Lilith, [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] and [name_f]Kaia[/name_f]. There are new Berries every day with all of those on their lists. [name_f]Every[/name_f]. [name_u]Day[/name_u]. I’ll check my unread new topics and there will be at least one “Favourites from my list. [name_f]Lilith[/name_f], [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], [name_f]Kaia[/name_f]” topic.
(bkgd: my aunt’s friend is having a baby soon, and my aunt brought up the possible names today)
Aunt: so the options are [name_u]Hayes[/name_u] or [name_u]Reed[/name_u].
Me: well, I read a book and a character named [name_u]Hayes[/name_u] was the first to die, and he was bratty and cocky…
Me: and then I read a book with a [name_u]Reid[/name_u], and he was really cool. How are we spelling [name_u]Reed[/name_u]? R-e-e-d? [name_u]Or[/name_u] R-e-i-d?
Aunt: uh…I don’t know how they’re spelling it.
Me: Well what’s the middle name going to be?
Aunt: uh…[name_u]Michael[/name_u].
Me: ooh! I read a book with a [name_u]Michael[/name_u] once and he was great
Me: * and I kinda wanted Book [name_u]Michael[/name_u] to be my boyfriend, but I’m not saying that out loud… *
Me: tell them to go with [name_u]Reid[/name_u].
Aunt: well…they both like [name_u]Hayes[/name_u] better.
Me: * seething with disappointment *
EDIT:
Aunt: there’s a third name option. Beau
Me: spelling? Bo, or Beau?
Aunt: Beau
Me: Nope. Serial killer in a book I read. I’m telling you, go with Reid.
Aunt: * whispers * Reid’s my favorite.
Me: You’re my favorite aunt.
Sometimes I do polls not to see which one’s the most popular, but if at least a percentage of people favor my favorite combo.
I saw some people considering it for its feminist side. I guess it can seem different from different perspectives, although it’s too dark for me no matter how feminist it is.
Finally found the answer for the thing I’ve been wondering for years
Now I can die peacefully
Me with girl names: Thinks of 50 new names to add to my list
Me with boy names: Thinks of 50 names to remove from my list
Like seriously, I have soo many girl combos and my boy list is pitiful.
bro that thread you quoted was from when i was 1 what in flip
Other people here: Asking for help naming actual children
Me: Asking for help naming stuffed animals
Me, barely a month ago: all I see looking at [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] is the first syllable and it ruins the name
Me now: I love [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]. What a great name. I don’t see a single downside.
(I don’t know what changed my mind but I’ve done a total 180 on [name_f]Astrid[/name_f])
Me with [name_f]Narcissa[/name_f]
You know you go on nameberry too much when you start dreaming about it
That’s happened to me before… and I haven’t even been on that long…
Me: Asking for help naming the imaginary people who live in my head
Literally me
Me on a CAF: ok um imma just pair the best names here ugh what are these choices um okay sure
After pressing reply and over-observing my reply: Wow this combo sounds/looks so good! I am a master, aren’t I?
Love how NB’s description of the category says “[name_f]Celebrity[/name_f] baby names from the wild – [name_u]Moroccan[/name_u] and [name_m]Mowgli[/name_m] – to the wonderful.” and [name_u]Moroccan[/name_u] has a baby sister named [name_u]Powerful[/name_u] [name_f]Queen[/name_f]. Now, that’s even wilder - oh sorry, I mean powerful.
So I follow the voiceover community closely, and there’s this one actress whose name pops out at me.
Hoàng (and her last name by extension) is derived from the character 黄, meaning “yellow”.
HER NAME IS LITERALLY “YELLOW YELLOW”.
I’ve done a lot of research on [name_f]Lilith[/name_f]! With the text that popularized [name_f]Lilith[/name_f]’s story as a demon who kills mothers and children (the Alphabet of [name_m]Ben[/name_m] Sira), there’s a lot of evidence to suggest that large parts of it are satirical and written to appeal to recent [name_u]Christian[/name_u] converts looking to hate on their Jewish ancestry. Thus, the part about [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] can be read as a way to mock [name_m]Adam[/name_m] for not being able to control his wife and a way to mock God because He had to send angels to catch [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] and couldn’t do it on His own. [name_m]Prior[/name_m] to this text, [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] was seen more as a seductress who tempted men, not a baby killer.
I’m also not religious so personally, the name feels more like a character than a historical figure like [name_m]Adolf[/name_m]. But I also believe that the history behind [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] seems to suggest that ancient men had to demonize such a figure to uphold their patriarchal society. She’s absolutely a feminist figure, in my opinion, and I’d use the name in a heartbeat.
