This is semi-related, but last year, my science teacher (he was AWFUL) pronounced Opaque like O-payg because he apparently didn’t know how to pronounce a Q like that and convinced himself it was a G. And I COULD care less that people say ‘I could care less’ instead of ‘I couldn’t care less’. (See what I did there? [name_m]Just[/name_m] to elucidate, I am using ‘I could care less’ the proper way, meaning I DO care. [name_m]Just[/name_m] wanted to make it known that I’m not being dumb

Why’s that wrong? Because the “ones” is obsolete and just “these” would mean the same thing?
On the “could care less” thing, yes, “couldn’t” makes more sense, but it has been around for so long they are both officially considered sayings now. (source) It always reminds me of “head over heels”, which also doesn’t make sense - head on the top and heels at the bottom is the normal state, if you want to say it’s all scrambled up it should be turned around. Yet no one says “heels over head”.

The word one means only one. So, it is completely wrong to say these ones . You should not say “I like these ones .” Or “I like those ones .” It is okay to say, “I like this one.” and “I like the red ones .”

I think the ‘cloyingly sweet’ thing is still fine because it’s like saying something is ‘rigidly still’- they mean the same thing but it just adds emphasis and description. But, of course, I could be wrong.

Oh yeah in kindergarten my teacher showed us the word ‘draw’ and a classmate was like “what? Why doesn’t it have an L? It’s drawl! Like, I’m drawling a pitcher!” (Note that she also pronounced Picture like pitcher
