Hello all! We are expecting a girl in [name_f]February[/name_f], and the only name that has given both DH and I butterflies is an ‘odd’ name.
We [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Zelda[/name_f]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] it. We are big gamer fans, and the game tie is just even better. DH grew up playing [name_u]Legend[/name_u] of [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] with his dad before his passing. The name has a special, secret nod and he loves it.
I like it that it is a normal, classical name, with some modern link-s. (Ha!)
We live in a small western [name_f]Alberta[/name_f] city. I worry the name will be shocking… [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I know there are kiddos running around with names like [name_m]Berlin[/name_m], Bunker, [name_u]West[/name_u], Anale (Yes, pronounced anal-ee) and others… But I still worry we will get told, Who do you think you are? We’re simple folk. Can we/our girl rock the name?!
I think [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is an awesome name, and see no reason you shouldn’t use it. [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is beautiful and I’m sure it would suit your daughter just fine!
I don’t see what’s so shocking about [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] considering [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m], [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] ([name_u]Robin[/name_u] [name_m]Williams[/name_m]’ daughter) and various other pop culture references. [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is not a made up name.
It seems like you want other people to love [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] as much as you do which completely natural. I just think that no matter what you choose be it [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] or ‘what simple folk are supposed to name their child’ there are always going to be people who won’t like it or have opinions. Embrace [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] as a name you love (‘It’s an unusual name and we love it.’), be patient with those who find it unusual they will get used to it. Again I don’t think it is a weird name at all. It’s legit and lovely and I’m proud to be my [name_f]Zelda[/name_f]'s mother.
