Name this Academy

Or any academy, really. I just need a name for a boarding school I’m sending my character to. It really doesn’t have to have anything to do with the story in any way, so I’m not going to bore you with the story details. I looked for a few minutes for a previous post like this one, but I didn’t find much. All ideas are welcome, anything you can come up with. Thanks in advance

I know this sounds dim, but can you give details…? No spark or creativity is going to rise from just an Academy? Is it preppy? Is it expensive? Is it old or new? etc.

Here’s something I can think of:
[name]Lord[/name] [name]Grantham[/name]'s Institute for Boys
[name]Anne[/name] [name]Wright[/name]'s Academy for Exceptional [name]Young[/name] Women
Lady [name]Napier[/name]'s School for the Gifted
[name]Helen[/name] Carpenter’s Centre for Girls
The Brittlebush Institute for Gifted Children
The Foxgrove State Institute for Boys and Girls
[name]Lord[/name] [name]Burrell[/name]'s Academy for Children
St. [name]Mathilde[/name]'s School for the Exceptional
St. [name]Adela[/name]'s Institute for the Peculiar

I’m sorry, you’re right, I didn’t give many details. Wrote it at around one in the morning, I think, so there’s that :). As a generic one, just something like Water Crest Academy. All of the stuff you gave was excellent though! The one I’m writing is preppy and exclusive and old. I just needed words to jog my imagination. [name]Love[/name] Foxgrove State Institute and Brittlebush, both help me, and you reminded me that the St. ones like St. [name]Mathilde[/name] always work. Sorry about the confusion

[name]Way[/name] helpful, thank you so much!

Is it a primary school or a secondary school? (or in [name]North[/name] American terms, is it elementary or middle/high?)

  • Is the school secular, or religious? If so, it might have a name influenced by a significant figure in its religion. And does the school specialise in anything? Sports? Performing Arts ([name]Drama[/name])? Literature? Modern Foreign Languages?
    You could do something like:
“[school name eg. Samsworth], Performing Arts and Literature College”

  • Another way to make a school look seriously preppy is to incorporate Latin into it somehow, if in the title or the timetable. Or the motto. I think Google Translate has a Latin translator.

  • I found this: http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/features/2011/americas-best-high-schools.html which is a list of the apparent best high schools in [name]America[/name], but bear in mind a lot of them are probably public schools. I also found a list of the best independent (so, private) schools in my country: The Top 100 Independent Schools at A-level | The Independent | The Independent Hopefully one or the other inspires you.

[name]Hope[/name] this helps.

@amberdaydream, it’s a high school (secondary school?). Not totally sure on how your school system works over there.

You’ve actually given me a lot to think about. The story is in its very early stage, so I hadn’t given a lot of thought to what the school- which is the main part of the story- specializes in. Stupid of me, but I got it now, so thanks. And thanks also for the suggestions and the articles, I bookmarked both of the links and I will be using them in the future
