Name you Love

Is there a name you love but you would never give to your kid?

For me, it’s names I’ve used for my characters- specifically [name_m]Raphael[/name_m], [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], [name_f]Cressida[/name_f], [name_f]Leandra[/name_f], [name_f]Tamar[/name_f], [name_u]Cadence[/name_u] and [name_f]Kaia[/name_f]

[name_u]Gabriel[/name_u]! But [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u] [name_u]Angeles[/name_u] was the name of my sister’s cat who recently passed away. So. :woman_shrugging:

Caris just came to mind!! I absolutely adore the name Caris, but I don’t think I’d use it for a baby!

[name_f]Silence[/name_f]. The origins are too heavy to be used, unfortunately. I’m also quite fond of [name_f]Modesty[/name_f] but the implications are just so wrong. :sob:

Names I cannot describe any other way aside from being lovely but “extra” or over-the-top.

[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f], [name_m]Leonard[/name_m] / [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m], [name_m]Belisario[/name_m], [name_f]Raphaela[/name_f], [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f], etc fall under this category for me

I really like a lot of nick name style names that I don’t love the full names for. Like I love [name_u]Cass[/name_u] for a boy and Cress for a girl, but I don’t think they’re stand alone enough for me and I don’t love any full names so I’ll never use them :frowning:

it’s a family name and i love it dearly, but i don’t think it really fits with the rest of my names.

[name_f]Anna[/name_f], for sure. I’ve always loved this name but it carries an unfortunate family association. It’s one of those cases where I’d be hurt every single time I’d have to use her name, so I had to let the name go… [name_f]Lena[/name_f] is a similar case.

There’s also names such as [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] and [name_u]Larkin[/name_u], which are absolutely horrible with my surname.

Vera, but it doesn’t go with my maiden name, which I currently use. It might change if I ever get married, though.

[name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]. It’s one of my favourite boy names. [name_u]Perfect[/name_u] balance of soft and strong. But my niece is [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] (who goes by Bella) so it’s just too close, but I have put it in the middle spot for a future baby!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

I have a few…

Girls-

Aine-Only beautiful when said w/an Irish accent. Which I do not have.

Adeline-Adelyn is horribly popular in my area. And this is too close for comfort.

Josephine-I love it, but I don’t care for much for Josie/Joey/Jo, & I feel like they’d be har to avoid.

Lilia-My mom named her cat this.

Lilie-The cat usually goes by [name_f]Lili[/name_f].

Boys-

Charlie-Too many family members named this.

Colm-See [name_f]Aine[/name_f]. I love it, but it just sounds weird unless said by an Irish person.

Henry-Way too popular, unfortunately. So cute though. Especially w/the nn [name_m]Hank[/name_m].

Patrick-Too many family members named this. [name_f]My[/name_f] sweet little step nephew, & then dh’s unpleasant uncle.

Rafael-It’s so beautiful, but I just can’t figure out if it’s Raf-eye-el or Raf-ee-el or other.

Seamus-Another nephew.

William-Too many in the family already.
