or heavily stylised, having been cultivated when he was a kid and loved doodling on every scrap of paper available. There’s a nonsensical whimsy to his content that’s more about embodying emotion than telling a straightforward narrative, and Professor Yoshida has been very encouraging about this - in particular the students use of 50s/60s forgotten music as backing for many projects. Fantasia is something that inspired him greatly - being his favourite film and he destroyed his VHS copy as a kid thanks to overplaying it - as well as his mom’s career, as she’s a director primarily based in children’s programming where unusual logic is prominent.

@brightdarkblue I hope Pixel works for her, as I thought it was cute and fittingly quirky for her?

The next student is a freshman and moved to Bainhurst a few years ago to live with her older sister , [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] . Back in Arkansas she lived in a trailer home with her parents , having been estranged from said sister due to not being allowed to speak with her. The reason was that [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] got married to a Japanese immigrant, Tomokazu , despite knowing that her family holds racist views aganist Asians. Fortunately due to a diverse group of friends she hanged around with in school , as well as thanks to the Internet - which she used only in the school library due to not having it at home - she realised how backward the views are and decided to run away from home at 15 by basically stealing money from her mother’s purse and hitchiking until she got to the state Bainhurst is in. What followed was contacting [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] on the phone for the first time in her life and being taken in. Then, a long legal battle ensued in which [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] was appointed as her younger sister’s sole guardian, with the court ruling that living with her would contribute to bettering the girl’s economic situation and her opportunties in life. She doesn’t look back on her journey fondly , realising that stealing and travelling with strangers were extremly irresponsible and dangerous choices. She knows that without the chance to live with [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] she probably wouldn’t be able to learn in a comfortable enough environmet to get straight A’s from 9th grade on. Outstanding academic performance allowed her to get a full-right scholarship at Jennings-McGill, where she decided to double major in Animation and Cinematography.

She is Billy-Bob’s girlfriend. The relationship with him allowed her to foster the good memories she has from living with her parents, as she still loves them dearly despite recognising that their views of the world were outdated and stifling for her potential.

She appreciates that they can both share the experience of living in a southern state and the pros and cons that come with it. Food , of course , is a major pro for both of them and the girl loves cooking for her boyfriend - especially the Possum Pie , which is Arkansas’ signature sweet treat complete with shortbread crust , chocolate pudding and whipped cream topping. The cooking skills she has also come in handy when she’s at home - especially now that [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] and Tomokazu’s family is growing bigger. Her first niece, [name_u]Kairi[/name_u] [name_f]Summer[/name_f] , entered the world eighteen months ago and is about to have a brother, [name_m]Hanzo[/name_m] [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] . Wendy’s cravings, as wild as they tend to be , are something that helps her improve her culinary craft. Launching her own bakery is a plan B if her main ambition of becoming an animator doesn’t work out.

As much as she may seem a cute [name_u]Southern[/name_u] girl when you talk to her, she probably doesn’t come off that way from looks alone. Her main aesthetics is spacecore. She loves wearing sweatshirts and T-shrits with the NASA logo. She typically pairs black or light blue shorts with leggins that have a galaxy depicted on them. Her hair is dyed turquoise, with an obre effect that makes it appeal baby blue on the ends. She proudly wears her curls loose or pins them into - you guessed it - space buns. She also incroporates a lot of blue, black and purple into her make-up, using make-up tricks and contact lenses to make her eyes appear big and black in an effort to resemble aliens. She will refuse to shut her mouth if you as much as mention the rivarly between SpaceX and Virgin Galatic , knowing every single little thing about the race to commercialise space travel. She calls herself the [name_m]Buzz[/name_m] Lightyear to Billy-Bob’s [name_m]Woody[/name_m] and the rest of the university plays along with it. The reason why she wants to become an animator is her ambition to make educational videos for kids which could make learning about the solar system and astronomy fun and entertaining for them.
