Name
I think there’s a reason no one is naming their baby it. For example, on registers and the alike when the surname is put first, the poor girl is going to look like a road name. All I can think of is “what about Road? Or [name_m]Street[/name_m]?” Sorry. I don’t see the appeal, I think it should stay as a word.
I quite like it. I see the appeal but won’t use it myself. [name_u]Lane[/name_u] is ok so why not avenue? I see the the ‘av’ sound fits with current trends. It’s a bit daring and I don’t really love word names but I think that it works
Avenue seems, for some unknown reason, to be masculine.
It definitely conjures to mind a street or a busy intersection when I think of it, not a child. [name_m]Just[/name_m] because a word has elements of other popular baby names doesn’t mean that it’s fit to be one itself. It’s like asking why is nobody naming their kid “Emaciated” or “Empty” when names like [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_u]Emory[/name_u] are so popular? They both kind of have similar sounds…?
I feel like the starkest contrast between Avenue and [name_u]Lane[/name_u] like a PP mentioned is that [name_u]Lane[/name_u] can be a last name, which kind of breaks down the wall between it being just a word and an acceptable name. I can’t find any records of Avenue being used as a last name.
I think most word names work because they have a pretty or desirable meaning or imagery. Avenue, not so much. It does have a nice sound, but it doesn’t exactly have much in the way of imagery; I just think of pavement and infrastructure.
My thoughts are “trying too hard”
I know a baby Avenue, and I think it’s adorable! She goes by Avvie. It’s unusual for sure, but I think it works.
To be frank, I think Avenue sounds stupid as a given name.
