Hello
I need some opinions on a name for a girl,
I’ve wanted the name [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] forever, it’s a family name and I was thinking for a girl we could go with [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] which could be shortened to [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]. However my married name is [name_u]Francis[/name_u] . . .
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_u]Francis[/name_u] I personally think is ok but [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] [name_u]Francis[/name_u]? Can’t decided if it works or absolutely doesn’t work!
Ok first of all I love the name [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]! I do think think [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] [name_u]Francis[/name_u] sounds very sing-songy but unfortunately not in an overly cute way either. It could still work but I’m not sure I would. However since you love [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], I think you should be able to push that aside and use the name you love!
Unfortunately, I don’t think either [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] nor [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] worth with the surname [name_u]Francis[/name_u]. I do love both those names though!
Have you considered perhaps using it as a middle? For instance (I don’t know your naming style here, so just taking a wild guess) -
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_u]Francis[/name_u]
or
Francesca Juliet Francis
That way, you can nickname her [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]?
I don’t think it’s doable at all, sorry.
I agree with the previous posters, both [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] and [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] are too much with your surname.
What about:
[name_u]Jackie[/name_u] ([name_f]Jaqueline[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Sukey[/name_f] (as a full name or nickname to [name_f]Susannah[/name_f])
[name_f]Becky[/name_f] ([name_f]Rebecca[/name_f])
[name_f]Kiki[/name_f] ([name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Katerina[/name_f], [name_f]Katrina[/name_f], [name_f]Christiana[/name_f], [name_f]Carina[/name_f] etc)
[name_f]Frederica[/name_f] (it’s a bit of a stretch but it could have the nickname [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], if not [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] and [name_f]Fritzie[/name_f])
[name_f]Frida[/name_f]
[name_f]Freezia[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f] ([name_f]Florrie[/name_f]/[name_f]Flossie[/name_f])
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] (Feli/[name_f]Flossie[/name_f])
I don’t think it works. However, I think you can call the baby [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] no matter what the first name since [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] can be a nickname for [name_u]Francis[/name_u] and [name_u]Francis[/name_u] is her last name.
Would is be an option to give her a double barreled first name or give her a hyphenated last name? (Like your maiden name + your married name)
I think just having a little something to break it up would be enough to make it not overly repetitive.
I don’t think either [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] or [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] work with your surname, sorry.
It sounds like a poorly thought out character name in a comic or something.
It is pretty matchy, but it seems like you really love the name. I agree that it reminds me of a comic book or childrens book character, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing.
I also agree that you could call her [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] no matter what, because of your last name!
Personally, I’m not sure I would use it, but I think it could work. Maybe try and find a name you love just as much (or more!), and if you cant then you have [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] as a back up. I do really like the idea of using [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] as a nn for her last name though. Very cute!!
I’ve known several men who used a version of their last name as a nickname. I don’t see why you can’t call your little girl [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] based on that, regardless of what her first and middle names are.
I personally would not use [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] with [name_u]Francis[/name_u] as a last name. With a hyphenated last name I think it could work (though it sounds like [name_u]Francis[/name_u] is now your last name as well, so I’m not sure that would work for you)—the further the other name is from [name_u]Francis[/name_u] the better: [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_m]Wong[/name_m]-[name_u]Francis[/name_u] for example, works for me.
I totally sympathize, my favorite-from-childhood name (and for us nameberries that means something!) really didn’t work with my kid’s last name. Luckily I was able to find and fall in love with another name. I also think in your case that using frankie as a
nickname based on the last name would be a great solution!
Also, I think it’s worth noting that those of us on nameberry are probably harsher critics when it comes to names than the general public. So please take my opinion with that in mind.
I think that [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_u]Francis[/name_u] is too matchy, even for a middle. I like the idea of calling her [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] based off her last name.
Thanks everyone, it is a good idea [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] could be nicknamed after the surname. I think I agree it is a bit too matchy just hard to give it up with out thorough consideration!
I think [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_u]Francis[/name_u] is okay. It’s not like you’re naming her [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_u]Francis[/name_u]
