Name Thievery ;)

The names that I love are quickly being “stolen” by all my preggo friends and celebrities. I’m not currently pregnant [name]NOR[/name] am I sure that I ever want to be again…but I do like having names picked out, just in case. First, the Beckhams stole [name]Harper[/name], then a friend took [name]Reid[/name], and now another friend is about to steal [name]Fletcher[/name] (one of my all time favorite names!) so I’m hoping she has a girl. Anyways, I can’t find any suitable replacements for the names that I’ve lost to friends and will not name share with a friend or family member. I’m looking for suggestions… I don’t like weird names or common names. I HATE creative spelling of names. The worst names I can think of are Naveah and [name]Cyrus[/name] to give you an idea. I tend to like surnames for first names. Our last name starts with an O.

Some names that I like…

Girls - [name]Grier[/name], [name]Sutton[/name], [name]Mercer[/name]

Boys - [name]Archer[/name], [name]Shep[/name]

First, the Beckhams stole Harper No they did not steal Harper. Just because they use it doesn’t mean you can’t celeb-wise or not. You don’t “own” names. Anyone can use the names regardless of other people if you love it use it even if others close to you have. They will have different last names, and even if was the same name first and last why not? I used to be so uptight about name stealing that I realized it’s nothing you can control.

One of my best friends said they want to use River on a girl, and that was after I said I was using River in general. Now it’s one of her favorites. Doesn’t faze me anymore I’d actually be happy knowing a River because I don’t know if I’ll have kids or not in the future.

I still root for a Harper or the others you originally liked.

You are not expecting yet. If you are anything like me, you will change your mind a dozen times before you have an actual child to name. So, let them thieve away. You will come up with something else.

[name]Just[/name] because a celebrity names their kid something doesn’t mean you can’t. Chances are your child and said celebrity’s child will never meet, so it’s not really a problem.

While I understand that the Beckhams did not “steal” the name [name]Harper[/name] (hence the quotation marks in the first post and this one), they did cause it to gain even more in popularity which I hate. Name sharing amongst friends and families may be an option that doesn’t bother you but it does me. I don’t think it’s necessary. To each her own. I have always liked surnames as first names so I am sure that my style won’t change. I am just trying to fill my head with other names so I’m not upset if she uses [name]Fletcher[/name], not sure why some of you are so upset by my post.

To everyone who actually posted helpful suggestions, thank you! My niece’s middle name is [name]Sloan[/name] and I do love that name. There were several suggestions that I hadn’t thought of and liked. [name]Archer[/name] is still one of my favorites but I’m not sure about the nickname [name]Archie[/name]. I love [name]Shep[/name] but am not crazy about [name]Shepherd[/name] as the full name. [name]Presley[/name] is a beautiful girl’s name and has made it to my list! I also like [name]Thatcher[/name]. Very helpful suggestions. And you were spot on with my girl’s names being unisex, I don’t like girly names at all! Thanks!
