Nameberry memes (Part 1)

cannot browse the forums on mobile due to ads and frequent redirects to pages telling me I’ve won something

Seriously, y’all. I have never in my life seen a website with problems like this.

Me: creates lists using SSA data from 1971-1995
Posters (both on NB and various other sites): “too dated”
Me: sighs and rolls eyes

I always thought it ironic when people with names like Gwenllian [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f] Rosewater and [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m] [name_m]Lucifer[/name_m] [name_f]Lux[/name_f] in their signatures give you crap for your comparatively normal combos.

A name can’t be dated if no one else is using it for their kids though, I guess. :eyes:

this post isn’t singling out any particular [name_u]Berry[/name_u], just my observation

LOL thank you, I guess everyone has varying ideas on what’s dated/whether dated is good or bad, but I do find it odd if someone (on any site) is telling me [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] is too dated when they have vintage/Victorian style names in their signature - [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] makes me picture someone born in the early 1900s - not someone young or of any age, yet it’s “vintage”.

[name_m]Ah[/name_m] well, whatever floats their boat, I suppose!

school is out for the summer and suddenly a large number of people all join and all happen to be expecting girl/girl twins that are all due in the same month, what are the odds?

What people think my signature is: Names I want to give to my children or character

What my signature really is: Mostly names that I felt the need to “defend” from the unfair amount of hate they recieved

When you feel like you need to post a thread on nameberry for every question/idea you have in life

me: spends a long time updating my sig, something I haven’t done in a long time
me: adds names I’m not sure about and would like feedback on
me: has unreasonable anxiety about the Rate the PP’s [name_m]Sig[/name_m] forum because I feel like people hate my input on their names
me: doesn’t want to start my own thread about it because I don’t want to draw too much attention to myself
me: agressively posts in Best combo from PP’s [name_m]Sig[/name_m] instead, and hopes that people pick my new names
me: why am I like this?

Additionally:

me: puts combos including names from my favorite books in sig
Nameberry, the next day: blog post on names from books
me: looks over both shoulders how did they know? are they watching?

me: Naming your kid something from SciFi or fantasy is ridiculous and I can’t take these seriously

also me: [name_f]Kira[/name_f] and [name_f]Nerys[/name_f] are legit names from earth and I am going to use them!!11!one!

password for where I handle confidential data (aka work): an all-lower-case word will do
password for where I name imaginary children (aka here): EeEnh0n!!zZTwp?lj*Q(

(that’s not actually my real password, please calm down)

My friend: “What’s the big deal about names? A name is just a word you attach to a person.”
Me: “[name_f]Do[/name_f] you… hear yourself?”

Hahaha so true. This is me internally every time someone says something like this!

I’m really having trouble choosing between __________ and ___________.

Everyone gives their opinions and suggestions nicely until…

About the third page, someone has to make a rude and completely irrelevant comment.

Sigh.

[name_f]Every[/name_f] time someone calls a certain name trendy, but said name either:

a) Doesn’t rank or is very low ranked within the top 1000

b) Has been popular and commonly used since times immemorial

@sansavesper: hahaha! Nice! I thought this when the Nameberry FB page posted about the name [name_f]Ada[/name_f] being trendy. I guess some may consider it to be, but I definitely don’t see it that way. Which leads to…

Getting your feathers ruffled over terms like “trendy”, “popular”, “unisex”, and so on…when the regular population don’t even pay attention to such terms :stuck_out_tongue:
